Mpumalanga was recently identified as the world's largest air pollution hotspot. Data shows the province, which has 12 coal-fired power plants, contributes the largest amount of nitrogen dioxide in the atmosphere. WHO says air pollution kills 600,000 children every year. According to the World Health Organisation, Air pollution is a major environmental risk to health and by reducing air pollution levels, countries can reduce the burden of disease from stroke, heart disease.
