Recruiting. Do I have to recruit people? How do I find business builders like me? What does this “love is not self-seeking” concept have to do with recruiting?

I initially thought that the opposite of self-seeking is others-seeking. First, let’s consider that the opposite might be God-seeking. And how does this perspective of being God-seeking impact our actions and activity towards customers and team members? Let’s talk about it.

In light of this week’s topic on Love is not self-seeking, I want to talk about prayer as a way of being God-seeking.  You’ll hear a slice of my story today and how each of our stories can impact the way that we seek God.

Yesterday I mentioned that Ancient Israel was a shame-honor culture.  And what that means is that the name and honor of your family nam were closely tied with your reputation.  And bringing honor to your family was of the utmost importance.  

So, when Jesus enters the scene and he is touching lepers, and talking with women, and letting children come to him, he is radically going against the culture and bringing dishonor to himself for the sake of love.  Let’s talk for a few minutes today about what that means for us.  And how that can radically change everything.

We have been talking about how love does not dishonor this week.  And this one would have been very impactful in the culture in which it was written because Ancient Israel would have been considered a “shame-honor culture” where honor was of utmost importance and any cause of shame would have been a disgrace both to a person personally, and also their family. 

So, today we are going to talk about shame.  The root of it, and why it’s so easily felt by all of us.  And tomorrow we will talk about the depths God’s love for us in the way he honored us by taking on our shame though the cross.

Do you see someone who speaks in haste? There is more hope for a fool than for him.

I feel like most of the time, I do a pretty good job of being kind. But that could be the pride speaking so consider the source. There are also times, where I totally stink. More often than not, the culprit can be avoided. Let’s talk about how multi-tasking and dishonoring others.

Romans 12:10

Be devoted to one another in love. Honor one another above yourselves.

If love does not dishonor, what it does is honor others. This does not come naturally. We need to actively honor others. Take a listen to a few ideas on how to do this as a network marketing leader.

In reading up on this one, I found an explanation that said what this means is to not behave in a way that brings others shame. Shame is tricky, and I know you would never do it on purpose. I have noticed one pervasive industry belief that has led to a ton of shame, so let’s talk about being aware of this today.

This podcast originally aired on Ash Wednesday of 2017.  And as many of you may know, that is the beginning of the season of lent—a forty-day period of preparation for the celebration of Easter.  This season invites us to take an honest look at our lives, to address issues of sin that interfere with our relationship with God and others, and to receive afresh God’s grace and mercy so we can live renewed lives.
