Zander Tsadwa is an Ethiopian-American and a cultural entrepreneur, which in some ways is a snazzy way of saying he’s a man of the culture. Zander is also the author of Facing a Bottle of Henny, A college coming of age tale.

Appropriately, Zander is the Founder and one of the many talented writers of Across The Culture, an online blog that covers everthing culture --politics, sports, music, entertainment. You name it, they got it.

I talked to Zander over the summer. We discussed cultural entrepreneurship, black and African masculinity, and how he became a man of the culture. We also got into a fun conversation about YouTube comedians and Donald Glover’s “Atlanta.”

One of my favorite new podcasts of the last year has been the Ask A Guy Podcast. If you haven’t heard of the Ask A Guy, they’re five black podcasters from the Twin Cities, who, week-by-week, debate some of the most polarizing relationship questions.

This may seem like your typical relationship show, but here’s the catch—there’s only one male host. The sole brother of the podcast, Jawon, bears the challenge of providing a nuanced male perspective to the conversation

Sadly, the cast of Ask A Guy have amicably split and decided to focus on their own professional and creative goals. In September, I interviewed Ask A Guy for 89.3, The Current. Our conversation was never published, so I'd like to take this time to offer my tribute to a group that was changing the podcast landscape.

Kaelie Lund and I are somewhat unlikely friends, yet maybe it was destined to happen. While attended school at Carleton College, she was a student at our cross-town rival, St. Olaf.

When we graduated, I moved back to the cities and she accepted a gig working in admissions for Carleton, which is actually how we met. Now, not only do we have a budding friendship, Kaelie is also helping to grow the Maintainin' podcast.
