The Department of Education this week announced that Basic Education Minister Angie Motshekga had approved the reappointment of the History Ministerial Task Team to overhaul the history curriculum. The announcement comes after the recommendation of the ministerial task team report released last year that there should be a complete overhaul of the History Curriculum and Assessment Statement from Grades 4 to 12. Education experts said rewriting history was essential to educate pupils about the country’s past. They said it was also important to extend the subject to the rich history of the continent. Zimbabwe's ruling party ZANU-PF has endorsed President Emmerson Mnangagwa to run for a second five-year term in the 2023 elections. The decision was made at a two-day conference in Esigodini, south-west of the capital Harare, over the weekend. Mnangagwa came to power in November last year after veteran leader Robert Mugabe was forced to resign following an army coup. He was then elected in a July presidential vote that his main opponent Nelson Chamisa says he won fraudulently.
