  • NASA will spend $20 billion to build a base on the moon

Give today and receive your copy of Dr. Jim Denison’s Biblical Insight into Tough Questions vol 5

NASA has announced plans to construct a $20 billion base on the moon’s surface. The purpose is to install more powerful telescopes, mine elements that are rare on earth but abundant on the moon, and allow for further technological advancements through residual inventions, just as it was after our last trip to the moon in 1972. There is something in us that wants to make an impact in life that surpasses and outlives us. You and I are unlikely to seek such significance through space travel, but we can nonetheless live this day for its highest purpose. How can we do this?

  • What is the greatest obstacle to peace in Iran?

We’re learning this morning that the US has sent Iran a fifteen-point plan to end the war in the Middle East. However, Israeli journalist Amit Segal reports that Israeli leaders fear the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) will undermine any agreement with the West. Yesterday’s announcement that Mohammad Bagher Zolghadr, a former IRGC commander, will replace the slain Ali Larijani as head of the country’s security council reinforces their fears. Why would the IRGC want to continue fighting a war that is so devastating to their nation?

  • California city council advances polyamory protections

According to the Los Angeles Times, West Hollywood’s city council has unanimously approved advancing what the article calls a “registry of multi-partner domestic relationships.” How does this affect you and me in our own lives? It is human nature to focus on issues that seem most relevant to us personally. This “fight-or-flight response” is our natural, automatic reaction to stress or danger. Jane Goodall, the famed British primatologist and animal rights activist, once warned that “the greatest danger to our future is apathy.” Today, we discuss three reasons to oppose moral apathy through a legal, personal, and collective lens.

  • Both pilots killed after jet hits fire truck at LaGuardia

Both pilots were killed and dozens of people were injured late last night when an Air Canada Express jet collided with a fire truck while landing at New York’s LaGuardia Airport. Earlier in the day, I received news that my spiritual mother had passed away. Some deaths are tragic while others are cause for gratitude, but all grief makes us bear its weight in some way for the rest of our lives. In our “increasingly complicated, technology-dominated, and endlessly distracting world,” people are “shoved to the left side of their brains,” focused on what is practical but “bereft of mystery and meaning.” Today, we explore how God redeems all he allows, using even our grief as a gateway into a life of purpose.

  • Is AI a tool for the Antichrist? The problem with Peter Thiel’s take on the end times

Peter Thiel is drawing attention for hosting a Rome conference warning that technologies like AI could help usher in the Antichrist, even as critics accuse him of fueling fear around the end times. While concerns about global instability, war, and innovation are real, Scripture reminds us that “many antichrists have come” and that speculation about who the Antichrist might be is largely fruitless. Jesus instead pointed to “wars and rumors of wars” not to make us afraid, but so that we would not be. In the end, whether the world stabilizes or Christ returns, we are called to live with confidence that God is in control and to keep our focus on helping others know him.

  • Dick Van Dyke and scientists tell us how to live longer

The legendary actor and comedian Dick Van Dyke recently became a centenarian. He explains his longevity simply: he keeps a positive outlook and never gets angry. Scientists agree with his theory. However, you and I didn’t need scientists to tell us what we innately understood, that happier people are typically healthier people. If only knowing and doing God’s will were so obvious and intuitive. In Psalm 77:19, Asaph prays, “Your way was through the sea, your path through the great waters; yet your footprints were unseen.” It is one thing to follow someone whose “footprints” are obvious to us. It is another to follow someone we cannot see, trusting that their word is true and their will is best, before we can verify either.

  • Man accused of crucifying pastor asks for death penalty: Trusting God when we suffer because we trust God

In April 2025, Pastor William Schonemann of New River Bible Chapel in Arizona was found dead inside his home in a position authorities described as resembling crucifixion. Last week, the man accused of killing the pastor asked a court to sentence him to death. He stated, “It’s an undisputable fact that the crime was heinous in nature. I intended it to be heinous.” Our faith does not exempt us from living in a fallen world, but when we suffer because we are believers, we can especially question the reality and relevance of our faith. It feels grossly unfair for God to call us to follow and serve him, then allow us to be persecuted for obeying his call. However, it is also such suffering that affords us an opportunity to know and honor our Lord in ways we cannot otherwise.

  • How could the Iran war go global? The law of unintended consequences and the wisdom of St. Patrick

Israel’s defense minister announced this morning that its military killed top Iranian security official Ali Larijani in an overnight strike. In other news, the US embassy in Baghdad has been targeted by explosive drones, British Airways says it is suspending some flights to the Middle East until the end of May, and US gas prices are continuing to rise as a result of the war.

However, much of the focus today is on a narrow waterway that is central to the global economy.

  • One Battle After Another wins Oscar for Best Picture: What do movies tell us about ourselves?

“One Battle After Another” won the Academy Award for Best Picture last night, along with five other Oscars. The awards show prompted some reflections for me, which have less to do with the films themselves than with the experience of watching them. The best movies are often the most surprising, the ones with a plot twist we did not foresee, films that convey an unanticipated message that nonetheless resonates with life. The best journeys in life, similarly, occur on the paths we least expected God to call us to travel. When you pursue your Father’s purpose, your life becomes a “motion picture” in which the scenes you “film” today are part of a story you are telling the world. The key, as a wise mentor once taught me, is to stay faithful to the last word you heard from God and open to the next.

  • While the US considers a “friendly takeover,” God is already at work in Cuba

While the Trump Administration’s focus remains largely on the war in Iran, the president took some time earlier this week to address the situation with Cuba as well. Hinting that they may be next in line for regime change, he stated, “It may be a friendly takeover, it may not be a friendly takeover. It wouldn’t matter because they’re really, they’re down to, as I say, fumes.” Until a deal is reached, it’s crucial that we don’t lose sight of the plight of Cuba’s citizens as we consider the broader negotiations between governments. However, as is often the case, God is already at work through his people in ways that are making a genuine difference in the lives of those in need.
