Welcome to the podcast everybody! We have a doozy for you today! Is that how it’s spelled? Doozy. Doozie. Lumie. Loomie. I don’t know. Everything has a spelling, at the end of the day, which is quite funny. But some words have even MORE of a spelling. Words like “schadenfreude”! Which, believe it or not, we will get into on today’s show. Because it is (pinch, punch, the first of the month and no returns!) Thursday October the 1st 2026 and you know what that means! Its CCCAH day! And its everyone lambast Manchester City day too, apparently so, as the legendary Penny Lane in Almost Famous once said: “it’s all happening”! It really is. Season 7. Episode 23. Lets fucking go. Lock in. Everyone get your fingers hovering above your “let’s start the show” buttons!

Anyway, I can’t believe we’re doing this episode but we are and now that it is in your ears I hope you are as happy with it as I am. The beauty of the show really. Something (potentially, who knows, no spoilers, lol, etc) that I may not have necessarily looked forward to THE MOST EVER becomes a podcast I VERY MUCH LOOKED FORWARD TO and now I am here like yeah ok … much like The Real Rooneys Season 1 Episode 1 … Season 7 Episode 23 of the Cultural Content Consumption Appraisal Hour is … something that exists, I suppose. Yes. Now let’s get pissed!

Tomorrow is Dolly Day! That’s right. Friday the 25th of September. And we’re honouring her spirit today by reviewing the movie 9 to 5: https://www.netflix.com/watch/60010717

What a wonderful spirit the star of the movie and singer/writer of the song had. What a life well lived. If only she had known that her posthumous legacy would include AN EP OF THE CCCAH. Jeez. A crowning achievement up there with the Imagination Library and Dollyland! We’re honouring all sorts of stuff today, really. The 80s. The workspace. Big mainstream comedies. Riding the middle hour wave. You know. We do all your favourite pod bits. Long diatribes about what other awards are on offer if you have lost the regular season! And of course … another week without any kind of infographic. We could make an infographic with just that stat. At this point: 194 episodes and no infographics! But hey, let’s figure out what other made-up shit Christopher could play for, eh? How are them off-points looking? And hey, you know what they say? Friendship is a kind of payment. So pay up big boy! HOUNDS OF LOVE BY KATE BUSH: Reviewed!

If only could … make a deal with POD! I’d get him to swap our places.

Cos then you’d have Christopher on the thumbnails and shownotes and Jeffrey on the production end! Hahahaha! Trust me, Christopher could whip up a pic and some words but Jeffrey might struggle with conjuring the pristine audio experience Christopher likes to cook up in the kitchen for all of y’all week in and week out, even when some of the ingredients he gets are not ideal … this week’s recording notwithstanding! Wink wink nudge nudge.

But back to what we’re doing today. ALBUM CLUB IS BACK BABY! And we have arrived at our Kate Bush season. Kate Bush is announcing the end of Summer. Kate Bush is announcing the beginning of Autumn. Kate Bush is announcing … the beginning of our Kate Bush era!! Well, at least for one of us … ! We may not always collectively adore and connect with every album we study on album club (because truly, whether we accumulate 8 listens or 20+ plus, we are out here in our real lives studying! While we tidy the house or go for runs, but still!!) but we will always try to learn something from what we listen to. Which is kind of the journey we’re on with this podcast generally. Learning and growing in good company. The dream! And hey, sometimes we can get stuck in a rut and sometimes we’ll enjoy a massive eye and mind-opening moment. Such is life. But with music in particular, we just love the album form. We grew up with it and refuse to let it die. And so to whoever’s album we are listening to, we guarantee we will give it ample time and the special kind of precious attention that musicians can (hopefully!) still muster in our attention-starved and algorithmically ruled world.

Now Kate is famously a world class yearner and today so are we folks. We yearn for a beautiful spin-off show that we release monthly … no … quarterly/seasonally … no biannually … basis! With like the BEST audio too. That will clearly be in the Patreon era. Imagine just handing that over for free lol. For now, in the low stakes back-end of Season 7 … let’s just stick to album clubs being an EVERY NOW AND AGAIN affair.

THE THICK OF IT PILOT: Reviewed! 

Another hour full of all sorts of shit. Two guys saying things to each other and/or at each other. Folding iPhones and all sorts. Siri tries to butt in, as she often does. The cold open gets sweary. Very a guy just watched the pilot of The Thick Of It and Malcolm Tucker is his new spirit animal. We both give main character energy on this episode because we’re both very excited about the 21 year old pilot of The Thick Of It. Politics has outpaced satire by the year 2026 and AI is days away from killing us all (see the tweet of the week for more) but hey, until then let us reminisce about the halcyon days of the 2000s when an announcement about how there is no announcement could theoretically be your downfall as a public figure. Not nearly as many sidebars or side quests to speak of on today’s episode so I guess we’re sneaking them all into the shownotes hehe. 

We might sometimes argue and annoy each other but hey, we don’t chat shit about each other nearly as much as the characters on The Thick Of It do! And at least we’re here for you and each other each and every week. With our very different personalities. We’re very differently flavoured douchebags but yes douchebags nonetheless. *Your* douchebags.  

But yes. As S07 winds down (and, potentially, the competitive stakes!) we are back in our bog standard era. No more footie, movies or the 80s! Pilot season. Pilots forever. Pilots always. We have a plan! We have a vision. Whether it is to get famous, “podcast famous” (very different to regular famous), play Wembley, Trinity or even the Rivoli … rest assured … we have a plan. And this episode might not exactly provide spoilers for how we’re going to parlay this podcast lark into a movie eventually but it is a skeleton key of sorts for this eventual phoenix-like transformation we will one day experience.

MOURINHO EPISODE 1: Reviewed! 

We’re sorry! Because we’re NOT a football podcast and the world cup is LONG GONE and yet … here we are again! We are honestly kind of confused. A Chelsea fan and a Manchester United fan started a podcast about culture a few years ago but sometimes … football just gets a hold of us! It’s a lot! It is childhood and nostalgia and the art of the sport and the soap opera and characters and drama of it all. It is storytelling! It is dudes hanging out with the apparatus of a game to justify it … hmm sounds just like this podcast I d̶o̶ enjoy. 

I know that as much as we are a competitive game-show at heart … we are lovers, not fighters! So why do we keep interrupting the summer of love with all this fussing and feuding and football!! Well variety is the spice of life isn’t it, much like Variety Video was once the spice of North Harrow high street. And that is what you come to us for really, whether you know it or not: every week is an unexpected shout. We’ll go from weeks of lovey dovey stuff to something crazy, a magazine to the Grammys (still a few months left of 2026 from what I can tell!), a short story to a documentary about artists! It’s everything. How haven’t we reviewed an art exhibition yet? A play? Surely we will eventually cover every inch of the artistic tapestry that is our culture. Or as Homer Simpson once said: “Marge, please! I enjoy all the meats of our cultural stew.”

OFFICE ROMANCE: Reviewed!

Much like Proust’s madeleine (bear with me here) Christopher’s Huel meal really opened up an entire world of thought for us during the cold open today. Stay tuned for Christopher’s secret tidbit that might save you on a future delayed journey from Victoria station. Perhaps if Brett had included the differences in US and UK attitudes towards pints of ice water … one of us would have been more on board with today’s film! And to be fair to the makers of this film: we also don’t know if we are making a podcast or making fun of podcasts some days. It’s a fine line. For example, once upon a time we had a standard issue cold open segment. Now it's a behemoth! So much discourse before we even get to the 30 second game!

On today’s world famous 30 second game (the cold open game during which, as those who are not new to this but true to this know best: we pitch a content-based improv game to the person we pitched the content to, during which they will be explaining what the podcast is all about … gosh we need a 30 second game for the 30 second game!) the fellas re-enacted the famous rom-com trope of the WAIT TAKE ME BACK scene at the end of a lot of our favourite rom coms, whether they’re AIRPORT based or AIRLINE SHE E O (shout out) based. So the boys did their rom com homage. And Jeffrey won back Christopher. At least thoroughly and romantically enough to get through the episode. We’ll see how the *will they won’t they* of it all progresses throughout the rest of season 7. Maybe one day we can do a season on clay Christopher. And hey. Maybe clay means Patreon. Who’s to know, eh?

FERRIS BUELLER’S DAY OFF: Reviewed! 

We never have a week off at CCCAHHQ, let alone a day off! We’re out here grinding! Week in and week out. No long winded excuses and elaborate ruses needed! Just every Thursday … here for you. Audio. Pretty good. Thumbnail. Low budget. Show title. Lol. And show notes. Long. 

Except for that one time I forgot to do shownotes (or was it two times … three?) and Christopher texted me a sad face emoji in the morning and I was all like “sorry I was asleep” or something. Not the most well-thought out plan there. I guess … life just came at me pretty fast!

You know, I think I’m gonna recommend saying this famous line from F B’s D O to the camera of your life as often as possible. In a motivational-coach manifesting mantra kind of way. Interior monologues are great but let’s all try this together shall we, something we (especially one of us!) loves doing on the programme and advocating for generally: yapping and yapping! We’re a bunch of dapper yappers here ladies and gentleme. So let’s do it … three, two, one *turns to the camera and/or microphone*: “The CCCAH moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and listen once in a while, you could miss it."

Now whether you are popping your Ferris cherry with Christopher or a Day Off veteran like Jeffrey, we have to remind you of something that has almost become a guaranteed given on every episode of the podcast … this is not a safe space for spoilers! We mainly do nothing but spoil, actually, come to think of it. We’re the SPOILER PODCAST!!! We hope this can align with and compliment your media consumption diet regardless.

(500) Days of Summer: reviewed!

*Richard McGonagle Voiceover voice* The boys had been enjoying doing their podcast for a couple of years by the time it got to episode 17 of Season 7 … it was a close call who would win. And as they say, it’s not a competition … but then again … *zoom in to see a bead of sweat running down Christopher’s face* … everything is!

IT’S MOVIE SEASON BABY! None of these are SPECIALS and yet … every episode is SPECIAL in its own way, wouldn’t you say? We hope you enjoy 2 old men doing the WAIT, THIS ACTOR WAS IN WHAT FILM game for most of today’s opening. We’ll save you the trouble of screaming … yes, we were talking about the actor Dominic Sessa. And no, we didn’t name him lol. And thankfully, we don’t like all the same bizarro shit … or else this wouldn’t be that fun a pod, now would it?

I would like to declare today’s episode a not-very-safe-space for spoilers. If you would like to experience this movie free of our RAMBLING TAKES clogging up your brainwaves: it is worth an initial spoiler-free watch before rejoining the chat/giving this ep a listen. 

Here in the furnace of CCCAH coded fun-and-matey-banter, we hone our opinions as per. It’s like an opinion workshop sometimes, this podcast. We get into it. All of it. We hope you enjoy our tangents and manage to follow the two streams of consciousness at work. And don’t forget, for those of you considering following your dreams … what if your dream was running a greeting-card company like Vance (played by Clark Gregg). Or producing a little podcast? Don’t tell anyone you’re dreaming too big but also … don’t let anyone tell you you’re dreaming too small! Find a dream that works for you. Might be nice to dream a dream you can make come true! Keep dreaming and keep scheming! 500 days of Tom was more than enough for me but I fear 1,309 of the CCCAH might be enough for you guys too! *looks straight at the camera*

DIRTY DANCING: Reviewed! 

I can’t believe it but after another week of edging the listenership with aniticipation we’re here again for another week in the Cultural Content Consumption Appraisal Hour Universe (the CCCAHU) and we’re talking about how grateful you should all be for it! It’s like clockwork. Thursday mornings without a break EVER. “It’s Thursday and you know what that means” vibes for the indefinite future! You all won’t know how good you had it until Christopher and I are chatting shit about each other on our separate podcasts, The Rag Tag Rambling Gambling Groovy Booty Show with Jeffrey Bahlo and the Good Production Quality show with Christopher Anousis. But hey, until then, let’s stay present and appreciate where we are and acknowledge … that we are on a movie streak baby! 

We are going from strength to strength in this summer of dance, drama and romance! We are reviewing Dirty Dancing today. A movie that is not from 1989. Or 1988. But … yep … you guessed it … Christopher’s 1987. Wow. Well, we’re eighties babies with nineties hearts I guess. So let’s keep the 2020s podcasting going. The reviewing. The side-bar swerving. The guessing. The scoring. The off-point accumulating. The pitching. The faff, the guff and the malarkey: the holy trinity of vibes that comes with yammering on and on with your bestie on a little-known podcast hiding in the vast unknown expanse of the internet for years on end. We love it. We hope you do too.
