Frustrated musicians, artists and composers say the Bill doesn't make provision for composers and musicians to get what is due to them when work is used in movies and other productions. But the Bill actually protects the rights of artists against commercial exploitation and will stop them being ripped off by unfair distribution and reproduction agreements.

  • Police offer 500 thousand rand reward for information in three suspected VBS killings.
    Police say they hope that a reward of 500 thousand rand for information in three killings suspected to be related to the VBS saga will lead to the arrests of the killers. Five hundred-thousand-rand is being offered for information that can lead to the arrest of suspects in the killing of two senior members of the South African Municipal Worker Union in Thohoyandou earlier this year. They are also offering a 250-thousand rand reward for information in the killing of a councillor in Tubatse last year. Thabang Maupa Ronald Mani and Timson Musetsho were known critics of municipalities that deposited money into the now liquidated VBS Mutual Bank.
