On Tuesday this week when addressing the United Nations General Assembly, President Cyril Ramaphosa called for the reform of the United Nations, particularly its Security Council. He went on to say that South Africa would like to see the Security Council increased to 15 members and for Africa to have two permanent members on the council since most conflicts happen on the African continent.

A judge declared Bill Cosby a "sexually violent predator" on Tuesday as a first step toward sentencing the 81-year-old comedian for drugging and sexually assaulting a woman over a decade ago. A study by Arizona State University researchers, published in 2014 in the journal Criminal Justice Studies, found that in the federal court system, judges gave older offenders a "senior citizen discount" when it came to jail time. After Bill Cosby's recent conviction in a Montgomery County, Pennsylvania court on three counts of aggravated indecent assault, Under the law, he could receive as much as 30 years in prison, although some people has suggested that due to his age, he should not be given a long jail term.

One source of the power of corporations is the parallel economic and legal jurisdictions they have carved out for themselves in tax havens where they park their profits out of the reach of state taxes and other regulators. The practices of transfer pricing, base erosion and profit shifting (BEPS) constitute the biggest proportion of the illicit financial flight (IFF) from economies like South Africa, where mining remains a significant sector.
