This episode featured, Stephanie Jack 卢恩典 a Singaporean-Chinese and Australian actor, singer, and writer who was recognized in 2022 as one of the 40-Under-40 Most Influential Asian Australians. With a diverse background, she trained and worked in various countries, graduating top of her B.A Drama cohort at the University of Bristol and completing an M.F.A in Acting at Harvard's ART/MXAT Institute. Stephanie, a multidisciplinary artist, is currently developing a play inspired by her time in China, titled Mixed Feelings, and has been actively involved in video installations exploring cultural hybridity and multiracial code-switching. Stephanie Jack discussed her experience being a multiracial actress, the manner in which she was perceived across the many countries she has lived in as well as the relationship between racial and cultural identities, specifically how to honor both aspects of one's identity.

We are so excited to have had to opportunity to collaborate with Mixed Asian Media and record a podcast with Alex Chester-Iwata. Alex was named as one of 2022's top 50 Unsung Heroes at Asian Hustle Network’s Uplifted Conference. Alex graduated with Honors in May 2021 with her BA through St. Mary’s LEAP Program. She is the first person from LEAP to receive the Dean's Award for academic excellence and community engagement and is now part of LEAP’s Advisory Board. Alex, also the Editor-in-Chief of Mixed Asian Media shared her story growing up in the entertainment industry as one of the only mixed-race Asian Americans. She discussed how this experience shaped her passion for advocacy as well as the work she does through Mixed Asian Media.

Aisha Fukushima is a performance lecturer, justice strategist, singer/songwriter, and RAPtivist. She founded RAPtivism, a hip hop project spanning 20 countries and four continents, amplifying universal efforts for freedom and justice. Her work with ‘RAPtivism’ has been featured on Oprah Magazine and TEDx, to name only a few organizations. Additionally, she has spoken with the President of Estonia about the power of music to create change. She has also presented at venues such as Stanford University, Yale Law School, Duke University and the National Conference On Race and Ethnicity (NCORE). In keynotes she links themes such as hip hop, global citizenship, empowerment, feminism and cultural activism through storytelling as well as live musical performance.

Dr. Jill Falcon Ramaker is a faculty member at Montana State University specializing in Indigenous food systems and land practices. She is also a Program Director of the Buffalo Nations Food System Initiative at Montana State University and also works closely with the nonprofit Montana Indigenous Food Sovereignty Initiative. She is a member of the Midewin society and is an inspiring advocate. In this episode, Dr. Ramaker discusses her own multiracial and multicultural background. Additionally, she discusses the history of mixed indigenous communities and shares her opinion on blood quantum. Dr. Ramaker also discusses the future of land sovereignty in indigenous communities and multiculturalism.

Episode 06 with Andrew Jolivétte discusses the intersections and divisions between marginalized communities as well as ways to support one another. Specifically, Dr. Jolivette talks about the connections between the LGBTQ+ community and the multiracial community. Conversations about education in the context of school systems were also included to highlight ways in which early education could help create a more inclusive environment for all.

On the 55th anniversary of Loving Day, enjoy our podcast segment discussing the day's history and its importance to the multiracial community. Loving Day marks the annual celebration of the 1967 Loving v. Virginia Supreme Court decision that legalized interracial marriage. Happy Loving Day from The Color of Us; Love is Love.

EP. 04 of our podcast is now out featuring Dr. Shonda BuchananDr. Buchanan is an award-winning poet and educator. Dr. Buchanan is the author of five books, including the award-winning memoir, Black Indian, which won the 2020 Indie New Generation Book Award and was chosen by PBS NewsHour as a Top 20 Books to Read to Learn About Institutional Racism. An educator and a journalist for over 25 years, Dr. Buchanan has freelanced for the Los Angeles Times, the LA Weekly, AWP’s The Writer’s Chronicle, Indian Country Today, and The International Review of African American Art. She is also a senior lecturer at Loyola Marymount University. In this episode, titled "Generations & Legacies," Dr. Buchanan discusses the history of multiracialism in the United States and how this past shapes the future.

EP. 03 of our podcast titled "Changing the Narrative" is now out! In this episode, Dr. Jasmine Mitchell was interviewed on topics encompassing the media's representation of multiracialism and the intersection between gender and multiracialism. Dr. Jasmine Mitchell is an outspoken figure in the multiracial community. She is a PhD in American Studies from the University of Minnesota and a BA in American Studies from Williams College. She is also an Associate Professor of American Studies and Media Studies at the State University of New York-Old Westbury where her scholarly specialities include race and gender representation in popular culture, mixed-race, African-Americans and Afro-Brazilians, Black feminisms, and race and sports. In addition, she is also a published author of books examining contemporary media representations of mixed-black women in the United States and Brazil. Her scholarly insight is highlighted throughout this podcast as we delve into topics such as structural and systemic racism and the impact it has particularly on multiracialism.

In this episode, Rudy Guevarra Jr. was interviewed on topics exploring multiracial communities.Mr. Guevarra Jr. is a leader in the multiracial community and the president of the executive community of the Critical Mixed Race Studies conference. He is also an Associate Professor of Asian Pacific American Studies in the School of Social Transformation at Arizona State University with research and teaching interests encompassing Comparative Ethnic Studies, Pacific Islander and Asian American Studies as well as Race and Ethnic Relations. He is the author of Becoming Mexipino: Multiethnic Identities and Communities in San Diego and co-editor of Transnational Crossroads: Remapping the Americas and the Pacific. His forthcoming publications include Aloha Compadre: Latina/os in Hawaiʻi, Red and Yellow: Black and Brown: Decentering Whiteness in Mixed Race Studies and Beyond Ethnicity: New Politics of Race in Hawai’i. He has also published articles in the Journal of Asian American Studies, the Journal of San Diego History, and the Asian American Literary Review.In this episode, titled This or That, Mr. Guevarra Jr. talks about the categorization of multiracial individuals as monoracial and the struggles of growing up being told to choose "this or that."
