  • South Africa doesn't have enough women in foreign policy.
South Africa doesn't have enough women in foreign policy, this according to Jo-Ansie van Wyk, Professor in International Politics, at Unisa. South Africa is one of at least 17 countries that have a woman foreign minister. Since 1994, all but one of the country's foreign ministers has been women. Professor van Wyk says the prognosis for a feminist South African foreign policy remains poor as long as women are excluded from or under-represented in the main areas of the country's foreign policy establishment.

Currently the country has seen continuous mass protests calling for regime change in Sudan, this despite the heavy-handed response to the demonstrations by President Omar al-Bashir's government.
