The informal sector in South Africa is a significant source of employment. Statistics South Africa said its quarterly labour force survey that the formal sector, private households and agriculture recorded declines in employment, while the informal sector had employment gains. Should we be taking the informal sector a lot more seriously? Should it be enabled to thrive? If so, how?

Today the spotlight is Tunisia, the country wedged between Algeria and Libya on the southern coast of the Mediterranean Sea and is the smallest of the North African states. In 1956 Tunisia gained its independence from France after two years of negotiations between the French and the Neo-Destour ("New Constitution") party, which was backed by the trade unions.

The month of October has been declared Mental Health Awareness month with the objective of not only educating the public about mental health but also to reduce the stigma and discrimination that people with mental illness are often subjected today we put our focus on Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD, which is said to affect 1 in 20 children, and an estimated 1-million South African adults, yet it is a condition often misdiagnosed, and plagued by myths and misunderstandings, particularly with regard to treatment.

The South African government will this week hold a presidential summit on gender-based violence and Femicide in a bid to determine a road map to end the scourge. In his speech on the occasion of the National Women’s Day 2018, President Cyril Ramaphosa announced that a National Summit on Gender-Based Violence (GBV) and Femicide would be held between government and civil society to jointly determine a roadmap to end the scourge of gender-based violence and killings of women and girls in our country. What can be expected from the summit?
