During the Y98 halftime show, we turned our focus towards CITY’s “Tackle the Struggle” efforts with Mental Health Awareness. Jen Siess visited with Dr. Greg Young, Director of Mental Performance for CITY. Dr. Young shared more about his work with the team, how the the team can adjust in times of struggle, using mental skills to improve performance, and some real-life examples of how everyone can improve their mental well-being on a regular basis.

During the Y98 pregame show, Jen Siess talked with CITY Midfielder, and recent fill-in team captain, Marcel Hartel ahead of CITY’s away match against Minnesota United. Hartel talked about the collective disappointment of the team not closing their original 2-0 lead over Sporting KC at home, his time as captain filling in for a recently returned Roman Burki, adjusting to non-preferred positions, the warming STL weather, and his hopes for back-to-back wins against the Loons.

During the Y98 pregame show, Dale Schilly caught up with Coach Olof Mellberg to get his thoughts on CITY away match against Minnesota United. Coach Mellberg talked about the team’s disappointment with the home rivalry match draw with Sporting KC, some of the real-time perspective he was able to get from viewing the match on the side due to his yellow card suspension, the team’s congested schedule, injuries, and his desire for more players to be fit for a full 90 minutes.

Kenny brought a lot of energy talking about his excitement with the revitalization of St. Louis Downtown West by CITY and Energizer Park, memories from his racing days, sports in St. Louis, and what he’s up to now with racing and life.

Joyner talked about his impressive growth with both the first and second team this season, how he balances it all, his start on the competitive side of the game as a youth, Roman Burki as a mentor, and his hopes for continued growth as a pro.

During the Y98 pregame show, Jen Siess chatted with CITY Defender, Joey Zalinsky, ahead of CITY’s re-match against newest MLS expansion club, San Diego FC. Zalinsky talked about his first team appearance (along with a goal), his start in the game as a youth, the MLS Super Draft experience, and his mental approach to working his way through each level continuing to grind for more minutes as a pro.

Mary talked about her excitement about the CITY experience, playing over 30 years ago with little opportunity and support for girls and women in soccer, being honored by the St. Louis Soccer Hall of Fame in February, and the impact of the growth of the women’s game throughout the world.
