The Context of White Supremacy welcomes Dr. Sean David Long. Gus found his 2023 dissertation: "The Politics of White Violence." The report provides a wealth of information for non-white people to re-evaluate what it means to be racially classified as White. Dr. Long's work suggests that a fundamental aspect of what it means to be White is the practice and promotion of violence to maintain White Power. His report examines events like the January 6th insurrection in Washington, D.C. and White teen Kyle Rittenhouse gunning down protesters in Wisconsin. We'll discuss the role of White Women, Racist Jokes, and if Dr. Long's research provides evidence if substantial numbers of White people will voluntarily desist from the practice of White Supremacy. Dr. Long found a correlation between Donald J. Trump's 2016 presidential campaign and an increase in hate crimes in the US. Two concurrent events within this pattern include the June 16, 2015 announcement that Trump was running for the White House. On the following day, June 17th, a White Terrorist killed 9 black worshipers in Charleston, South Carolina. One of the victims was State Senator Rev. The Context of White Supremacy welcomes the return of Dr. Angelyn Spaulding Flowers. A professor and coordinator of the Crime, Justice, and Security Studies Program at the University of the District of Columbia, Dr. Fowler is classified as a black female. She's one of the few black researchers who's written about the US scourge of mass school shootings. Dr. Flowers helped Gus and C.O.W.S. listeners establish a superb foundation for understanding school shootings in the US (and the world?). We discussed the book that she co-authored, 20 Years of School Based Mass Shootings in the United States, Columbine to Santa Fe, just as we began our discussion of the 1999 Columbine High School Massacre. We've done so much research since then and, tragically, there have been many more school shootings since our spring 2023 chat. We’re eager to hear Dr. Spaulding’s views on the conviction of black mother Deja Taylor, who’ll serve several years in prison/greater confinement after her 6-year-old son took her gun to school and shot his White female teacher. The Department of Justice published their findings on the 2022 Uvalde, Texas shooting that left 21 people dead - most of them classified as not White. The Context of White Supremacy hosts the weekly forum on Neutralizing Workplace Racism 01/19/24. We dedicate this broadcast to the memory of Victim of White Supremacy Antoinette Bonnie Candia-Bailey. The 49-year-old educator was employed at Lincoln University, an HBCU in Missouri. She took great time and care to professionally request support and guidance to address abusive co-workers and Racism on the job. Candia-Bailey was completely rejected by her White boss, Dr. John Mosley. Although many non-white people do not take their own life in response to White Supremacist abuse on the job, millions of non-white people around the planet are subjected to this sort of relentless workplace abuse. In fact, Gus chose this book a year previously, but reneged on the selection to study Columbine instead (Good Choice). Gus was about to pick a different book this year too. However, Suspected Racist Asgarian mentions Dorothy Roberts work on the child welfare system. Gus just spoke to her in person right here in Seattle, Washington. Asgarian also mentions lame Matthew Shepard, once again, suggesting that this White dude was the victim of a "hate crime" because he's "gay." The Context of White Supremacy welcomes Racist Suspect Kaitlin O’Connor. A White Woman and North Carolina State University alumnus, Ms. O’Connor is a public historian - which is a new title for Gus T. We’ll discuss her 2023 report: Jim Crow & G.I. Joe: The 54th Coast Artillery Regiment in North Carolina. She provides vivid details about the White Terrorist abuse that black soldiers faced when they moved to North Carolina’s Camp David in the 1940's. This is close to the Wilmington area, which experienced the 1898 White Supremacist Coup to purge black elected officials. This area of North Carolina, New Hanover County, has a White population well over 82%. The White Terrorist purge of black residence is directly responsible for the high population of powerful, wealthy Whites who live in this southeastern region of the state. O’Connor writes explicitly about how Carolina Whites feared “uppity” black males would disrupt the local System of White Supremacy. She includes black males’ use of counter-violence as well as the omission of this important World War II history from current museums and state history projects. We even made time to discuss Joel Spingarn, who’s a White man who worked for the NAACP during the 20th century. The Context of White Supremacy welcomes Warren Read. A White male, writer and educator, Mr. Warren is a Washington state native. Once again, James Loewen's Sundown Towns (Racially Restricted Regions) is instructive because many areas of Washington state and Minnesota where hostile to and/or prohibited the presence of black people. Read wrote about his White Grandfather, Louis Dondino, who participated in lynching thee black males in Duluth, Minnesota in 1920. Dondino served a brief stint in prison for his conviction of rioting (not murder) in this case. Read's book, The Lyncher in Me, is his account of this grizzly act of White Terrorism and a biography of his White (Racist?) family's criminal history - which includes child rape. Gus found this ironic considering the reason Dondino and other Whites lynched three black dudes is because the privileged trio was accused of raping a White girl - which turned out to be a lie. Read describes growing up in a mostly White Washington state enclave. However, he was "terrorized" in middle school by a loudmouth, thick-armed, kinky-haired black female. Read starts his memoir suggesting that he, a "gay" White dude, is also libel to be lynched or assassinated like Matthew Shepard. Contrary to popular opinion, Shepard is not a hate crime victim. Rather, this White dude was killed in a drug deal gone bad. She became known to many around the world for her efforts to maintain possession of her black family's Hilton Head Island property, even though thirsty, White developers have been greedily working to devour her acres. In Ohio, Brittany Watts was informed that a grand jury declined to criminally charge her for desecration of a corpse after she suffered a miscarriage. Reproductive rights scholar Dorothy Roberts was in Seattle, Washington this week to discuss how this case specifically illustrates the System of White Supremacy's designed attacks on black mothers and children. Speaking of the black babies, 11-year-old Ahmir Jolliff was buried this week in Perry, Iowa after being shot to death by a 17-year-old White boy. We also say the Deobra Reddin. This is the black male who was transmogrified into a social media caricature of black male savagery. Reddin violently assaulted a White female Las Vegas judge who denied him probation and ordered him to greater confinement. Reddin faced the same judge days later with his legs, arms, and torso shackled, a spit-guard smothering his face, contraptions incapacitating both arms, and burly, armed bailiffs eyeballing him hard. The Context of White Supremacy hosts the weekly summit on Neutralizing Workplace Racism 01/12/24 Gus T. attended the University of Washington’s panel discussion on anti blackness featuring Professor Dorothy Roberts. A lovely black female health care worker asked the black panelists for tips to minimize workplace stress. The panel seemed to lack substantive suggestions to help her solve problems or nourish her welling being. Gus made time to speak with her afterwards. However, true his curmudgeon nature, he did not mention Neutralizing Workplace Racism or The C.O.W.S. in general. We also hear from a non-white female who’s having her work space molested by a married White Man. We discuss strategies to eliminate unprofessional, creepy “cracker” conduct from a powerful White supervisor. We also hear a tragic reminder about the importance of safety in the workplace. “The Black African” shared that a privileged black male died at his work cite. Apparently, the owners made no effort to update or clarify safety protocols, no offer of additional safety training. The Katherine Massey Book Club @ The C.O.W.S. hosts the fourth and final session on Harry Dunn's Standing My Ground: A Capitol Police Officer's Fight for Accountability and Good Trouble After January 6th. Dunn is a privileged black male and has served with the U.S. Capitol Police since 2008 - the same year Barack Obama became president. Dunn was present for the infamous January 6th, 2021 Terrorist attacks at the U.S. Capitol building and reports that he was repeatedly called racist slurs and forced to use counter-violence to keep himself and others safe. Later in 2021, Dunn testified before the United States House Select Committee on the January 6 Attack. Dunn has now resigned his position with the Capitol Police Department and announced a run for Maryland's open Congressional seat. Last week, Dunn provided more details about what transpired on the day of the insurrection. He reminds listeners that many members of the hoard consumed alcohol and other narcotics while they stampeded through the Capitol building. Others defecated, vomited and urinated on the premises to demonstrate their fury over the allegedly stolen presidential election. Dunn demands that listeners question who told certain officers not to wear riot gear. Rather, they were instructed to store resources in a locked bus parked a considerable distance from the maelstrom. Apparently, distraught officers could not locate the bus key when the riot gear was needed. Dunn tells readers that this event is unprecedented in US history and has no comparison. Readers and Gus noted that this inaccurate. There were a number of riots at state capitols around the continent in 2020.
