It’s all soccer on this CITY Spotlight hosted by Jen Siess on KMOX. First, hear thoughts from David Critchley (recently confirmed as “Interim” coach for the remainder of the season) on the team’s disappointing home loss to Orlando earlier in the week. CITY Academy Director and Y98 Game Analyst, Dale Schilly, visited to talk about the team trying to strike a balance between an aggressive attack, while limiting goal concession. Jen also talked with Alex Langer, CITY Director of Goalkeeping, about his recent naturalization as a US Citizen and work with the team goalkeepers and set pieces. Mr. Soccer, Bill McDermott, wrapped up the busy hour with his thoughts on the FIFA Club World Cup.

This game, St. Louis CITY celebrated the 75th anniversary of what has been called the greatest upset in FIFA World Cup history when, on June 29, 1950, the US beat the global soccer powerhouse England at a match in Brazil, which has since become known as the “Miracle on Grass”. During the Y98 halftime show, Jen Siess visited with Ty Keough, former USMNT player and son of Harry Keough of that historic team. Ty talked about the impact of that win, favorite memories, and reasons behind St. Louis’ unique contributions to The Beautiful Game starting with that team’s 5 STL players: Frank “Pee Wee” Wallace, Gino Pariani, Charles Colombo, Frank Borghi, and Harry Keough.

During the Y98 pregame show, Jen Siess talked about thoughts from CITY Defender, Jay Reid, from earlier in the week ahead of ahead of their home midweek match against Eastern Conference Orlando City. Reid talked about the team working on defensive resiliency in tough moments, limiting mistakes, and working on preventing goals after scoring. Jay also addressed the “new vibes” of the team spirit, getting results, and the mentorship he’s received from Jannes Horn.

During the Y98 pregame show, Dale Schilly caught up with CITY’s Interim Head Coach, David Critchley, ahead of their home midweek match against Eastern Conference Orlando City. Critch talked about rest during the team’s 10-day break, competition back in training, Klauss’ first hat trick for the club, players returning to health/fitness, and continuing to improve the team’s control in the attack.

During the Y98 halftime show, CEO of MERS Goodwill, Mark Arens, listed the broadcast booth to talk with Jen Siess during the match where CITY and MERS Goodwill teamed up to collect items around the stadium. Arens talked about the donation drive partnership with CITY, along with the MERS Goodwill deeper mission of “changing lives through the power of work” by creating career opportunities for adults.

During the Y98 pregame show, Jen Siess talked with CITY 2 Forward, Brendan McSorley, ahead of CITY's home midday match against the LA Galaxy. McSorley talked about following his dad and brother into the game, the soccer environments that have shaped him, his draft experience, gratitude for his parents’ role in his growth in the game, and his hopes for more possibilities with the first team.

During the Y98 pregame show, Dale Schilly caught up with CITY’s Caretaker Head Coach, David Critchley, ahead of their home midday match against the LA Galaxy. Critch talked about the progress he's made with the team in just two games with a focus on attacking data, higher possession, adjusting game tempo to sustain high pressure, and using Goalkeeper Roman Burki more in the buildout.

Zivin talked about his very first CITY broadcast at the team’s debut home opener, some favorite memories as a soccer fan and broadcaster, plus his belief that St. Louis could still find its MLS team in the playoffs with belief and an aggressive attack that gets back to the team’s DNA.
