  • #97: How to Capture Online Attention - Without Using Ads

Alright everyone, welcome to another exciting episode of The Creative Marketing Zone Podcast! I am your host and chief creative officer, Eric Koch (rhymes with watch) and this is the weekly show on all things creative to help you get into creative marketing zone for your business.

Today, I am super pumped to bring on Zack Slingsby, Founder and Creative Director at Human Factor Media, a video production agency focused on creating highly engaging videos that capture online attention for brands.

I actually got the awesome privilege to have lunch with Zack before the holiday break and we had a great time chatting it up personally. I also enjoyed hearing his perspective on the power of video and the waning death of ads - AKA interruption marketing.

As I have mentioned before on this show, back on episode 91, ads on social media can work, but there truly is an art and science behind this. Meaning there is a formula in which I broke down that clearly needs to be used in order to effectively get your message across through a series of good quality content that delivers value. Again the key word here is, "value."

What we are now starting to see, at least on my timelines and Stories is an overabundance of ads that are doing a miserable job of trying to desperately get our attention and sell right off the bat. And this tends to puts a sour taste of distrusting anything or anyone who shows up as an ad on social media.

If you think about it – social media is a place to be social, right guys? And yes, the juggernauts like Facebook, LinkedIn, YouTube and Twitter need to make money by selling ads (or your information). But people don't come on to social media to watch ads. They come to be entertained, educated, inspired, motivated, and engaged. Ads tend to disrupt this process.

The same thing is also happening outside of social media. People will do whatever it takes to avoid watching ads. They will use the bathroom, get snacks, go on social media, have pop up blockers installed, sign up for packages with no ads – e.g. Hulu premium version, fast forward with their DVR, etc.

As a brand or marketer knowing this, the question now becomes, "How in the heck do you capture the attention of your audience when people don't want to see ads?"

Well, my friends, this is where Human Factor Media comes into play as you will hear Zack talk more about here soon on the power of video that reaches people organically and drives them to take action, without selling. Interesting stuff, right?

Now, if this is your first time tuning into the awesomeness of The Creative Marketing Zone Podcast then welcome! I am super thrilled you are here. Each week I release a new episode featuring an awesome marketing guru sharing his or her ninja hacks or tips to help you get in the creative marketing zone for your business.

Alright, guys, we have an awesome show to conduct, don't we? So, without further ado, let's welcome Zack to the show!

    Key Takeaways

Man did I have a fun time with Zack! I learned a ton and got a lot of good clarity on the direction of what it takes to build a brand effectively in today's attention economy. Here were some of my key takeaways from today's show:

    • Learning more about Zack's background and the story behind his brand, Human Factor Media. It's the thing that makes something shareable.
    • Interruption marketing is driving people insane and ads are getting super annoying.
    • Zack mentioned an interesting stat on the show about how much money companies are going to lose in digital ads. Zack mentioned that by 2022 brands would lose more than $20 billion. However, after we did our interview together, Zack did share the link with me showing that this number is higher. A new study from Juniper Research has estimated that digital publishers stand to lose $27 billion by 2020 as online publishers struggle to find effective strategies to counter ad blocking. This should tell you something here about needing to differentiate your marketing efforts outside of just running ads.
    • Brands should be in the entertainment business – completely organic. Of course, at some point, there needs to be a pitch, but the series you put together needs to lead to the pitch - like a web series, or an NBC type show. All of the top guys are actually doing this, like Dollar Shave Club. And this is a great way for startups to differentiate from the tried and true commoditized methods we all grasp for.
    • Examples Zack shared and their results.

Alright, guys, we have an awesome show to conduct, don't we? So, without further ado, let's welcome Pia to the show!

    Key Takeaways:

How cool was that, right guys? Super awesome to have Pia on the show to share some web trends in 2019 to incorporate in helping you not only stand out, but to also enhance your user experience, keep users on your website longer, drive more leads, and so much more! Here were some of my key takeaways from today's episode:

    • The power of video and why this should be on your website. The first 15 seconds are going to be super crucial here. And asking a question up front, such as, "Are you struggling with, XYZ?", testimonial videos throughout your website and so much more can go a long way.
    • Why chatbots are going to play an ever-increasing role. This is not a first you have heard about this on the podcast, and I have already started using this for clients and have seen incredible results.
    • Integrative animations on your website. Gifs, screencasts and hovering motion users can experience when using their mouse to keep people on your website longer.
    • The Top 10 things to get into the dance party and open up the dance floor. First, you need to get invited, then you need to get to the red carpet, get past the bouncer, and eventually clear the dance floor. This all starts with the basics – a mobile ready site. Load speed, a blog with quality keywords and information on your topic, security and SSL security, hosting, video, and basic SEO, value proposition all come into play here as well.

  • #95: Tips to Build, Scale and Grow Your Business – One Process at a Time

Alright everyone, welcome to another exciting episode of The Creative Marketing Zone Podcast! I am your host and chief creative officer, Eric Koch (rhymes with watch) and this is the weekly show on all things creative to help you get into creative marketing zone for your business, or even for your personal life.

Today, I am super pumped to bring on Kevin Koskella, Co-Founder of Work Hero. Work Hero specializes in helping internet professionals by accomplishing their design and technical tasks so they can focus on the work they do best.

Now Work Hero is not a marketing agency, nor do they replace the need for Virtual Assistants for everything. Their team focuses on the annoying and technical tasks that internet business people should not have to deal with, and they keep it at a flat, affordable monthly rate for their service, which includes unlimited design tasks.

Instead of watching hours and hours of YouTube videos trying to figure everything out or having to go down the frustrating route of hiring multiple freelancers, Work Hero handles every task for you in one place. WordPress updates, HTML coding, email automation, platform integration, graphic design, you name it they can pretty much handle it for you. They support well-known platforms such as WordPress, Leadpages, Click Funnels, Infusionsoft, Kajabi, ActiveCampaign and more.

I wanted to bring Kevin on the show to discuss how he has built, scaled and grew his business one process at a time, and some of the results clients have seen by incorporating these same processes back into their business.

As you know, running a business is no easy feat, especially if you are starting out by bootstrapping – trust me, I know what this is all about. Scalability is a real thing, and there just isn't enough time in the day to do everything we would like or want to do. This is where outsourcing comes into play, and believe me, there are tons of things in our businesses that can be outsourced in which we may not have thought about. This is where Work Hero comes into play.

Kevin and I have a fun conversation about this on today's show, and I was able to learn a lot, which means you will as well. Exciting stuff!

Now, if this is your first time tuning into the awesomeness of The Creative Marketing Zone Podcast then welcome! I am super thrilled you are here. Either I feel a little more hopped up than usual today from the coffee I am drinking, or perhaps I am feeling excited because tomorrow – February 7th is my birthday guys! I am excited because I actually am going to celebrate for once.

In the past, I never really paid much attention to my birthday except for the fact that I do enjoy watching all three Back to the Future films on this day with my now 14-year-old son – hopefully he is not tired of this. But this year I am going to enjoy some time with friends and family and celebrate. This year is a year of rebuilding for me on many levels, and this is something I wrote down for this year, which was to actually celebrate this special day. I deserve it, right?

Off tangent, I know, sometimes I can be, but speaking of support from everyone tuning in - if you can do me a HUGE favor if you haven't already done so, please smash that subscribe button on your favorite podcast listening player to be alerted of new episodes each week. Alright, guys, we have an interview to conduct, don't we? So, without further ado, let's welcome Michelle to the show!

    Key Takeaways

    • I loved Michelle's story on how she became fascinated with Marketing growing up stemming from her childhood all the way through her corporate career of 16 years, including working for Microsoft for many of those years.
    • Michelle talked about the importance of having a good starting point, which is clearly knowing the problem you solve for your audience. She also stressed the importance of using the kind of words that come out of your client's mouths on your marketing copy and website.
    • You also need to figure out your ultimate endpoint – e.g. is it to take advantage of a special offer? Do you want to land more discovery calls, sign up for a webinar, etc.? Once you have your starting and end points figured out, then this is where your marketing funnel comes into play to bridge this gap between the two.
    • Michelle also talked about the important parts of a good funnel. First, warming up your audience is key to bring in the right people. This is where you can attract them with stories, examples, good questions, etc. You also want to invite your audience in. This is where a good lead magnet comes into play. As you guys know, lead magnets was a big topic for us on several episodes in 2018, and on episode 91. And finally, you want to have a clear next step for your audience. Do you want them to hop on a call with you, join a webinar or masterclass, etc.?
    • I loved Michelle's stories on her 1,000 failed sales calls that produced no results and the email list she rapidly built from being featured on a major publication that produced ZERO results in her bank account. This is a stark reminder that it is not about the numbers but about having the right audience in your funnels.
    • Michelle then went on to discuss how to set up a good marketing funnel and some good examples, one of them from a fashion client that totally became a game changer. This example was helpful because it clearly shows that funnels aren't just for marketers.
    • Lastly, Michelle shared some of the tools that are out there. ClickFunnels is what Michelle uses, but there are also many others out there that can be suitable for your business, such as Leadages, Kajabi, Thrive Themes and more.

  • #93: Cold Emailing Tips and Tricks PayPal, Uber and Salesforce Used to Grow

What up, everyone! Welcome to another exciting episode of The Creative Marketing Zone Podcast! My name is Eric Koch (rhymes with watch – or Koch Watch - hey, I like that), and I am your host and chief creative officer of The Creative Marketing Zone.

Today, I am super pumped to bring on Adrian Williams, founder of Promo Rocket. Promo Rocket creates products that leave a lasting impact through strategic gifting, promotional marketing and more.

I am excited to have Adrian on the show to not only discuss the merits of strategic gifting but to also hone in on cold emailing and how this strategy can be strategically leveraged to generate leads for your business.

Now several shows back, I released a short solo episode on why I felt like cold emailing was old school and is no longer relevant. But when I connected with Adrian, my mindset shifted. And the funny thing is that Adrian actually reached out to me via a cold email to be on the show. So this just shows that this can still work!

Adrian will share examples with us today – what to do and not do with cold emailing. He will also share with us the tools he uses to harvest, scrub, and send out the sequence of emails to grow and scale his business.

I should also mention that the methods Adrian will go over today are similar ones that were used by Elon Musk when he built PayPal. It is also what Uber used to launch in Chicago and several other cities. Salesforce, of course, pretty much pioneered cold email selling and it is how they built themselves into a billion dollar company, and today you get to learn some of the tips and tricks you can using cold emailing to grow your business to the next level. How cool is that, right guys?

Adrian will also share with us the importance of strategic gifting and why this is different than your standard promotional marketing with your logo plastered everywhere. If you recall back on episode 88, I had a fun conversation with Neil Juneja, founder of Gleam Law Firm. On the episode, Neil discussed how he uses strategic gifting with whiskey and boat parties to generate more leads from his clients and referral sources.

Of course, you don't need to go to the great expense of what Neil did on that show for that was just one example of what works for his law firm to generate business.

However, you can use strategic gifting in a myriad of ways to help you stand out from the pack and keep your business top of mind, which is getting harder and harder in today's day-and-age it seems.

But don't worry, Adrian will share his story on how he got into the promotional business game by offering strategic gifting solutions for clients and the cold emailing tactics to generate massive leads – so stay tuned and be sure to take notes!

Now, if this is your first time tuning into the awesomeness of The Creative Marketing Zone Podcast then welcome! I am super thrilled you are here. Each week I release a new episode featuring am awesome marketing guru sharing his or her ninja hacks or tips to help you get in the creative marketing zone for your business.

I have been doing this show for over a year and a half now and it is such a pleasure of mine to be able to connect with awesome folks sharing their tips – for free! I get to learn with you along this journey and believe me, this journey will continue!

And if you are a repeat listening friend of the show, then welcome back! As always, I am super elated that you have chosen me to be in your ear each week wherever you are. As you know the show keeps getting better and better, and I could not have been able to do this without your support.

Alright, guys, we have an interview to conduct, don't we? So, without further ado, let's welcome Adrian to the show!

    Key Takeaways

Here is a quick recap of some of my key takeaways from my conversation with Adrian:

    • Strategic gifting – what this is all about, and how to use strategic gifting to effectively stand out.

    • Cold emailing – how this can be used as your #1 outreach for marketing campaigns, especially if you are bootstrapping. As I have mentioned before, outbound is certainly not dead. In fact, outbound marketing, if done right, can be more scalable that inbound where you are constantly trying to get people into a funnel and work them through the various stages of your funnel to ultimately become a client. With outbound marketing strategies, like cold emailing, you can drastically cut this time down by focusing on getting your ideal audience on a call with you – or as we like to call, a discovery call.

    • Why it pays to write your emails when cold emailing as if you are writing to your Grandma. Adrian talked about his sequence of emails, which is about 5-6 or so and what he generally says in these emails. The typical open rates, if set up rate, can be as high as 50%.

    • The tools Adrian uses to harvest emails. You can use Fiverr to buy a list. Or you can also use a simple Google extension tool called Linked Helper to extract contacts from LinkedIn into a CSV file. I found this to be super cool!

    • Using an email scrubbing tool is imperative. I have used Neverbounce before in the past, which is super cheap. You want to have a list that is as clean as possible before uploading to send out your cold emails.

    • Do not use an email marketing CRM (e.g. Mailchimp, Convertkit, or ConstantContact) to send emails to this list. These are platforms in which you must receive permission to email these people – such as you have collected their info from a lead magnet. Trust me you will get banned if you use these tools for what is being discussed on today's show.

    • Instead, use Mailshake to send out your sequence of cold emails. Once you have your list together, simply upload to Mailshake, set up your campaigns, and fire away. Of course, you want to make sure you are careful with sending out your emails and not sending out hundreds or thousands per day to avoid getting banned from Gmail and their anti-spamming rules. But Mailshake is a great tool to use.

  • #92: You Can't Build a Brand on Neutral – LinkedIn Tips to Grow in 2019

    Alright guys, here we grow!

Welcome to another exciting episode of The Creative Marketing Zone Podcast! I am your host and chief creative officer, Eric and this is the weekly podcast for all things creative to help you build and grow your business!

Today I am super pumped to bring on Judy Schramm, CEO of ProResource, a marketing agency that specializes in LinkedIn personal branding for technology entrepreneurs, CEOs, thought leaders, sales executives, and lawyers.

ProResource helps define a strong personal brand online, with a dynamic and engaging social media presence that allows people to see the depth of their expertise, builds trust, and creates opportunities for quality conversations.

Judy, who you will get to hear more from in a few moments has worked with hundreds of small technology businesses and has been personally involved in launching more than 150 products.

Now around five years ago, ProResource started specializing in using LinkedIn, and the company has had tremendous success in helping clients build targeted prospecting lists allowing them to bypass the gatekeeper and get conversations started.

Judy and the ProResource team has also built a methodology and developed processes and systems for doing personal branding and lead generation effectively using LinkedIn.

They also help clients debug their marketing, do market research quickly and inexpensively, and build a talent pool to help grow businesses faster.

I am super thrilled to have Judy on the show because LinkedIn is a platform we have just started to explore here on The Creative Marketing Zone Podcast, and this is a platform in which I will be spending a lot of time on in 2019.

Recently, I had an interview with Joey Gilkey, founder of Tribe Prospecting and Co-Founder & CEO of Sales Pipeline Accelerator who shared several ninja tips for lead generation using LinkedIn.

Judy is here with us today to share some more awesome tips, but more so on the personal branding side to help build a community or tribe of loyal followers, land speaking engagements, TV spots, dos and don'ts with your LinkedIn profile, content strategies and so much more.

If you are looking at leveraging the power of LinkedIn in 2019 to grow your personal brand then this is an episode you will want to tune in and take notes on.

Now, if this your first time tuning in, then welcome – I am super thrilled you are here! Here on The Creative Marketing Zone Podcast is when I feature a marketing guru sharing his or her ninja secrets, hacks, timeless principles, etc. to help you get into The Creative Marketing Zone for your business. I have been doing this podcast for well over a year and a half and it has been a blessing in disguise for me as I get to interview awesome business owners and marketers sharing their tips that work, which I can apply and share with you each and every week – how cool is that?

And if you are a repeat listening friend of The Creative Marketing Zone Podcast then welcome back! As always, I am super elated you have chosen me to be in your ear each week wherever you are.

If you haven't already done so, then be sure to smash that subscribe button on your favorite podcast listening player to stay tuned of fresh content released each week. And if you are totally up for it, definitely leave me a review on iTunes! As you know, reviews mean a ton as it helps attract more awesome folks like yourself eager to creatively grow their empires!

And if you do leave me a review then let me know either on social media via Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn, or Facebook. You can also email me directly at [email protected] and I just may feature your review on a future episode or provide a special shout out on social media!

This week's feature review on iTunes comes from jhall141, which states:

    "So good!

I love how authentic and fun Eric is! He truly has progressed a lot since the early episodes and it is just a testament to show that it pays to get started and keep progressing as he often mentions. I learn something new each week and love it! – Jhall141"

Thanks so much, Jhall, and yes I can tell you are a regular listener as I have talked about this on many episodes. I often get asked from people interested in starting their own podcast what it's like to run a weekly podcast, especially more so now as I am close to episode 100. I always return their question with a question, "Why do you want to start a podcast?"

The reason why I ask this question is that running a weekly podcast is a lot of work! This is definitely a long-term game and it is not a place to make a quick buck.

But if you do play your cards right by being consistent each week and use your platform to share good info and build solid relationships with your guests and listening friends, then you can use the platform to help you build and grow your business to a new level. Meaning, podcasting can open up more opportunities to help you grow your brand if that is the direction you are looking to grow your business.

Alright, guys, one last thing before we jump into the awesomeness of this show with Judy!

If you haven't already done so, then be sure to listen to episode 91 after turning in today's show. I have gotten a lot of engagement and response from that solo episode sharing my top 5 creative hacks to book more prospecting calls in 2019.

If you are a service-based business owner (e.g. coach, consultant, marketer, or agency owner) and are looking to get more clients in 2019 then episode 91 is a must. The tips I shared are super actionable, and I included the free resource guide to go along with it.

Just go to www.TheCreativeMarketingZone.com and on the home page, you will see the link that says, "Get More Clients" to get your free guide to go along with that episode, episode 91.

We got an awesome show to do today guys, don't we? So without further ado, let's welcome Judy to the show!

    Key Takeaways

    • Judy's fascinating journey in marketing, along with how and why she got into LinkedIn.
    • How to use LinkedIn to enhance your own brand and develop your professional presence online. Microsoft and Google are driving people to your profile to learn about you, so using LinkedIn as an effective landing page for your business can help you tremendously.
    • Who is Googling you that you care about? What do those people need to know about you? This needs to be represented on your profile page. And this involves telling a story of where they are now, how they got here, and where they want to go – your vision.
    • How to build trust on LinkedIn through credibility. There are five things you want to leverage to help you build trust on your profile in which Judy covered.
    • Sharing your accomplishments (e.g. track record), your contribution (or what you are doing to give back) to the community for the greater good, and allowing yourself to let your personality shine on LinkedIn is key. I love what Judy stated when she said, "You can't build a brand on neutral." Hence the title of this podcast episode.
    • Best tips on engagement and curating content. Five minutes a couple of times per week can go a long way on LinkedIn. This is encouraging to hear, especially for the busy CEOs or C-Suite executives who need to be focusing on other core aspects of their business.

  • #90: Print Media is NOT DEAD! Exclusive Tips to Help You Stand Out From the Noise

Alright guys, let's do this! Welcome to another exciting episode of The Creative Marketing Zone Podcast! I am your host and chief creative officer, Eric, and this is the weekly podcast for all things creative to help you build and grow your business!

Today, we have an awesome guest on our show. Gina Daschbach, Founder and Chief Creative Officer of PEROOZ The Magazine Creator. Gina is in the print media and marketing business, and she works with entrepreneurs, authors, speakers, mission-driven firms and coaches who are content creators seeking to elevate their brand to a whole new level.

I wanted to bring Gina on the show because of her experience and knowledge in helping content creators resurrect their high-converting content into a format most of us haven't considered, which is print.

As you know, there is SOOO much digital noise, and we are all trying to get the attention of our target audience. But did you know that while everyone is saying print media is dead there just so happens to be a 70% higher recall rate versus digital using this medium?

As Gina will share with us today, when someone holds something in their hand, an emotional/sensory connection is made that you simply cannot capture in the digital realm.

I am excited to have Gina on the show with us today not only because of her awesome experience in this realm but also because she will be sharing some excellent insights, strategies, and tactics that work to help you stand out from the noise using print media.

If you are a content creator, then this is definitely an episode you will want to tune into and take notes on.

Now, if this is your first time tuning in, then welcome – I am super thrilled you are here!

This show just keeps getting better and better, and I couldn't have been able to do so without your support! And as a regular listener of the show, you'd know that I was releasing episodes twice per week – Tuesday's and Friday's. Friday's were the solo episodes in which I would share something new I have learned that works or doesn't work.

Well, I had to put a stop to the Friday episodes for now, but for good reason!

I found that I was spending a ton of time focused on getting these episodes out per week (in a race against the clock) and not enough time in other areas of my business to grow, which is a learning curve many of us go through I imagine as content creators.

So, I have a made a strategic decision to go back to releasing episodes once per week on Tuesday's. This will give me more time to keep releasing quality interviews and episodes, promote the heck out of these shows, and focus more on revenue-generating activities for the business as this community continues to grow.

One last thing guys before we jump into the awesomeness of this show with Gina!

A lot of exciting projects are underway for 2019 here at The Creative Marketing Zone in conjunction with this podcast, and one of those projects is the recent release of my Creative Marketing Blueprint/Roadmap for service-based businesses seeking to grow in 2019 and beyond!

I realize a lot of you tuning in to The Creative Marketing Zone Podcast are fellow digital marketers, solopreneurs, business coaches and consultants who are DIYers like myself. So you needing to hire me for your marketing needs probably doesn't make sense.

However, what may make sense is to have some greater clarity, focus, or just some fresh creative insights on how you can creatively grow your business in 2019 and beyond.

If this sounds like you then I encourage you to jump on a free 30-minute creative marketing strategy call with me.

Simply go to https://www.thecreativemarketingzone.com/creative-marketing-strategy-session/ and set up a free call with me.

No sales gimmicks on these calls. I just look forward to taking a genuine interest in learning more about you and your business and provide some good actionable recommendations for you. And if it makes sense to learn more about having me put together a detailed roadmap or blueprint together for you as your guide in 2019 then we can certainly explore or discuss this option as well – but only if it makes sense.

I have already filled up a few spots, so I really only have time for four more to be filled in December and January. Again, all you need to do is visit https://www.thecreativemarketingzone.com/creative-marketing-strategy-session/ and schedule your call today, while space is still available!

Alright, guys, we have an awesome interview to release, don't we? Let's get to it and welcome Gina to the show!

    Key Takeaways

    • First, I truly loved hearing Gina's story on what got her into print media starting when she was a young child and her love for breakfast cereals. I also enjoyed when she talked about her experience working with her dad putting together catalogs for his auto parts and how stories played a huge factor in driving phone calls that led to sales.

    • As Gina pointed out on the show, there will always be a place for online marketing, but what we are going to see more of is using online marketing to support offline sales opportunities and vice versa – offline to support online. Towards the end of the show, when talking about augmented reality (AR), there were some awesome examples of this being mentioned of what we can expect in the future, or what is even happening today with being able to try on watches, experience a new car, or go shopping literally right from your magazine.

    • There is a 70% higher recall rate of a message being read in print then there is in the digital space. As Gina pointed out, on average we are confronted with 10,000 messages per day and 3,000 of those are paid to get in front of us. Apps, notifications, Waze alerts, you name it – there are so many distractions in the online realm, which can certainly explain why we have a hard time remembering things and not having a strong connection to what we see. Also, there tends to be no easy breadcrumbs to get back to these messages online. For when we try and get back to what we meant to read back up on we end up getting sidetracked along the way – this happens to me all the time!

    • Gina shared some really cool examples of clients she works with, including the Fibromyalgia Health Coach and how she connects her print to join her programs online.

    • Gina also shared her 4 part InkCredibility Method, which was broke out the acronym RISE: (R) Rise out of digital overwhelm, (I) Identify the content you have that tells your story effectively (S) Strategize unique distribution opportunities (E) Engage and experience – get your content into the hands of your audience, have them experience it and take action! As Gina pointed out, 64% of readers of magazines take some form of action – how cool is that?

  • #89: Timeless Marketing Principles That Will Help You Build a Prosperous Business

Howdy, everyone! Welcome to another exciting episode of The Creative Marketing Zone Podcast! My name is Eric, your host, and chief creative officer of The Creative Marketing Zone, and today I am super thrilled to bring on Kimberly Rice, President and Chief Strategist of KLA Marketing Associates to discuss timeless marketing principles that will help you build a prosperous business in 2019 and beyond!

Nationally recognized as one of the top leaders in law firm business development strategy, Kimberly collaborates with lawyers and firms of all sizes to guide them in building, growing and sustaining a prosperous business and educate them on how to exceed client expectations and increase revenue.

Kimberly is the author of the recently published "Rainmaker Roadmap: A Step-by-Step Guide to Building a Prosperous Business" (available on Amazon) and is a frequent speaker on a wide array of professional service business growth topics.

And in response to clients' requests, Kimberly founded Women in Law Rainmaker Forum to co-create positive change with women lawyers seeking to jump-start their business development efforts and create the career of their dreams through group learning, peer mentoring and masterminding business challenges.

I am excited to have Kimberly on the show today because she will share with us timeless marketing principles any business can use to prosper for many years to come! These principles even apply for businesses with a lot of red tape in which Kimberly specializes in for well over a decade now at KLA Marketing Associates.

Now usually, I steer clear of certain verticals such as legal, accounting, and insurance because of how tricky it can be to effectively market these businesses. I mean it's not like I can promote an accountant as being "creative" without getting in trouble, right? That may be a bad example or my bad attempt of trying to make a joke.

But nonetheless, Kimberly will break down how she goes about marketing for her clients effectively that have a lot of red tape. She will share some of the proven strategies and tactics that work, examples along with results, and so much more.

These are tips not just for professional service firms, but also for any business out there seeking to grow. And what I love most about the conversation I had with Kimberly is that these tips are reminders that we need to go back to the basics with our marketing, especially when it comes to building solid relationships, reputation enhancement, and contact management as Kimberly will go over on today's awesome episode!

Now, if this is your first time tuning in, then welcome – I am super thrilled you are here! Here on The Creative Marketing Zone Podcast is when I feature a marketing guru sharing his or her ninja secrets, hacks, timeless principles, etc. to help you get into The Creative Marketing Zone for your business. I have been doing this podcast for well over a year and a half and it has been a blessing in disguise for me as I get to interview business owners and marketers sharing their tips that work, which I can apply and share with you each and every week – how cool is that?

And if you are a repeat listening friend of The Creative Marketing Zone Podcast then welcome back! As always, I am super elated you have chosen me to be in your ear each week wherever you are.

I found that I was spending a ton of time focused on getting these episodes out per week and not enough time in other areas of my business to grow, which is a learning curve many of us go through I imagine.

So, I have a made a strategic decision to go back to releasing episodes once per week on Tuesday's. This will give me more time to produce better quality interviews and episodes, promote the heck out of these shows, and focus more on revenue-generating activities for the business as this community continues to grow.

Tons of exciting things in store for 2019 with The Creative Marketing Zone and this podcast which you will hear more about when the timing is right.

But if you haven't already done so, then be sure to smash that subscribe button on your favorite podcast listening player to stay tuned of fresh content released each week.

All of my info is synced up on the show notes page to this episode right here. You can also email me directly at [email protected] and I just may feature your review on a future episode in which I will do so now as this review comes in from Stephanie Machina at iLoveMusicMoreThanYou in which she states:

Eric is a fantastic business partner. I reached out to him after a recommendation from another business connection since he has a niche that is not only growing, but a few steps ahead of mine. He offered really solid input and action steps, and was willing to teach from his own mistakes and successes.

His podcast is fantastic! He teaches his listeners to work smarter by bringing on some of the brightest in their own fields. Grateful to have the opportunity to chat with him, strategize, and continuously learn from his fresh outlook.

Stephanie, thank you so much! First off, I love your handle on iTunes – iLoveMusicMoreThanYou – and yes I had a wonderful time connecting with you to learn more about you, your business, and all the amazing things in store for your future. I know I shared a ton of great resources on our call and I am super glad I could be of service to you.

And speaking of service guys, this is actually a perfect quick segue before jumping into today's awesome interview with Kimberly!

I just launched my Creative Marketing Blueprint/Roadmap for service-based businesses seeking to grow in 2019 and beyond! You will hear me talk more about this in the coming weeks, but this is the first time I am mentioning it on this show.

I realize a lot of you tuning in to The Creative Marketing Zone Podcast are fellow digital marketers, solopreneurs, business coaches and consultants who are DIYers like myself. So you needing to hire me for your marketing needs probably doesn't make sense.

However, what may make sense is to have some greater clarity, focus, or just some fresh creative insights on how you can grow your business in 2019 and beyond.

If this sounds like you then I encourage you to jump on a free 30-minute creative marketing strategy call with me.

Simply visit this page to schedule your free 30-minute creative marketing strategy session to get the ball rolling -> https://www.thecreativemarketingzone.com/creative-marketing-strategy-session/

No sales gimmicks on these calls. I just look forward to taking a genuine interest in learning more about you and your business, much like as you heard from Stephanie's awesome review earlier, and provide some good actionable recommendations for you. And if it makes sense to learn more about having me put together a detailed roadmap or blueprint together for you as your guide in 2019 then we can certainly explore or discuss this option as well – but only if it makes sense.

Alright, guys, we have an awesome interview to release, don't we? Let's get to it and welcome Kimberly to the show!

    Key Takeaways

    • I loved hearing Kimberly's storied journey on how she got to where she is today! What's funny is before our actual interview was being recorded she was sharing some awesome stories with me, which I was thinking to myself, "Man, I wish was recording this!" But nonetheless, it was great to hear her talk about her experience and how marketing has evolved since the 90s and is much more measurable today!
    • Kimberly stressed this throughout the interview, which is something she preaches all the time as well, and that is "there is no one marketing tactic that will carry the load of building a prosperous business." You can have the best website out there, but if you are not putting in the work – e.g. content marketing, SEO, etc. – then your website won't solve your marketing woes or generate the results you are looking for. As I like to often say, marketing is no Field of Dreams – you can't just build it and expect they (your customers) will come.
    • The 3 pillars to a prosperous business. Kimberly talked extensively on these, which are relationship building, reputation enhancement, and contact management. All of your marketing activities should fall into one of these three as she explained on the show, and she breaks these down in her awesome book which I have synced up in the show notes page for you to check out right here.
    • Who are your likely referral sources? Building relationships with these folks are key to the growth of your business.
    • The importance of targeted networking and what you must do to be successful when doing targeted networking, which is all about the giving to get principle.
    • The importance of understanding the ripple effect of the law of attraction. Marketing is a long-term game if done, right. Trust the process, stay the course and focus on building those solid relationships one person at a time.
    • What to focus on with your marketing if you are just starting out Day 1. This applies to not just professional service firms but to pretty much any business out there in which Kimberly stressed the importance of your unique value proposition, getting comfortable with your fee structure, developing capital support, and investing six months in professional development and strategic planning for your business.

  • #88: Whiskey Referrals, Boat Parties, and Unconventional Law Firm Marketing

Welcome to another exciting episode of The Creative Marketing Zone Podcast! I am your host and chief creative officer, Eric, and this is the weekly podcast for all things creative to help you build and grow professionally and personally!

Today I am super pumped to bring on Neil Juneja, founder, and managing partner at Gleam Law firm.

Neil is an intellectual property lawyer and his impeccable track record and years of marijuana law experience navigating the complexities of patents, trademarks, and copyrights is what helped Gleam Law stand out from the competition.

Throughout his career to date, he has filed over 400 marijuana cannabis trademarks and patent applications. He also represents clients worldwide with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).

Neil has also been featured in Newsweek, Time Magazine, and countless documentaries for his work in the cannabis industry.

Now, I didn't bring Neil on the show today to specifically discuss marijuana law. I did, however, bring on Neil to discuss how he has creatively grown his firm by leveraging some unorthodox marketing strategies and tactics – whiskey, boat parties and more!

As everyone tuning into our awesome weekly podcast should know by now, we are all about sharing creative ninja tips, and if you are looking at ways to generate business by doing things a little bit different, then surely this is the episode for you!

Now, if this your first time tuning into the awesomeness of this show then Welcome, I am super thrilled you are here. Key Takeaways from My Conversation With Neil

    • How and why Neil leverages whiskey and boat parties to land referrals
    • Why it pays to create a category and exploit that category – the Cirque du Soleil example was mentioned
    • The importance of finding your personality and tapping into your personality with your marketing.
    • Why you shouldn't go out and network. Instead, go out and make friends – so true here.

    How to Connect With Neil

If you need help with anything in Cannabis law, business law, intellectual property or litigation then definitely reach out to Neil at Gleamlaw.com or at assholelawyer.com.
