“How did the greatest love story in history become known as a hate group?” Such questions motivate those behind the ministry called He Gets Us and, if you haven't seen their ads or billboards yet, the Super Bowl this Sunday night will offer the perfect chance to change that. But what is He Gets Us and why do they plan on investing a billion dollars in such campaigns over the next three years?

According to American intelligence officials, China’s spy balloon program is part of a global surveillance effort to collect information on the military capabilities of countries around the world. Such a brazen act reveals the fact that laws do not have the intrinsic power to change character. So, individually, how can we truly act morally?

President Biden gave his State of the Union address last night. Historically, State of the Union addresses rarely affect a president’s public standing, yet millions still watch. Why? The answer is relevant far beyond last night’s speech.

For $10, the San Antonio Zoo will name a cockroach after your ex and feed it to an animal. But there are more dramatic examples of the enmity invading our culture, like the 77 percent of Americans who say our country’s partisan divide is deeper now than before the pandemic. As Christians, we are called to know Christ and make him known—but we too often settle for knowing about Christ rather than seeking to know Christ personally. How can we ensure we seek him for who he is?

The bird flu strain H5N1 has been infecting minks in Spain—unprecedented for mammals—and could signify the start of a deadlier pandemic than Covid-19. Naturally, our fight-or-flight response kicks in on hearing such news. This response has enormous spiritual implications as well.

The old cliché that something went “the way of the dodo” could soon have a very different meaning. Scientists at Colossal Biosciences in Austin, Texas, are currently working to resurrect the bird that has become synonymous with extinction, and if your mind is trending toward Jurassic Park flashbacks as you read, you’re not too far off base. Their approach reminds us that sometimes the best way to make a big difference is by being content with incremental changes. Is the same true for Christians trying to change our culture today?

Tom Brady retired from the NFL for the second time yesterday. It would seem that Brady was no longer satisfied with the direction of his life and career, which makes him an outlier in our society. According to Gallup, 85 percent of Americans are satisfied with their personal lives. This contrasts with only 23 percent who are satisfied with the direction of their country. What explains this wide disparity between the way we view our country and the way we view our personal lives?

Georgia police officer Jacob Kersey resigned from his position after being suspended for having posted a message to Facebook about his biblical stance on marriage. Kersey explained his response: “My integrity and Christian beliefs are at the core of who I am, and I will not abandon them.” His example is the opposite of what some Christians may do in succumbing to cultural pressure to privatize our faith, treating Jesus as a means to our ends—a temptation that is more subtle and attractive than we may think.

The White House announced yesterday that the US plans to end the coronavirus public health emergency on May 11. However, The World Health Organization is also currently monitoring nine “priority diseases” that pose the greatest public health risk, including “Disease X,” defined as “a serious international epidemic [that] could be caused by a pathogen currently unknown to cause human disease.” The brevity and uncertainty of life is on my mind and heart today because of something that happened two days ago at the Chapel where I speak on Sundays.

A golden, eight-foot female sculpture wearing Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s signature lace collar now stands over the state courthouse in New York City. According to the New York Times, the sculptor titled her work “NOW” because “it was needed ‘now,’ at a time when women’s reproductive rights were under siege after the US Supreme Court in June overturned the constitutional right to abortion.” Critics see the sculpture in a very different light, some calling it a “hideous abortion idol” and even “demonic.”
