The wisest man in history, King Solomon, once said that humans become like the company we keep. Put another way, "We are the sum total of the five people we spend most of our time with." Now, parents are defensively aware of any stranger who might try to befriend their son or daughter, but what if the company kids keep is virtual, online, invisible to the eye? Does it still have power? Most definitely. In fact, media's ubiquitous presence is altering our behaviors, changing our families, and radically transforming our culture. As former MIT dean Lester Thurow said, "Values are not, and will not be, inculcated by the family, the church, or other social institutions in either the present or the future. They are and will be, inculcated by the visual and electronic media." What can we do to combat this full-scale inculcation? Join Dr. Lisa Dunne as we learn how and when to pull the plug, to press the off button, and to find ways to turn down the volume on mainstream media's instant influencer status.
