The Cruise Ship Murder Of Anna Kepner episodes

  • Anna Kepner Case: Shauntel Went to Court for WHAT?!

Anna Kepner’s cruise ship murder case has another court record pulling the Hudson and Kepner families back into the same story. Shauntel Hudson is seeking child support from her ex-husband, Thomas Hudson, as their son Timothy Hudson remains in federal custody awaiting trial.

Shauntel alleges Thomas missed multiple months of court-ordered support, and her filing says the original amount was $2,129 a month for three children. The amount later fell to $1,092 as fewer children remained covered. She also wants the court to review the amount because she believes Thomas earns substantially more. Thomas disputes both points, and the judge has not ruled.

A separate federal filing shows why the family conflict matters to Timothy’s defense team. His lawyers told Judge Beth Bloom that limited access to certain relatives has made their investigation harder. Because Timothy was 16 when Anna died, the defense is also preparing for a Miller hearing, where a judge considers a juvenile defendant’s upbringing and other personal history before life without parole can be imposed.

Bloom granted the defense request to delay trial after prosecutors did not oppose it. The trial is set to begin November 2, 2026, with October 23 as the deadline for any plea agreement. Timothy has pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder and a second serious federal charge tied to Anna’s death aboard the Carnival Horizon.

The child-support petition is separate from the criminal charges. It documents another fight among the people whose history and cooperation may matter to the defense. The next federal deadline will test whether Timothy’s lawyers can complete that family investigation before they have to choose between a plea resolution and trial.

  • Anna Kepner Cruise Ship Murder: What His Mom Filed Eight Weeks Out

Thomas Hudson went to court before the Carnival Horizon ever left the dock. His contempt motion accused Shauntel of withholding their children and refusing him his court-ordered parenting time. His lawyer asked for 140 make-up days — custody exchanges she’d allegedly blocked. Then Anna Kepner was found dead in a cabin his son shared with her on a cruise Thomas says he never approved.

Now Thomas is carrying the cost of his son’s federal murder defense while Shauntel files a child support petition claiming he owes her money. According to court documents, she alleges he missed several months of payments and wants a judge to order him to pay more. Thomas denied every claim. The original order was $2,129 for three kids. One aged out. Timothy went to federal detention. The amount sits at $1,092 for the couple’s nine-year-old daughter — the child Thomas has been trying to get custody of since November 2025.

His February 2026 emergency petition argued that a nine-year-old should not be living with her stepfather where her brother stands accused of killing the stepfather’s daughter. When Anna’s body was found, Thomas offered to come get the girl immediately. Shauntel declined and cited DCF involvement. Christopher Kepner — Anna’s father and Shauntel’s current husband — told reporters he wanted Timothy in “orange jumpsuit and handcuffs.” That’s the household Thomas is trying to remove his daughter from.

Thomas appears to be the only parent cooperating with Timothy’s defense. The court filings he entered into the record — the texts, the custody exchanges, the timeline of who said what and when — are the reason the public knows what happened inside this family after Anna died. The other side has invoked the Fifth.

  • Anna Kepner's Stepbrother's Mom Won't Do What?

A federal court filing just used the phrase "very unfortunate family dynamic" to explain why Timothy Hudson's murder trial can't move forward. His defense lawyers told Judge Beth Bloom they don't have access to the family members they need for a Miller hearing — the constitutionally required proceeding that determines whether a sixteen-year-old defendant can be sentenced to life.

The defense won't say who they can't reach. A custody fight between Timothy's biological parents — separate from the criminal case — fills in the details the defense filing deliberately omitted. His mother is married to Anna Kepner's father Christopher. Custody filings from Timothy's biological father allege she texted him in the first forty-eight hours that she'd told their son "I love him." Within weeks, those filings claim she said she couldn't jeopardize her marriage. Court records show she and Christopher expelled Timothy from their home. His step-grandmother publicly called for charges against both of them for failing to supervise the children on the cruise.

Timothy has been in federal custody since mid-June. The detention order guarantees family visitation. According to the documented record, his mother hasn't visited. The defense needs her testimony to build Timothy's Miller case — his mental health history, his medications, his behavioral history, the home environment. Every one of those questions leads back to what the adults in this family knew before they put two unrelated teenagers in a cabin together without a parent — and what they chose not to act on.

  • Anna Kepner's Last Snapchat: What Adults Ignored Before Her Death

Here's the pattern that shows up in case after case, and Anna Kepner's story might be the cleanest example of it yet. Somebody warns the adults about a teenager, and the adults reach for whatever explanation lets them off the hook. Obsession becomes a crush. A knife becomes a hobby. The comfortable explanation requires doing nothing, and nothing is exactly what gets done.

Look at what people say the family already knew before Anna, an eighteen-year-old senior from Florida, boarded the Carnival Horizon with her blended family in November 2025. A named adult claims he told national media he'd described her fear directly. Her ex-boyfriend says an incident he watched happen over FaceTime made it to her parents. Anna herself reportedly didn't want to go. Days later, she was dead in the cabin she'd been assigned to share with her stepbrother, Timothy Hudson — who has pleaded not guilty to federal charges and is presumed innocent unless a jury says otherwise.

This episode starts with a court filing. Prosecutors handed Hudson's defense team the full Snapchat extraction, FBI reports, and grand jury materials, all under seal. Anna's final message, timestamped 8:14 p.m., anchors the government's timeline — and now it's discovery in the case against the boy accused of killing her.

From there, we go somewhere true crime usually avoids: accountability. A federal judge found language for what this household wouldn't act on while Anna was still alive. The family only found clarity about the danger after she was gone. And "we didn't see it coming" keeps getting used like it means something. It doesn't — not for a girl who told people, repeatedly, that she was afraid.

  • What Did The FBI Find On The Carnival Horizon After Anna Kepner Was Killed?

The crime scene was a cruise ship. It sailed into port the morning after Anna Kepner was found dead. Thousands of passengers disembarked. The vessel was cleaned and prepared for its next voyage. And somewhere in that window, FBI investigators had to recover everything they could from a stateroom, a ship's surveillance system, and a population that was about to scatter across the country. This look back, with retired FBI Special Agent Jennifer Coffindaffer, examines what they found — and what building a case at sea actually looks like.

Unsealed court records describe security footage tracking Timothy Hudson's movements the night Anna died. A cellular phone that ended up smashed in a trash bin. DNA testing that points in one direction. Anna was found concealed beneath a bed — wrapped in a blanket, covered with life jackets, cause of death mechanical asphyxiation — in the stateroom she shared with her sixteen-year-old stepbrother. Ship surveillance reportedly shows one person entering and exiting.

Coffindaffer reads the evidence from the perspective of someone who spent a career handing cases to prosecutors — and gives her honest assessment of watching a defendant facing charges this serious get sent home on GPS monitoring after the judge acknowledged an adult would be detained. Hudson is living with a relative in a home that reportedly includes two other minors, despite release conditions prohibiting unsupervised contact with anyone underage. He faces first-degree murder and an additional serious federal charge. He has pleaded not guilty. We revisit where the case stood at the time of our reporting.

  • What Happened To Anna Kepner's Family After The Carnival Horizon?

The family that boarded the Carnival Horizon together has fractured in every direction — and the fault lines run deeper than most people realize. This look back, with psychotherapist Shavaun Scott, examines the human wreckage behind the legal proceedings.

Timothy Hudson's biological mother, Shauntel — who is married to Anna Kepner's father, Christopher — expelled Timothy from the household within weeks of Anna's death. Neither she nor Christopher has seen him since. Court filings show his biological father introduced text exchanges alleging Shauntel said she couldn't risk her marriage to help her own son. Filings allege the family called for Timothy to be "buried." His father alleges she chose her husband over her child.

Scott examines what produces that kind of rupture in a blended family already in crisis — whether Shauntel is acting out of grief, guilt, self-preservation, or a combination that these dynamics uniquely create. She addresses the psychological toll on a sixteen-year-old already facing life in federal prison whose primary parent has publicly sided against him. And she names the person almost no one is talking about: the nine-year-old sibling caught between both sides of a family that will never be whole again. Meanwhile, a federal judge acknowledged an adult facing these charges would be detained — and still let Hudson remain free on GPS monitoring in a home that reportedly includes two other minors. Hudson faces first-degree murder and an additional serious federal charge. He has pleaded not guilty. We revisit where the case stood at the time of our reporting.

  • Did Anyone Try To Warn Anna Kepner's Family Before The Cruise?

The people outside this family are telling a story the prosecution's "no warning" language doesn't acknowledge. Anna Kepner's ex-boyfriend's father has publicly claimed he tried to warn the family — that Timothy Hudson was allegedly fixated on Anna, wanted to date her despite being her stepbrother, reportedly always carried a large knife, and was allegedly seen in a compromising position during a FaceTime call. Anna's aunt says Anna didn't want to go on the cruise. Hudson's own father accused the mother of taking the children without permission. Despite all of that, Anna was placed in a cabin with Hudson and no parents present.

This look back sits with those warnings and what it means that they didn't change anything. Anna was eighteen, a cheerleader from Titusville with plans to join the Navy. She was found dead under a bed aboard the Carnival Horizon — wrapped in a blanket, concealed beneath life jackets, cause of death mechanical asphyxiation. Ship surveillance reportedly shows one person entering and exiting. Her younger brother reportedly heard violent sounds from the locked cabin.

Retired FBI Special Agent Jennifer Coffindaffer examines whether the alleged pattern transforms this from an isolated event to an escalation — and what the deliberate concealment of the crime scene, combined with Hudson's claimed memory loss, tells the FBI about intent. Eric Faddis breaks down the defense moves and what a seven-day trial estimate signals. Hudson faces first-degree murder and an additional serious federal charge. He has pleaded not guilty and remains free on GPS monitoring. Anna's father is calling for detention. We revisit where the case stood at the time of our reporting.

  • Why Is The Family Behind Anna Kepner's Case Fractured In Every Direction?

The family that was supposed to come together on that cruise ship has fractured in every direction. Anna Kepner's father — Christopher Kepner, married to the defendant's mother — is publicly calling for his own stepson to be locked up. The defendant's biological father has filed competing custody petitions, with abuse allegations surfacing in the filings. The ex-boyfriend's family says they tried to warn people about concerning behavior before the cruise ever sailed. And the sixteen-year-old at the center of it all is living with a relative, wearing a GPS monitor, recently cleared to work at his father's landscaping business. This look back sits with the family dynamic that will shape every phase of this case.

Timothy Hudson faces first-degree murder and an additional serious federal charge in the death of his eighteen-year-old stepsister aboard the Carnival Horizon. He pleaded not guilty via a written filing — his attorney submitted a one-page document while Hudson stayed home. The prosecution has turned over the full evidence file, including the autopsy, body cam footage, and a cellphone extraction from a phone identified by initials matching the victim's father. Prosecutors estimate a seven-day trial.

Defense attorney and former prosecutor Eric Faddis breaks down what the defense moves signal, what the "C.K." phone extraction tells you about the investigation's reach, and the question hanging over everything: if you were a prosecutor watching this defense team operate, what would concern you most heading into trial? The detention fight is pending. Accountability is still just a word on a court docket. We revisit where the case stood at the time of our reporting.

  • What Happened To Anna Kepner In That Cabin On The Carnival Horizon?

Anna Kepner was eighteen years old. A cheerleader from Titusville, Florida, with plans to join the Navy. She was on a family cruise aboard the Carnival Horizon — a trip that was supposed to be a vacation — when she was found dead in a shared cabin on November 7, 2025. Her body was reportedly concealed under a bed, wrapped in a blanket, covered with life jackets. The Miami-Dade Medical Examiner determined the cause of death: mechanical asphyxiation. Her sixteen-year-old stepbrother has been charged as an adult with first-degree murder and an additional serious federal charge. He has pleaded not guilty.

This look back examines what the reported evidence shows and the family torn apart by what happened. Security cameras showed the defendant as the only person entering and exiting the stateroom during the window investigators believe Anna died. Her younger sibling was outside the cabin and reportedly heard violent sounds from inside. The defendant reportedly told people afterward that he couldn't remember anything. An ex-boyfriend of Anna's has alleged he previously witnessed concerning behavior by the defendant toward her.

The family dynamic is devastating. Anna's father — married to the defendant's mother — is publicly calling for justice against his own stepson. Competing custody filings between the defendant's biological parents have surfaced abuse allegations. The defendant remains free on GPS monitoring with a relative despite prosecution arguments for detention. Defense attorney and former prosecutor Eric Faddis breaks down the indictment, the release decision, and the fractured family that will shape every phase of what comes next. Trial is set for the fall. We revisit where the case stood at the time of our reporting.
