Broad statement here, but lesbians don't like doodles. Seems no one told the Tasmanian Anti-Discrimination Commissioner. She refused to grant an exemption to allow the Lesbian, Gay and Bisexual Alliance to exclude "biological men" from lesbian events. Yet again, women cop it - even if they're alphabet people.

The Breakdown also addresses the latest lockdown lunacy, John Hewson becomes a victim of female quotas and Barnaby Joyce nails the climate question.

If the COVID-19 Delta strain doesn't get you, relax, there are plenty more letters in the Greek alphabet. Believe it or not, we're up to the lambda variant. But there is other news (pity it's just as bad). "Climate action" is being legislated from the bench - although it's not the worst decision that judge has made. But on the plus side, creepy lawyer Michael Avenatti is going to prison, but so should the media that gave him oxygen.

Speaking of which, academics are addressing the cost to Black of Australia of Five-Minute Black Fellas. It's another debate 18C has helped stifle and it's time it was addressed.

Here we go again ... COVID lockdowns hit NSW and the ACT, Facebook doesn't trust you to understand satire so fact-checks testicles (yet the ABC couldn't fact check Dark Emu, interesting), and greedy fake-frogs want your money. Oh, and as a bonus, Hunter Biden has a new job! And this one is quite lucrative ... and totally above board. Just like all the other ones.

For seven years, the literary and media class has been fawning over Dark Emu, despite its obvious flaws. ABC hosts were particularly enamoured of the book and its author. And if you dared questioned the work, you were likely to be called a racist (as Andrew Bolt and everyone at Quadrant was). But now the wizard has been exposed. But will the journalists and politicians admit they were duped? Or will the fight to maintain the narrative?

And we are meant to honour the judges and magistrates that sit on the bench - but shouldn't they have to earn that respect? It is time they were judged on the content of their character instead of the colour of their robes? This week, meet two judges who dishonour their honours.

This week on The Week that Went, we explore how narratives take hold, and why they are so important. When a political narrative takes hold, it is almost impossible to change it - whether it is 'Scotty from marketing', Russian collusion, COVID from bats or using troops to clear a park for a photo-op ... and even when evidence stacks against them, the media - the gatekeepers - can keep the truth quiet. Especially when they're embarrassed by it.

Scientists are our new overlords - we trust them to make decisions with cool regard only for the facts, guided by truth and knowledge. But what if these experts are as venal, shallow and weak as the rest of us? As susceptible to flattery, money and power as you (not me, I'm perfect!) If Fauci's emails are any guide, they are - so shouldn't it be reported?

For an entire year, you were told that it was a mad conspiracy theory to think that COVID-19 could have come out of a lab in Wuhan. Now it seems, the media - and the social media overlords - have realised it might be possible after all. You can even say so on Facebook!
