The Mangosuthu University of Technology has established a safety management team to look into security measures at residences, following the death 21-year-old Zolile Khumalo at MUT's Lonsdale residence in the Durban city centre. 23-year old Thabani Mzolo appeared briefly in court today on charges of murder and illegal possesion of a firearm and ammunition. MUT's SRC has since called for better security for students living off campus.

Gawie Cillié, employment relations expert and lecturer at the University of Stellenbosch Business School (USB) says the alarming result is directly linked to the low levels of trust between employers and employees in South Africa – a mistrust that has been cultivated over many years. This coupled with poor reliance on professional management, the country’s capacity to retain and attract talent, as well as the high unemployment and poverty levels, have all contributed to a negative labour-employee relationship.

Special Envoy for South Africa's candidature for the United Nations Security Council, Aziz Pahad has made a global appeal for the country's bid to secure a non-permanent seat on the UN Security Council. South African law professor Steve Cornelius resigned from the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) following the announcement of new testosterone regulations.
