The Clarke County school system scored well in the accreditation assessment recently completed by Cognia, Inc., the successor to the longtime SACS accreditation program. Shannon Odom, of the Clarke County Board of Education’s central office, said the system is reviewed for accreditation every six years. She presented the findings at the March 19 board meeting in Grove Hill. The system scored well compared on individual components of Cognia criteria with a final score of 299. Pine Hill Police Chief Nikisha Gailes advised on March 12, an anonymous tip from Ohio led to the arrest of Gary Kendall Brown in Cleveland Heights, Ohio. A tipster learned that Brown was wanted in Alabama from a CrimeStoppers’ media release and notified Pine Hill Police Department. Pine Hill PD notified the U.S. Marshals, who contacted authorities in Ohio. On March 18, at approximately 6:30 a.m., Brown was located and arrested during a traffic stop in Cleveland, Ohio, where he is awaiting extradition to Alabama. On March 22, we gathered at Nicholsville Baptist Church in memory and honor of Billy Thomas Black Sr. Bill went to be with Jesus on March 4. The service was led by the Rev. Ralph Smith of Grand Bay, a family member. Fittingly, the memorial message was brought by the Rev. As the SS United States made its way to Mobile recently, one local woman took a trip down memory lane.
