Mike and Mike have been talking about it for a while, and now it's finally here - we're kicking off our Cage Catchup episodes this week! We'll be catching up with the movies we've missed since Season 1 of this podcast wrapped up, and this week that means we're starting with LOVE, ANTOSHA, a documentary about the late actor Anton Yelchin, in which Cage serves as the narrator, reading several of Yelchin's writings, journal entries, and letters. It's a fascinating portrait of an extraordinary person gone too soon, and an incredible look at acting as a craft to obsess over.
Next week, we're beginning a break from Goldblum to catch up with the actor who was the original subject of this podcast: Nicolas Cage! We'll be watching everything he's made from 2019 to the present day, so we thought it was time to look back and get a refresher on Cage's career. This is a rerun of our big finale episode from when we finished our Nicolas Cage season of The Complete Works, for those who want to listen again or for any new fans that need a Cage Crash Course. We'll return with new episodes next week starting with the 2019 documentary film LOVE, ANTOSHA.
It's our last Goldblum episode before taking a brief hiatus! It's episode 50, it's Goldblum's last movie of the decade, and he's in it for about 10 seconds... plus, a bunch of other major stars like Will Smith, Matthew McConaughey, John Travolta, Glenn Close, Laurence Fishburne, Angie Everhart and a lot more show up, peppered throughout Adam Rifkin's mockumentary showbiz satire, WELCOME TO HOLLYWOOD!
Goldblum will be back in a couple of months, but keep an eye on this feed in the meantime, as we catch up on the Nicolas Cage movies we've missed since we finished the first season of this podcast!
We take you back to the pre-SHREK days of DreamWorks Animation - when the studio didn't have much of an identity and were still figuring themselves out. And while they were doing that, they almost accidentally developed one of the best animated films of the '90s. Goldblum's barely in this one, but he does appear, which gives us an excuse to talk about THE PRINCE OF EGYPT!
Once upon a time, we almost chose to do this season of The Complete Works on Eddie Murphy instead of Jeff Goldblum... and now, their paths cross in this box office bomb that Murphy has called "horrendous" on multiple occasions. Is it as bad as Murphy seems to think it is? Does Goldblum get at least one decent physical comedy moment? Do we get to bust out our Robert Loggia impression once again? Find out as we dive deep on 1998's HOLY MAN!
We've finally reached a Mike D favorite, and arguably the peak of Jeff Goldblum's Hollywood stardom - the sequel to the biggest movie ever at the time doesn't hold the greatest reputation, but is there something worthwhile here? We talk Goldblum's Ian Malcolm taking center stage in Steven Spielberg's THE LOST WORLD: JURASSIC PARK!
Jeff Goldblum stars in a movie that Siskel and Ebert called the worst film of 1996! Is it really THAT bad though? We have some thoughts as we discuss Goldblum along with this insane ensemble which includes Richard Dreyfuss, Diane Lane, Ellen Barkin, Gabriel Byrne, Kyle MacLachlan, and Burt Reynolds! Please, join us on the other side of the cosmos...
Did you know Jeff Goldblum has just one Oscar nomination, and it's NOT for acting? Actually, it's for directing LITTLE SURPRISES, a short film he made in the mid-90s which is also his only directing credit! It stars Kelly Preston, Mark Pellegrino, Rod Steiger, Julie Harris and more, and now we're talking about it!
TODAY, WE CELEBRATE OUR INDEPENDENCE DAY PODCAST! For a brief period, Jeff Goldblum was a major part of the two highest-grossing films of all time: JURASSIC PARK, and the movie we're talking about today, Roland Emmerich's 1996 alien invasion disaster movie, INDEPENDENCE DAY! We talk Goldblum's role in the film, the rise of Will Smith, and how this movie represented a turning point for Hollywood blockbusters!
We're back for 2021, and this week we're talking Jeff Goldblum's role in a sports comedy with a fascinating backstory. Goldblum co-stars with Samuel L. Jackson, Damon Wayans, Jon Lovitz, Cheech Marin, Peter Berg and more in a movie directed by HOUSE PARTY's Reginald Hudlin and written by Tony Hendra (National Lampoon) and Ron Shelton (BULL DURHAM) - it's time to talk THE GREAT WHITE HYPE!
