The Association of Black Securities and Investment Professionals (ABSIP), was established in 1995 to address the apparent lack of representation of black professionals in the securities and investment industry. Recently they were part of the Young Professional formations of which included Black Management Forum, Association for the Advancement of Black Accountants of Southern Africa (ABASA) & African Women Chartered Accountants (AWCA) hosted a collaborative meeting where people can share their experiences and challenges in Cape Town.

Ikhayalami is a Nonprofit Organisation whose primary aim is to develop and implement affordable technical solutions for Informal Settlement Upgrading. These are designed, where appropriate, to be imbedded into a community-driven process and scaled up with the support of the State. Ikhayalami was established in 2006 as a response to conventional approaches in dealing with informality, which is unsustainable and painstakingly slow in meeting the immediate needs of the vast majority of South Africa’s urban poor. They have been working on rebuilding shacks in Khayelitsha. By rebuilding the shacks, and not finding a solution for better accommodation, are we making it a norm for people to live in shacks?
