We now look at the rising problem of disinformation around xenophobic attacks in South Africa. Misinformation or unintentional inaccuracies, incorrect dates, mismatched photographs, videos and errors in translation around such attacks on foreign nationals have been taken as real news, to a point where it has incited more violence. This morning we will look at disinformation on social media which is deliberately used or often orchestrated in attempts to confuse or manipulate people through delivering dishonest information to them.

The May national elections are looming and it’s important that the youth have their voices heard but how many young people have registered to vote? The IEC Commission has said they need the youth, who are closing in on forming half of the population, to come out and vote. We now talk about the importance of the youth voting and being a part of the future but firstly registering to do so. Do the youth understand the process that leads up to elections? Will they turn out to vote on the 8th of May 2019?

We are now in conversation with Gareth Newham, the head of the Justice and Violence Prevention Programme at the Institute for Security Studies. Gareth asks why crime is still soaring when the South African Police Service (SAPS) has a substantial Crime Intelligence Division that is tasked with identifying the individuals, groups and networks involved in serious crime. So why then, is public safety deteriorating and what can be done to improve things?

Many Malawians were attacked and displaced from their homes in Durban last week. It is alleged that the locals went on a rampage, broke into their homes and looted their businesses. The #MeToo movement has prompted many women to share their own experiences with sexual abuse and assault Unfortunately not many male survivors have come out, in part because of cultural stigmas that prevent men from men speaking out. There is no doubt though, that the trauma from sexual assault affects victims, even far later in life. This morning we try and understand to what extent, does sexual abuse faced by men, affect them later in their relationships where intimacy and expression of love are concerned.

The DA's Parliamentary Operations Director, Louw Nel has taken DA MP Dianne Kohler Barnard to the court for "discriminatory utterances" made at a workshop programme. In his affidavit, Nel alleges that in a workshop setting in 2018, Kohler Barnard made comments that were "xenophobic, racist and sexist in nature".

SARS workers will continue with their nationwide strike today. The Head Negotiator of the union Public Servants Association of South Africa, PSA, Stefan Viljoen, says the tax collector didn't come back to the negotiating table today. This after tens of thousands of SARS workers downed tools across the country at SARS offices, boarder posts and harbours. Workers want a once off 11.4% increase and SARS is offering 7% multi-year increase.
