  • 019: Yes, You CAN Take Down Time

It’s holiday season time and you’re trying to figure out how to take time away from your business so you can spend the holidays unplugging. But you have too many projects to do and not enough time to get them all done.

I will raise my hand high and tell you that I’ve been there too. But a few years ago, I cracked the code on how to take time away from my business--and took a full two week vacation from my sole 1:1 service-based business. It took a lot of work and planning on my part but I was able to pull it off. Fast forward to this summer when I wasn’t so lucky.

Tune in to this week’s episode of the Stories in Small Business podcast and learn from my experiences--and failures--in enjoying a work-free vacation. Because every single one of you deserves to have time away from your business!

And that guide to batching your content so you can be one step closer to unplugging? Grab it right here!

  • 018: Using In-Person Events to Connect and Grow

It took me so long to attend my first in-person event and I was immediately hooked, even as an introvert. They’re such a powerful way to connect with others and build deeper connections than you can make through an online coffee chat.

But having never hosted a big event of my own, I knew I needed to talk to an expert to get the low-down on how to make the most of a conference, networking opportunity, workshop or any other in-person event.

I loved this conversation with Robin Walker, business strategist and host of the two-day Lakeside Conference for women in business. She offers so many tips on finding the right events for you and your business, what mistakes to avoid when attending, how she organizes her event to help people make the most of it, how to have more in-depth conversations while you’re there and even how to be selected as a speaker at a coveted event.

You don’t want to miss this episode, straight from the event expert’s mind!

  • 017: Elevate Your Visibility Without a Formal Pitch

You’re ready to get more visible in your business, but the thought of sending out pitch after pitch (and then holding your breath, waiting for responses) seems like a waste of time to you. What if I told you that you don’t actually have to pitch podcasts and speaking opportunities? Not always, anyway.

On this episode of the Stories in Small Business podcast, I’m sharing how to leverage relationships to get more visibility in your business. Visibility in the form of speaking opportunities, summit invitations, podcast interviews and even invitations to VIP events.

Yes, this method is a long game. But nurturing relationships with the right people will bring you so much visibility and SO much more for your business (and theirs). Tune in to find out more!

  • 015: Why You Should Embrace Slow Growth in Your Business

Did you expect (hope for) overnight success when you started your business? I think it’s pretty common. Looking at social media, we’re led to believe that it’s common. It’s not, and anyone who leads you to believe that you can be an overnight success is lying to you.

Besides, I firmly believe that we need to do the grunt work in our business if we’re going to build a business that’s sustainable over time. That’s exactly what I’m sharing on this week’s episode of the Stories in Small Business podcast.

I’m sharing an example of someone else in my industry who shared her own experience with slow growth, giving you seven real reasons why slow growth is better than being a booming success and giving you some actionable steps to having your own growth strategy.

I also share the goods on my newest offering--the Content Mastery Lab. It’s a membership experience for business owners who want one go-to place to get education, resources and support for their own content marketing strategy.

You’re going to want to dive into this episode, sooner rather than later.

  • 014: Why Email Marketing is More Important Than Social Media

You’ve heard all about algorithms by now. It’s Facebook’s attempt at making sure our news feeds are curated to exactly what we want to see. Personal profiles are prioritized, and we all know that it’s against Facebook’s terms of service to promote our businesses on our personal profiles--though I know a lot of people still do.

The fact is, people aren’t seeing our business posts. Look at the reach on your last few Facebook or Instagram posts. What does it look like? Are 50 people seeing your posts? 100? Chances are, it’s a fraction of the number of likes you have on your page unless it’s an anomaly post.

That’s totally normal. From your regular Facebook posts to your Instagram feed to your Instagram stories, not as many people are seeing your content.

And that, my friend, is exactly why email marketing is such an important part of growing your business today.

On today’s episode of the Stories in Small Business podcast, I’m sharing some of the biggest no-brainer reasons you need to start nurturing your audience via email and I’m giving you the next best steps to getting started.
