In this episode, we're joined by Megan Zuzevich, an EMDR Therapist who specializes in PTSD. EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is used to help folks unleash their greatest potential by releasing the symptoms and distress that accompany traumatic memories.
We get Megan's insight on what trauma is and how it's stored in the body (it's so much more than you think!), our brain's own ability to heal, the importance of inner child work, how to create a visual "safe space", the importance of being genuinely comfortable with your therapist, the mind-body connection, and how our bodies want to be safe & healthy and are always working to do that whether we recognize it or not.
She leaves us with a few methods to help ground us during stressful events -- which includes the 5 4 3 2 1 technique (which we hilariously walk through) & simple ways to keep general maintenance going for your overall well-being, as it's all connected.
Although we’ve just scratched the service of EMDR, Megan beautifully articulated the importance of this therapy and how it can work harmoniously with a body that is on a journey towards healing. There's a lot of knowledge & wisdom in this episode... hope you came hungry!
