The Credible Teacher

I thought about not posting this (because I don't want to sound negative) but I am (because this is part of the teaching experience). I document a rough afternoon and what my role is as the teacher.

I document my eighth lunch with a student and reflect on a quote from a guy named Sadhguru concerning what humans actually know in an ever expanding universe we live in.

I document a conversation about what to do if you win the lottery and how teaching is an act of service...again. Also, the power we have to make decisions that help us and build relationships with students.

I document how many lunches I've had with students so far this year and share the introduction to a new study I'm reading regarding the power dynamics in the classroom.

I document a recent theme I've recognized that involves helping certain students become more aware of how their actions create perceptions from their peers.

I share the abstract along with some key points made in a study that investigated the effect of teacher misbehavior on student affect for the teacher and teacher credibility. The study was published in January of 2006 in Communication Education and was done by Sara R. Banfield, Virginia P. Richmond and James C. McCroskey.

I document some thoughts on where I'm at with building relationships this year and the need to have some community circles today in class. Also, I share an update on positive phone calls home and how awesome my lunch was today with a student.

I share the '10 Ways' along with 'what to do instead' from an article written by Jamie Utt in 2015. I document why I read the article as a part of the '21-day racial equity challenge' I began as a professional goal this year and share my key takeaways.

I document a conversation I had with my oldest son when he asked what the word 'fail' meant and how it relates to what we do as teachers everyday.

I read and reflect on an article called 'Hugging A Porcupine' by educational blogger Rob Miller from viewfromtheedge.net. It's a tear-jerker...a piece that makes you think about how awesome of a job teaching can be and how hard it can be at the same time. Enjoy!
