  • Word For Today: Stand Tall Against The Giants Both Near and Far

    1 Samuel 17:26-29 Then David spoke to the men who stood by him, saying, "What shall be done for the man who kills this Philistine and takes away the reproach from Israel? For who is this uncircumcised Philistine, that he should defy the armies of the living God?" And the people answered him in this manner, saying, "So shall it be done for the man who kills him." Now Eliab his oldest brother heard when he spoke to the men; and Eliab's anger was aroused against David, and he said, "Why did you come down here? And with whom have you left those few sheep in the wilderness? I know your pride and the insolence of your heart, for you have come down to see the battle." And David said, "What have I done now? Is there not a cause?"
    David's faith and courage in volunteering to fight Goliath was an embarrassment to his big brother Eliab, an officer in King Saul's army. I imagine his thinking went something like this; “If my little brother wins everybody will ask, 'How come you didn't go out and fight him?'” The Bible records that Eliab “burned with anger at David and asked, 'Why have you come down here? And with whom did you leave those few sheep in the desert? I know how conceited you are and how wicked your heart is...'” These are devastating words from an older brother. Before David could defeat Goliath he first had to overcome the attitudes, accusations and words, of those close around him.
    The defeat of Goliath had massive implications for Israel and for the Lord. Satan had staked a great deal on Goliath's terrifying power. So wherever the enemy had opportunity in the sinful attitudes of David's friends and family he maximized them, realizing that David truly had the anointing of God to turn the tide of battle. And God allowed David to be tested by his own closest kin.
    If there is a true Goliath in your life and you are appointed to slay him be assured you will face similar tests from those close by. When you make decisions to step out and follow God it will put pressure on others to do the same. Their shame and lack of faith will move them to attack, belittle and criticize you. It will come from among those closest to you, especially if your calling sets you apart!
    Be careful around those who say, “I knew you when...” in an attempt to label, libel, or limit you – much like David's brother Eliab tried to hinder him. David was empowered by the Lord to slay Goliath – if you have that same Spirit and calling then humbly step aside and say, "What have I done now? Isn't there a real job to be done?" Then go ahead, and do it.

    China’s Communist Party goes way of Qing Dynasty as debt hits limit
    Nobody rings a bell at the top of the credit supercycle, to misuse an old adage. Except that this time somebody very powerful in China has done exactly that.
    China watchers are still struggling to identify the author of an electrifying article in the People’s Daily that declares war on debt and the “fantasy” of perpetual stimulus.
    Written in a imperial tone, it commands China to break its addiction to credit and take its punishment before matters spiral out of control. If that means bankruptcies must run their course, so be it.
    The 11,000 character text – citing an “authoritative person” – was given star-billing on the front page. It described leverage as the “original sin” from which all other risks emanate, with debt “growing like a tree in the air”.
    It warned of a “systemic financial crisis” and demanded a halt to the “old methods” of reflexive stimulus every time growth falters. “It is neither possible nor necessary to force economic growing by levering up,” it said.
    Most think the author was either President Xi Jinping himself, or his right-hand man Liu He – who handles daily operations for the ‘Leading Group’, China’s version of the White House National Economic Council.
    Capital Economics says budgeted funds must be disbursed by the end of this quarter under new finance ministry rules, implying another $310bn of bonds by late June.

    “We reviewed again the position concerning France’s initiative to hold a ministerial-level meeting in Paris to relaunch the Middle East peace process,” Ayrault told reporters.
    This would also provide the opportunity “for Israel and the Palestinians to resume [talks] on the basis of a two-state solution,” he said.
    “We are in a crisis situation and every day the situation on the ground gets worse,” he added.
    Kerry said separately he would attend the peace conference, with Washington playing a key role in peace efforts over the years due to its special relationship with Israel.

    BEECH GROVE, Ind. – Many residents of Beech Grove awoke early Tuesday morning to what they say sounded like gunshots and explosions.
    According to police officials, this activity was part of a scheduled military training exercise near the old St. Francis Hospital.
    Beech Grove residents say they saw helicopters flying low over the area and heard what sounded like several loud explosions.
    Police say this was training exercise was scheduled and there is no threat to anyone in the area.
    Many viewers were upset about the drills, saying they didn't have any advance warning and were alarmed by the loud noises. Some people said they received a knock on the door letting them know what was going on.

    An NBC News report that promotes the microchipping of children asserts that it will happen “sooner rather than later” and that Americans will eventually accept the process as something just as normal as the barcode.
    It goes on to highlight mother of three Steffany Rodroguez-Neely, who talks about how she briefly lost her daughter after she hid behind a rack of clothes, bringing to the fore, “every parent’s nightmare when you can’t find your child.”
    “If it’ll save my kid, there’s no stuff that’s too extreme,” says Rodroguez-Neely. “Micro-chipping would be an extra layer of protection, if something bad does happen.”
    Rodroguez-Neely goes on to explain how she has braved skepticism from members of the local Tampa Bay Moms Group, people like Kerri Levey, who are wary about implanting their own children.
    “You’re putting a battery in your kid, you’re putting a chip in your kid. And, where does it stop,” asks Levey. “Where? It’s going too far. This is a child we’re talking about.”
    “If a small chip the size of a grain of rice could have prevented a tragedy, I think most parents would have said, I think I would have done it,” responds Rodroguez-Neely.

  • Heads Up: Massive "Major Disaster" Miltary Drill Ongoing in the D.C. Area

    I live in Southern Maryland about 20mins east of D.C, close to Andrews Air Force Base and on the Chesapeake Bay. This time of year it is not strange to have military fly overs or even the coast guard helicopters doing training.
    However, about 5 days ago I noticed we have had helicopters flying overhead on and off all day and night. Although we sometimes will see this maybe one or two days out of the year this was above and beyond anything normal. We have lived here for the last 7 years. The helicopters and planes that have been going overhead have not all been what we normally see. Some are unmarked, others are military, and most of them are either staying above the clouds or something because you can't even see them to identify them.
    Others have also confirmed that they have never seen this type of activity so many days in a row for so many hours. I heard that an inside source in the army said this week and next week, for the first time ever, they are doing training to prepare for major disasters. This is being done by all law enforcement and military agencies within a specific radius of D.C. (I think it was 100 miles). This week is police week and therefore you do see some training as normal however this is much different. They are planning for a major disaster in the D.C. area. This is not normal yearly training. This two week long exercise has never been done before and definitely not at this scale.
