  1. Number 1: What Happened Inside Anna Kepner's Cabin That Night?

She was eighteen years old, weeks from graduation, planning to join the Navy. Anna Kepner didn't want to go on the family cruise. She went anyway. She never made it home. Security cameras aboard the Carnival Horizon allegedly captured one person entering and exiting Anna's stateroom that night. Her younger brother was reportedly outside the cabin and heard violent sounds coming from inside. The next morning, Anna's body was found concealed beneath the bed — wrapped in a blanket, covered in life vests. The medical examiner ruled her death a homicide by mechanical asphyxiation. The person accused of taking Anna's life is her sixteen-year-old stepbrother, Timothy Hudson. He now faces federal charges of first-degree murder and aggravated sexual abuse after a grand jury indictment shattered the early narrative that this was a death without evidence of assault. Hudson has pleaded not guilty. He is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law. This podcast is the definitive source for everything surrounding Anna Kepner's case — from the family dynamics and the alleged warning signs that preceded the cruise, to the sealed juvenile proceedings that kept the public in the dark for months, to the rare federal decision to prosecute a minor as an adult, to the trial that will determine whether Hudson spends the rest of his life in a federal prison. Before the indictment, there were red flags. An ex-boyfriend's father has alleged he witnessed Hudson attempt to climb on top of Anna during a FaceTime call. He described Anna as reportedly frightened of her stepbrother, who allegedly always carried a large knife and appeared fixated on her. Anna's father Christopher Kepner had married Hudson's mother just months before the cruise — a trip that was supposed to bring a blended family together. This is the case the true crime world cannot look away from. And we've been covering it from day one. 2. Number 2: Anna Kepner Case: Shauntel Went to Court for WHAT?!

Anna Kepner’s cruise ship murder case has another court record pulling the Hudson and Kepner families back into the same story. Shauntel Hudson is seeking child support from her ex-husband, Thomas Hudson, as their son Timothy Hudson remains in federal custody awaiting trial. Shauntel alleges Thomas missed multiple months of court-ordered support, and her filing says the original amount was $2,129 a month for three children. The amount later fell to $1,092 as fewer children remained covered. She also wants the court to review the amount because she believes Thomas earns substantially more. Thomas disputes both points, and the judge has not ruled. A separate federal filing shows why the family conflict matters to Timothy’s defense team. His lawyers told Judge Beth Bloom that limited access to certain relatives has made their investigation harder. Because Timothy was 16 when Anna died, the defense is also preparing for a Miller hearing, where a judge considers a juvenile defendant’s upbringing and other personal history before life without parole can be imposed. Bloom granted the defense request to delay trial after prosecutors did not oppose it. The trial is set to begin November 2, 2026, with October 23 as the deadline for any plea agreement. Timothy has pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder and a second serious federal charge tied to Anna’s death aboard the Carnival Horizon. The child-support petition is separate from the criminal charges. It documents another fight among the people whose history and cooperation may matter to the defense. The next federal deadline will test whether Timothy’s lawyers can complete that family investigation before they have to choose between a plea resolution and trial. 3. Number 3: Anna Kepner Cruise Ship Murder: What His Mom Filed Eight Weeks Out

Thomas Hudson went to court before the Carnival Horizon ever left the dock. His contempt motion accused Shauntel of withholding their children and refusing him his court-ordered parenting time. His lawyer asked for 140 make-up days — custody exchanges she’d allegedly blocked. Then Anna Kepner was found dead in a cabin his son shared with her on a cruise Thomas says he never approved. Now Thomas is carrying the cost of his son’s federal murder defense while Shauntel files a child support petition claiming he owes her money. According to court documents, she alleges he missed several months of payments and wants a judge to order him to pay more. Thomas denied every claim. The original order was $2,129 for three kids. One aged out. Timothy went to federal detention. The amount sits at $1,092 for the couple’s nine-year-old daughter — the child Thomas has been trying to get custody of since November 2025. His February 2026 emergency petition argued that a nine-year-old should not be living with her stepfather where her brother stands accused of killing the stepfather’s daughter. When Anna’s body was found, Thomas offered to come get the girl immediately. Shauntel declined and cited DCF involvement. Christopher Kepner — Anna’s father and Shauntel’s current husband — told reporters he wanted Timothy in “orange jumpsuit and handcuffs.” That’s the household Thomas is trying to remove his daughter from. Thomas appears to be the only parent cooperating with Timothy’s defense. The court filings he entered into the record — the texts, the custody exchanges, the timeline of who said what and when — are the reason the public knows what happened inside this family after Anna died. The other side has invoked the Fifth. Listen Anywhere You Get Podcasts: https://pod.link/1655749292 Want to comment and watch this podcast as a video? 4. Number 4: What Did The FBI Find On The Carnival Horizon After Anna Kepner Was Killed?

The crime scene was a cruise ship. It sailed into port the morning after Anna Kepner was found dead. Thousands of passengers disembarked. The vessel was cleaned and prepared for its next voyage. And somewhere in that window, FBI investigators had to recover everything they could from a stateroom, a ship's surveillance system, and a population that was about to scatter across the country. This look back, with retired FBI Special Agent Jennifer Coffindaffer, examines what they found — and what building a case at sea actually looks like. Unsealed court records describe security footage tracking Timothy Hudson's movements the night Anna died. A cellular phone that ended up smashed in a trash bin. DNA testing that points in one direction. Anna was found concealed beneath a bed — wrapped in a blanket, covered with life jackets, cause of death mechanical asphyxiation — in the stateroom she shared with her sixteen-year-old stepbrother. Ship surveillance reportedly shows one person entering and exiting. Coffindaffer reads the evidence from the perspective of someone who spent a career handing cases to prosecutors — and gives her honest assessment of watching a defendant facing charges this serious get sent home on GPS monitoring after the judge acknowledged an adult would be detained. Hudson is living with a relative in a home that reportedly includes two other minors, despite release conditions prohibiting unsupervised contact with anyone underage. He faces first-degree murder and an additional serious federal charge. He has pleaded not guilty. We revisit where the case stood at the time of our reporting. 5. Number 5: Anna Kepner Case: What The Defense Strategy Is Really Telling Us

A not guilty plea filed on paper. A defendant who never stepped foot in the courtroom for his own arraignment. A defense team that didn't just accept adult prosecution — they requested it in writing. And a judge assignment that may not be a coincidence. Every move Timothy Hudson's defense has made in the federal murder case surrounding Anna Kepner's death aboard the Carnival Horizon tells you something — if you know what to look for. Former prosecutor and defense attorney Eric Faddis does. He joins Tony Brueski to break down what's really happening behind the procedural filings, and why anyone paying close attention to this case should be reading between the lines. This episode walks through the waived arraignment and what a defense team signals by keeping their client out of a federal courtroom. It examines why the defense actively pursued adult transfer rather than fighting it — and what strategic calculation may be driving that decision. It looks at the judge now presiding over this case, the same judge who granted Hudson's release conditions back in February, and whether that continuity is working in the defense's favor. It unpacks the prosecution's estimated seven-day trial window and what that timeline suggests about the weight of evidence they plan to present. And it raises a question that hasn't gotten enough attention — the "C.K." cellphone data extraction referenced in filings, which appears to involve data pulled from Anna Kepner's own father's phone, and what that could mean for the defense's approach at trial. Eric Faddis has sat on both sides of a federal courtroom. He knows what confidence looks like in a defense strategy — and he knows what quiet concern looks like from the prosecution's chair. He identifies the one thing about this defense team's approach that should genuinely worry the government heading into a June trial. Timothy Hudson is charged with first-degree murder and aggravated sexual abuse in the death of his eighteen-year-old stepsister. He has pleaded not guilty and is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law. Subscribe wherever you get your podcasts. New episodes daily.
