Kate O'Neill began her career in Victoria Police at Broadmeadows before moving into intelligence and investigative policing in the Crime Department. She worked on the Black Saturday bushfires in the Phoenix Taskforce and Clan Labs. She became a detective before going to the Police Academy, working in several other roles before a promotion to the Professional Standards Command. Kate is currently an Inspector and the Local Area Commander for the City of Whittlesea. She's also a proud parent to three adult stepchildren, two of whom are following her and her husband's footsteps by joining Victoria Police. They have been foster parents to 16 children along the way! Not content with her many achievements to date, Kate is also the Chair of Victoria Police Legacy.

The former Leading Senior Constable spent 26 years in Victoria Police, before retiring from ill-health. Paul's solo endurance challenge is all for a good cause! He's fund-raising for TJF -The Journey Forward - a registered charity group and to raise awareness of PTSD.

Currently in Australia, there are about 2,800 long-term missing persons. That is, people who've been missing for longer than three months. But what if a person is missing, presumed murdered and someone won't reveal where the body is?

The "No Body, No Parole" laws - for those convicted of murder who will not reveal where the body is - don't go far enough and many cases go unresolved adding further grief to the family, loved ones and any investigating detectives.

Former Victoria Police Detective Senior Sergeant Val Smith is part of the Missing in Australia network pushing for new legislation.

Bruce "Knighty" Knight is regarded as an expert in tactical policing within Australia. He left as a Superintendent with Victoria Police after 37 years' service, 18 in the SOG or Special Operations Group.

Bruce is a Sniper, Senior Bomb Technician and Weapons Instructor. After serving operationally, he was promoted to Inspector when he took charge of the day-to-day SOG operations. His specialist expertise was recognised nationally when he was appointed as Course Director of the Police Tactical Group Counter Terrorist Course at the Special Air Service Regiment Barracks in WA. 

After leaving VicPol, Knighty worked in the commercial sector at Monash University and Linfox.

Imagine being called to a job involving a man who walked into a kindergarten, pulled out a gun and held four children hostage. During the seven-hour siege, he poured petrol over the children, threatening to ignite them. 

At the time Bruce "Knighty" Knight was a Senior Sergeant, attached to Victoria Police Special Operations Group. In fact, he still describes this job as "the most stressful day of my life". 

Bruce is highly decorated, including a Victoria Police Valour Award for a different operation. He spent 37 years in the job, 18 in the SOG. As well as other SOG qualifications, he was also a senior Bomb Technician which meant he was aptly qualified to deal with this particular siege.

It's not always easy to have your first crime fiction novel published - but Tara Oldfield has succeeded! Her first book Diamonds, Furs & Murder: The Many Crimes of Mona Hayes has been published by Ginninderra Press and no doubt she's planning her next one.

Tara is a PR and communications professional who currently works at the State Archives. She's written for Traces Magazine and Ancestor publications and in 2004 won a Mander Jones Awards for her short historical fiction, Bitter Salts. When she's not writing, watching or listening to crime stories - she's singing!

John Bodinnar had a brilliant career both inside and outside Victoria Police, retiring after 35 years as a Chief Superintendent. But one case he investigated has remained with him forever. The abduction of 8-year-old Eloise Worledge.

 During 1974 as a young Detective, John was transferred to Moorabbin CIB and was the first on the scene at Eloise’s house. He and his partner were initially suspicious about the information provided by the family and evidence at the crime scene. The case remains one of Victoria’s longest unsolved child disappearances. John has never forgotten the case and hopes that the Victoria Police decision to increase the reward to $1 million dollars for information leading to Eloise’s whereabouts will bring closure to the family. John is now 80 years old and still lives in hope this case will be solved in his lifetime. He speaks exclusively to The Crime Couch in the final of this two-part special.

John G Bodinnar started as an Albury car salesman before joining Victoria Police. He’s had a stellar career inside and outside “the job” retiring as a Chief Superintendent. John was awarded an Australian Police Medal for services to community policing in developing countries.

Initially stationed at South Melbourne, then St Kilda’s Traffic Operations Group before various Crime Car Squads and Moorabbin CIB. This was where he became involved in the Eloise Worledge abduction case. John rose through the ranks, and was promoted to Superintendent in charge of the new Traffic Camera Office. As a Chief Superintendent he became the Director of the Commercial Development Group which saw him move to Johannesburg.

After leaving Victoria Police, John worked extensively overseas in the Middle East and Africa. He was contracted with Botswana Police, Tonga Police, Lancashire Constabulary and South Africa’s Dept of Justice.
