Today on The Cooked Crab we’re coming to you live from the iconic El Arish Tavern with owners Alex and Tori.

Just over 12 months ago they took a huge leap of faith, reopening this historic country pub — with a newborn on the way, a big vision, and no idea just how wild the ride would be.

Since then they’ve brought the tavern back to life — pouring thousands of beers, smoking whole crocodiles, hosting events, bringing back live music and putting El Arish back on the map.

They’ve been featured across TV, radio and podcasts, built an incredible community, and are now gearing up for the pub’s huge 100-year anniversary.

Originally from Albury/Wodonga, Casey swapped country Victoria for chasing muddies in Far North Queensland and built a huge following by sharing the wild, unpredictable world of crabbing.

We chat about life as a commercial crabber, the regulations that made him walk away from the industry, his best crabbing tips, crazy stories from the water and everything in between.

We sit down with Stephen Cresswell (Cressy) — owner of The Bah Bait & Tackle and founder of The Stonka Fishing Challenge.

Cressy lives in Moranbah with his wife and two kids, and what started as a tackle shop run out of his garage (basically to justify buying more fishing gear 😂) has now grown into a full shop in Moranbah.

But behind the fishing, crabbing and epic yarns is a much bigger story.

After his wife nearly lost her battle with cancer 5 years ago, Cressy and his family turned that experience into something incredible — creating The Stonka Fishing Challenge to raise money for the Leukaemia Foundation.

It has since grown into one of the biggest fishing competitions in the country. 🎣🔥

Expect plenty of hectic stories, fishing adventures, crabbing chat and a few wild yarns along the way.
