To kick start this new era Corrina & I decided to watch Roald Dahl's Matilda The Musical on Netflix, so let's dive into our review.

This week Jamie is joined by colour commentator Blake Robinson to review two very different films, each of which explores a dark time in history. 

First up is Will Smith's Apple TV+ exclusive, Emancipation.

Telling the triumphant story of Peter (Will Smith), a man who escapes from slavery, relying on his wits, unwavering faith and deep love for his family to evade cold-blooded hunters and the unforgiving swamps of Louisiana on his quest for freedom. The film is inspired by the 1863 photos of “Whipped Peter,” taken during a Union Army medical examination, that first appeared in Harper’s Weekly. One image, known as “The Scourged Back,” which shows Peter’s bare back mutilated by a whipping delivered by his enslavers, ultimately contributed to growing public opposition to slavery.

Following that we're going to return to the world of Pinocchio with a review of Guillermo del Toro's Pinocchio on Netflix.

Oscar-winning filmmaker Guillermo del Toro reinvents the classic story of Pinocchio, a wooden puppet brought to life, in this stunning stop-motion musical tale.
