Welcome to this episode of The Curious Midlife podcast. Today, Julie guides us on how to be 360 degrees strong and its benefits to unleash our fitness and strength regardless of age and gender. She will also share why training matters and its effects on other aspects of our life.
360 Degrees Strong
[4:54]
Since we enjoy doing things we're good at, most people don't train. However, it is outside of the comfort zone that growth occurs. We get to test our limits at that point. However, the environment in which we want to conduct this exploration must also make us feel safe.
[7:39]
Your best ally is fear. To know if something is worth listening to, you must become friends with it.
Where Training Matters
[9:24]
There is no time for you to stop and warm up when you're in an emergency situation. You’ll need to be prepared at that moment and do all sorts of things to be safe. That's when the training matters.
[10:18]
We enjoy practising our strengths. But it's also very beneficial to begin to take pleasure in the things you are truly bad at. Because the things you are bad at will make up the gaps.
Enjoy Sleeping
[15:13]
Sleep is amazing. It is the foundation. It’s when you reset and rebuild. So at 53, Julie needs to find a balance because she enjoys playing and enjoying her movement.
Value of Transition and Skill Acquisition
[21:50]
The benefit of transformation and skill development is that you can use them in other areas of your life. For instance, you might be afraid of breaking the jump. It's not necessary to jump. It's just a phrase that suggests overcoming a challenge through mental, physical, emotional, and possibly even imaginative means.
Showing up For Yourself
[23:56]
Being strong in all directions helps you stay safe because you can always keep in touch with your nervous system to check in and see how you're doing. Additionally, when your nervous system is relaxed and you are primarily operating in a safe environment, your range of motion is increased, giving you access to your strength and fitness.
Celebrate
[27:23]
Normally, no one celebrates the small things they do, but Julie does. And so she wants you to celebrate as well. Celebrate those small and micro things you’ve achieved because all those are involved for you to be 360 degrees strong.
