A forty-six-year-old man was swimming at a popular California beach last Sunday when he was attacked by a shark. He punched the predator on the nose, then fellow swimmers rescued him. This week we’re exploring ways to respond redemptively to Pride Month and the rising cultural opposition of our day. Today let’s become a bit more militant in fighting our spiritual adversary. What does “resist him, standing firm in your faith” mean for us today?

President Biden stated on Friday that Hamas is “no longer capable” of carrying out another large-scale attack on Israel, detailing a three-phase deal that would lead to the release of the remaining hostages and end the nearly eight-month-long war in Gaza. While Israel is engaged in a political and military battle with Hamas that is ideological at its core, the Jewish state does not need to fear losing its own people to the ideology of its opponent—but America does.

Yesterday's Daily Article Special Edition on the Donald Trump conviction can be read here.

You can watch Mary Leahy's amazing performance with her father here.

Donald J. Trump has been convicted in his hush-money Manhattan trial. He is the first former American president to be found guilty of a crime. The presiding judge, Justice Juan Merchan, now faces the task of sentencing Mr. Trump. A prison sentence is considered unlikely; penalties could range from a fine to probation. Mr. Trump is also certain to appeal, a process that could take months or years to resolve. As Time notes, the judge’s decisions will “reverberate across the political landscape and, depending on the timing, could greatly affect the election in November.”

Charges against professional golfer Scottie Scheffler were dropped yesterday in Louisville. The prosecutor stated, “Mr. Scheffler’s characterization that this was a ‘big misunderstanding’ is corroborated by the evidence.” It seems that in today’s culture, evidence plays a small role in our partisan divide, where opinions are formed based on moral alignment, not unbiased facts. Evangelical Christians are more likely to be canceled than ever before in American history, which means our message is more needed than ever before in American history.

The prosecution and the defense ended their closing arguments late last night in Donald J. Trump’s trial in New York City. A verdict could be reached as soon as today. Our nation is threatened by a poisoning ideology that the solution to America’s unrest is violence and theft against fellow citizens. Today, we remind ourselves of our calling to love another: to love America is to love Americans.

The New York Times recently reported on thousands of suspected disappearances at the hands of Abdul Raziq, an Afgan general during the war on terror who they’ve rightfully dubbed “America’s monster.” While they claim that Raziq was empowered to expedite the war, as Christians, we need to remember that God will never call us to walk down a path he can’t bless. To him, the means matter just as much as the ends.
