The Beaman Monster is a legendary cryptid that has been a part of the folklore of Sedalia, Missouri, for generations. According to legend, it is the offspring of a 12-foot-tall gorilla that escaped from a circus train that crashed near Beaman, Missouri, in the early 1900s. Encounters with the creature have been reported up to this decade. The creature is said to be a large, hairy, bipedal animal that resembles a wolf or coyote, potentially a kind of hybrid between Bigfoot and a wolf. Some who have seen it claim it has a wolfish face which is terrifyingly too human. This terrifying creature has been sighted killing livestock and leaving very large tracks, with a stride too far apart for the normal human stride. A posse gathered for a hunt in the late 1950’s, “by people carrying all sorts of shotguns to catch the Beaman Monster.”

The Henrico Werewolf is a local legend that has been reported for over a century in one of the most populated counties in Virginia. This tall wolf-like creature with grayish-white fur and often seen near the Confederate Hills Recreation Center along the James River. Many residents have reported seeing and hearing the howls of this violent creature. Some believe it is not a werewolf, but possibly a Bigfoot. Others believe the sightings are part of an elaborate hoax by local teenagers. On this episode of “A Glitch in the Matrix,” Bruce Brown joins Jessica to discuss the most terrifying real-life creatures lurking in the shadows of East Tennessee’s Smoky Mountains, particularly in what locals refer to as “Pitty Pat Hollow.” A creature has haunted that area since the late 1860s, with the first reported account including an overturned horse-drawn carriage accident and the kidnapping of the child on-board by what has become known as the pitty-pat.

Most people who have seen the pitty-pat describe it as a creature having cat-like features, while some refer to it as the spirit of a young woman. Nonetheless, dreaded apparitions and flesh-and-bone creatures haunt this heavily wooded region, striking terror into locals and travelers to this day. Jessica and Bruce discuss the history of this area in Tennessee, along with the encounters with the pitty-pat, and much more! They also explore the rare opportunity to witness three major celestial events within 24 hours on this day, making it one of the most remarkable skywatching days of the year!

Bruce is a former law enforcement officer from Tennessee who has had multiple intense Dogman encounters. He served as a patrolman, deputy sheriff, sergeant, sergeant of patrols, detective and chief of narcotics. He professional background exposed him to calls on Bigfoot and Dogman encounters, and he knows the protocols for how those cases were handled and potentially covered up and how the military often gets involved.

Bruce first encountered a Dogman while hunting, observing it from a tree stand. A couple of years later, he had an intense encounter while ginseng hunting and got a very detailed look at what he believed was a Dogman or werewolf that eventually followed him home. After multiple other encounters with these creatures, he came face-to-face with a small, injured Dogman pup, even picking it up and giving it a thorough examination.

On this episode, Jessica goes "On the Hunt" with cryptid field investigator Greg Smith of Backwoods Cryptids to discuss Dogman and werewolf reports in his research area of North Georgia and Southern Tennessee. Greg reveals his discovery of the origin of the infamous “Old Green Eyes” of Chickamauga based off his research!

Greg Smith grew up in the backwoods of the small Northwestern Georgia town of Chickamauga. He was raised on hunting and fishing, so he was always out in the woods. Greg developed an interest in cryptids thanks to the old TV show Unsolved Mysteries which would show the segments about unknown creatures like Bigfoot, Mothman, and other creatures which got him hooked on cryptozoology. He would watch and read anything he could find on the subject. Upon gaining access to the internet, he was opened to the world of Cryptids and by this time, there were many more shows on the subject. The show Mountain Monsters inspired Greg to begin doing his own boots-on-the-ground field research. He figured that if those men were in the woods looking for cryptids, then he could do it, too.

After some years he was weaponed up and mobile and Backwoods Cryptids began. Greg gave his research team its name because he’s “a backwoods son of a b**** and is out there in the woods looking for cryptid creatures.” For Greg, it has been a great and fun ride ever since he met and became friends with some amazing people with similar interests. The Kelpie is a shapeshifting aquatic cryptid from rivers and lochs in Scotland and Ireland. It is described as strong and as powerful as a horse, appearing often as a lost pony, and seen with a dripping wet mane and tail. Its skin is like that of a seal, smooth and cold to the touch. Kelpies can transform into a beautiful woman, able to lure men into the water, creating illusions to keep themselves hidden, with only their eyes above the water to scout the surface.

The water horse is a common form of the Kelpie, said to lure humans into the water to drown them. It hangs out at its killing pools, acting as a tame horse, encouraging people to ride on its back, and once its victims fall into its trap, the water horse's skin becomes adhesive and the horse takes the victim into the river, dragging them to the bottom of the water and devouring them - except the heart or liver. Legends of the Kelpie carry one major warning: Do not go near them. But is there truth to their existence? Barry Littleton tasked Jessica with the coordinate remote viewing target of the Kelpie and they discuss the incredible data here!

Rob Effler is from Western North Carolina. In 2023, he started North Carolina Investigates with co-founder George Lunsford. Prior to that, in 2007, he was the founder of GoDark Paranormal Investigations. In 2012, he started to receive reports of Sasquatch sightings in his area of North Carolina. That came as quite a surprise to him, because, up until then, he thought Sasquatch were only in the Pacific Northwest. Little did he know, it wouldn’t be long that he’d see how wrong he was about that. He’s had at least five Sasquatch sightings over the years.

Rob is the co-host of NCI North Carolina Investigates podcast on YouTube, along with his research teammates. He also produces and co-hosts “Grandpa’s Old Haint Tales,” on the NCI YouTube channel.
