Mama Sisulu will always be remembered as one of South Africa’s key heroines of the liberation struggle. She joined the ANC Women's League in the 1940s, becoming its treasurer in 1959. She became a member of the executive of the Federation of South African Women when it was formed in 1954. She was a leader of the campaign to boycott 'Bantu Education,' imposed on African children in 1954.

As of the end of 2017, according to data provided to Al-Monitor by the Israeli Population and Immigration Authority, 15,613 people had submitted requests for asylum. Just 11 have been granted refugee status, a number Israeli organization African Refugee Development Center (ARDC) cites as one of the lowest in the Western world. According Benjamin Netanyahu, the migrants centered largely in south Tel Aviv are in Israel illegally and arrived for economic reasons, pointing to security and safety burdens posed by this population. The government considers them “infiltrators” — a term originating in Israel’s 1954 law intending to prevent entry of Palestinian refugees. We look at this decision to deport and ask - is it morally justified?

Early last year, ANC NEC member and Science and Technology Minister Naledi Pandor raised concerns over how some government officials sustain their lifestyles. She then suggested that government should start implementing lifestyle audits to identify public servants involved in corruption. President Cyril Ramaphosa supports the call, in his recent SONA reply, he also called for lifestyle audits for top government officials. It is common knowledge that a well-defined asset declaration and lifestyle audit system is a strong tool to fight public sector corruption and abuse of power. What’s your take on this?
