We begin the week talking about God’s peace. Here’s the promise.

I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world. -  John 16:33

Jesus promises you peace. Peace is not the absence of conflict, problems, or difficulties. Peace comes from living under the reign of Christ in your life. Peace comes from understanding that God is in control and that He cares for you. 

Because Jesus overcame the world through His perfect life, He can offer you peace. His victory produced the supernatural peace that He offers you today.

When God repeats Himself in scripture, it's never without purpose. You should always pay attention to spiritual truth that shows up in both the Old and New Testament.

The book of Hebrews quotes this promise in chapter 12, verse 5-6, so we might want to listen up.

Many people see the discipline of the Lord as God punishing His children. When something bad happens, their first thought is that God is punishing them. They don't see God as the loving Father who desires the best for them.

This verse is more about training than punishment. God is always working in your life for your good. The only way a muscle grows is by putting it under stress. When you lift weights, you are building your muscles by pushing them to their limit.

God allows various trials in your life to build your faith and trust in Him. As your faith is tested, it grows and develops.

As a father, I want the best for my children. My child may feel like I am limited his freedom because I don't let him play in the street. He may not be excited about being forced to do his homework, but it is for his good. Because I love Him, I bring discipline in his life.

A father who doesn't train his children doesn't love them. A child needs to be disciplined and trained to grow to be a responsible adult. God loves you so much that He will not allow you to stay the way you are. He works in your life to grow your faith.

Never resent God when you face trials. Every problem is an opportunity for God to take you to the next level of your faith and walk with Him.

Let's jump right into them.

First, God is your Sun.

Few things are more relaxing and peaceful than a warm sunny day. Sitting in the sun seems to warm you all over. When God is your sun, you never walk in darkness. The scary shadows of the night disappear in the light of the morning sun. Things are always clearer in the sunlight. Since God is your sun, you never walk in darkness, are warmed by his presence and have clarity for the road before you.

Second, He is your shield.

I'm not sure how big God's shield is, but I'm sure it must be a big one! What could possibly harm you when you have God's shield surrounding you? Fear disappears when you know that God is shielding you on every side.

Third, He gives grace.

Grace is God's unmerited favor. Grace is not getting what you deserve. Because of the grace found in Christ, you have forgiveness of sin, and entrance into His presence without fear or shame.

Which leads us to number four, His glory.

You can experience his glory and the presence of God because of His grace. The glory of God is synonymous with the presence of God. You can experience his glorious presence now, and for all eternity in heaven.

Finally, as you walk in His grace and glory, you can be assured that He is bringing good things into your life.

In fact, He won't hold back one blessing for those who walk in fellowship with Him.

Because you have the mind of Christ, you have the power to control your thoughts. God commands you to take every thought captive to the obedience of Christ.

One of the most frequent battlegrounds for spiritual warfare is your mind. Just as Satan deceived Eve through his words, Satan is always whispering deception and lies into your ears.

When it comes to temptation, You are not out on your own. God promises victory over every temptation that comes your way. When Christ died on the cross, He ended sin's power over you and provided a way to overcome every temptation Satan throws your way.

This verse contains three promises when it comes to temptation.

First, everyone is tempted. It is easy to feel like you are the only ones who faces temptation, but everyone is tempted. You never get to a place in your Christian life where you are no longer tempted. From the pastor to the new Christian, we all face temptation. You are no different than anyone else.
