On this episode, Jessica explores the “Not Deer” of the Appalachian Mountains. A Not Deer is what appears to be a deer, but it’s not quite a deer. At first glance, it looks like a deer, but upon further investigation, something is off about its behavior and anatomy. They often move like a newborn deer with extra-long legs, and some appear double-jointed. Their eyes sit towards the front of their head like a predator instead of on the sides like typical deer. Not Deers are not typically afraid of humans. Some report an uneasy feeling that there is an intelligence and emotion about them that shows that something is off about the creatures. They’re known to walk on two legs and will chase people if provoked.

Tales of Not Deer encounters range from hunters and hikers coming face to face with them in the woods to Not Deers peeking in windows of homes in the Appalachians. Are these Not Deer merely deformed or diseased deer or could they be a Skinwalker or something else? We can add the Not Deer to the list of creepy Appalachian cryptids.

On this episode, Jessica goes "On the Hunt" with cryptid field investigator Greg Smith of Backwoods Cryptids to discuss recent Dogman and werewolf reports in his research area of North Georgia.

Greg Smith grew up in the backwoods of the small Northwestern Georgia town of Chickamauga. He was raised on hunting and fishing, so he was always out in the woods. Greg developed an interest in cryptids thanks to the old TV show Unsolved Mysteries which would show the segments about unknown creatures like Bigfoot, Mothman, and other creatures which got him hooked on cryptozoology. He would watch and read anything he could find on the subject. Upon gaining access to the internet, he was opened to the world of Cryptids and by this time, there were many more shows on the subject. The show Mountain Monsters inspired Greg to begin doing his own boots-on-the-ground field research. He figured that if those men were in the woods looking for cryptids, then he could do it, too.

After some years he was weaponed up and mobile and Backwoods Cryptids began. Greg gave his research team its name because he’s “a backwoods son of a b**** and is out there in the woods looking for cryptid creatures.” For Greg, it has been a great and fun ride ever since he met and became friends with some amazing people with similar interests. In a dense, isolated inhospitable land in Ireland known as Ossory, huge deadly wolves were said to roam and stalk the woods at night. The land had a dangerous reputation, and no one lived in Ossory until a clan of barbaric warriors came from faraway lands and were said to have made a pact with the wolves. They had the ability to shapeshift into wolves and were known to attack at night with brutal force, mutilating bodies, kidnapping children, and burning lands in massacres. They were seen dancing and howling in the moonlight, after attacking cattle and livestock and eating their raw flesh. They wore the skins of wolves, smeared blood on their bodies, and ran on all fours.

The most famous legend cites the warrior Laignech Fáelad, considered the original werewolf from whom the others descended. One story recounts a priest's encounter with a werewolf, who asks for his help in breaking the curse upon his clan. It is said that St. Patrick managed to convert part of the clan, freeing them from lycanthropy, while other werewolves continued fighting against English invaders. Were the tales of the Ossory werewolves just legends and lore, or is there truth behind this long-lived tale? Jessica was tasked with Laignech Faelad and the Ossory Werewolves as coordinate remote viewing targets and reveals the data here with Author E.D. Testerman.

The uncanny valley is a theory in aesthetics suggesting a humanoid object appearing almost, but not exactly, like a real human can evoke feelings of eeriness or revulsion, rather than familiarity, due to the object’s proximity to reality yet noticeable imperfections. . Examples of the phenomenon exist among robotics, 3D computer animations and lifelike dolls. When we encounter something or someone who seems a bit off, discomfort sets in, manifesting as an unsettling feeling in the pit of our stomachs. It’s a reaction born from the clash between expectation and reality, a psychological response to an almost-human entity falling short of complete authenticity.

The North American Dogman Project had an alarming string of strange werewolf sightings that surged throughout the year in 2023 all across the state of Georgia. Most reports were merely sightings, but one case involves an entire North Georgia family and a young boy who was grabbed as his family ran from a 7-9’ tall creature on their wooded property. After the father shot the beast, their family was stalked by a pack of what appeared to be Dogmen or werewolves for hours that night.

Over the past 170 years, schools across the United States and the world have been targeted and visited by UFOs. In most cases, the spacecrafts hover for long periods at extremely low elevation, often landing next to the school. Humanoids are often seen.
