Can you even believe that this week marks one year since we officially went into lockdown here in the UK and were all told to stay at home, which of course meant working from home too.

For some people this was something that they were already fairly used too and for some people it was a brand new experience. And despite working from home for 3 years prior to lockdown, I've still found the past year incredibly tough.

So as we hit this milestone I thought I would take some time to reflect on the past twelve months and the lessons I've learn from working from home during a global pandemic!

I apologise in advance for any wanderlust caused by this episode as today I'm welcoming Freelance Marketing Consultant Amy Nicholson to the podcast to chat all about the realities of remote working and whether it truly lives up to the rather idealistic picture that's often painted on social media!

Amy was inspired to set up her freelance marketing business during a three year stay in Bali and since then has taken her work on the road on a variety of trips around the world.

Remote working is something that many people aspire to be able to do and the freedom associated with it is often the reason so many business owners take the leap into the world of self-employment so I wanted to dig into what it's REALLY like to travel to be a remote worker!

In the episode I chat to Amy all about some of the realities of remote working and how it's not always what it's cracked up to be, how the tight knit nature of the van life community can help with loneliness whilst solo travelling as well as how Covid impacted her travel plans and ultimately helped her to readdress what she really wanted in life!

We also dive into Amy's current project which is renovating her second van and how that will bring with it so much more room for spontaneity with her travel plans!

I absolutely loved hearing more about Amy's journey so far and now I'm dreaming of being able to pack my bags and get away for the summer!

Today I'm welcoming Amanda Baker, founder and creator of 5 Stories, a creative agency who believe that the secret to a brand's success is through the stories it tells.

5 Stories, isn't Amanda's first business - in fact it's her fourth and her business journey so far has been anything but smooth sailing!

After founding her first business at 23 Amanda went on to raise £150k in investment, unfortunately things didn't go to plan but she learnt a LOT from the process.

The resilience and drive that Amanda has shown throughout her business journey so far is incredibly inspiring and just shows what can be achieved through determination and when you truly connect to your why.

In the episode I chat to Amanda all about how she picked herself up during the difficult times and kept going in pursuit of building her dream business, why hustle culture meant loosing focus on what really mattered to her as well as how compassion and empathy can make us all better business owners.
