In the past week, Victoria Police has beaten the pulp out of Australians with batons, used capsicum spray and shot at our fellow citizens with rubber bullets - in broad daylight while the media cheered. Until, of course, the police turned on the media. Today on the Breakdown, what the freedom protests say about our media, our politicians and us.

Your travel may still be limited in Australia, your movement will be tracked and your rights will be curtailed. This is not what Australia is meant to be. Our freedom is not meant to be negotiable. At least, it wasn't until COVID. And according to NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian, it could be like this for three or four more years, so 2020 and 2021 were just the warmups.

A UN do-gooder has Zoomed into Australia to kill off the Australian coal industry. But in doing so, he has to ignore hundreds of years of economics, the reality of the global market and why Australian coal is good for the environment. It takes a special breed of idiot to make a poophole country like Afghanistan worse. Shuffle forward, Joe Biden. But he wasn't alone. He was supported by a crack team of imbeciles and woke dummies in the hierarchy of the US military, more concerned with gender than the agenda. Which raises the question: what's the US military for when it can't even beat mountain dwellers with well-lubed goats? And when was the last time the US actually won a war?

For countries like Australia, which rely on the US, this is a frightening wake-up call. Which China is watching closely.

On the plus side, it seems the state governments have finally figured we may have to learn to live with COVID - especially when the reality is that 92 per cent of COVID deaths in Australia have been in the over-70s but 88 per cent of infections have been in the under-70s.

Trump was an orange clown who had no idea what he was doing. But now we can relax. Take it easy. The experts are back in charge. Diplomacy is back. There's no way they'd do something so catastrophically, monumentally dunder-headed as ceding a strategically important country like Afghanistan to the goat-rogering child-murderers of the Taliban. That's crazy talk!
