After almost seven years in the job, Mayor Patricia de Lille finds herself at the centre of a political storm, facing several allegations levelled against her. This coming weekend, De Lille's conduct will be assessed when the DA's Federal Executive meets to discuss reasons she previously provided as to why she should not resign as mayor. However, De Lille is adamant that the investigation process that was followed against her had been grossly unfair.

This morning we give you both sides of the story, starting with the Democratic Alliance. In December last year, the federal executive of the DA decided to suspend Patricia De Lille from party activities. According to the party, her suspension was informed by investigations into a series of reports and an affidavit containing allegations of maladministration in the city. Post the conclusion of an investigation, the party’s subcommittee "found sufficient management and governance-related challenges prevalent in the DA's City of Cape Town caucus, negatively impacting the city's mandate to govern efficiently". So this morning we establish the facts, asking – what was exactly investigated? Was the investigation conducted fairly?

Clothing Brand H&M recently came under fire for their boy's clothing catalogue which shows a black boy modelling a sweater that refers to him as a monkey. On the adjacent page, a white boy is shown wearing one that calls him a 'survival expert'. Last year in October 2017, skincare brand Dove came under fire after it was accused of racism for airing a commercial showing a black woman turning into a white woman after removing her top. Following this dove apologised.

Sipho Ngwema talks about the role of SA Competition Commission in curbing anticompetitive behaviour in the school uniform industry. The commission instituted investigations and conducted a survey into the R10 billion industry after receiving complaints about the high prices last year.

The listeriosis death toll has risen to 61 since the outbreak was announced in early December last year. Gauteng still has the most cases of listeriosis, with 442 out of the 727 confirmed cases. The Western Cape was second with 92 confirmed cases.

‘Rules regulating the removal and impeachment of the president’

Focus: Last month, the Concourt ordered Parliament to formulate rules regulating the removal and impeachment of the president in terms of Section 89 of the Constitution and gave the National Assembly 120 days from the date of the order to do so. To give us an update on the matter, we are joined by Moloto Mothapo and he is going to take us through Parliamentary processes in terms of what happens next.

January being recognized as Education Awareness Month, we discuss “how to use your education to give back”. According to Dr Ndiviwe Mphothulo, because he benefitted from non-payment of fees, it’s important for him to share the knowledge he acquired through his studies. He says “I am a beneficiary of non-payment of fees! After matriculating at Morris Isaacson (SOWETO), i registered at MEDUNSA in 1995. My studies were paid by NSFAS, PUTCO and a Japanese NGO. I have worked in rural areas for 15 years and the community has benefited from my education”.
