Adam gave an update on the start of the program’s spring season with new developments such as all-girls’ teams and weekend games in the program’s continued mission of providing no-cost and accessible soccer to kids throughout the region. He also gave an update on the program’s upcoming activities with the World Cup and CITY SC’s “Summer of Soccer”, working with “Soccer Without Borders”, and how people can get involved.

During the Y98 pregame show, Dale Schilly caught up with CITY Head Coach, Yoann Damet, ahead of the team’s last of their 3-game road stretch out to the West Coast to face the Seattle Sounders. Coach Damet talked about lessons learned for their first re-match of the season and how both teams are very different from that first match at Energizer Park in March. Damet also talked about the team’s desire to go deep into the Open Cup, plus his pride in the team’s character in performance, continuing to play within their identity no matter the result in any minute of the match.

During the KMOX halftime show, Jen Siess visited in-booth with Jeff Robben who was the Goalkeeper for the Busch Seniors team that won the Open Cup Championship in 1988. Jeff talked about his experience as a young amateur player pitching up against former pros on that last St. Louis team to win the oldest ongoing national cup competition in American soccer. He also shared thoughts about his continuing journey in The Beautiful Game and why St. Louis is the true Soccer Capital with the most Open Cup wins of any city in the US.

He had a visit with Dave Lange, author of "St. Louis Soccer: An Illustrated Timeline”, “Year One: St. Louis CITY SC”, and “Soccer in St. Louis: A History of the Game in American’s First Soccer Capital”. Matt and Dave discuss the upcoming World Cup, and what the previous one that was held in America did for soccer in the country. He also discusses how far the sport has come in his lifetime, and the growth potential it has over the coming years.

During the Y98 pregame show, Jen Siess visited with CITY Forward, Brendan McSorley, ahead of the team’s away match at FC Dallas. McSorley talked about his game-changing goal in stoppage time against NYCFC to level the score and get the team a point on the road. He also shared how he handles his positioning as a “fox in the box", entering the game at important moments, and the consistent gratitude he has for his supportive family and friends on his soccer journey as a professional.

This conversation occurred a few days before the fan favorite fell victim to a non-contact ACL injury rendering the rest of his season as TBD. Though happy the team was recently rewarded with the result at home against New England, Damet and staff continue to stress improvement in key areas - defensive connectivity and compactness, improvements on both sides of the ball, and more efficient decision-making. Damet also talked about how, for him, there is no creativity without structure, integrating players returning from injury, and keeping team identity whether playing home or away.

During the Y98 halftime show, Jen Siess visited in-booth with Ruth Harker, St. Louis Soccer Hall of Famer and original member of the inaugural US Women’s National Team in 1985. The 85-er talked about her experience in The Beautiful Game alongside 16 other teammates who did it all with very few resources. Ruth also talked about her recent visit to Seattle to honor the USWNT GOAT., her teammate and friend, Michelle Akers, who accomplished so much and continues to advocate for girls and women in the game. Finally, Jen and Ruth discussed the newest change in the game with FIFA mandating that all women’s teams have at least one woman coach on the bench in the efforts to accelerate parity in the game.
