You’re active on Facebook. You play around on Instagram. You’ve probably dabbled with Twitter. But one of the great mysteries of life is, “What in the world should I do with LinkedIn, and how do I use it to grow my business?” You’re in luck, because today we pull back the curtain and reveal some of the secrets for getting more business leads on LinkedIn.
I’m excited to bring you this conversation with my friend, BJ Viken. BJ is a marketing and sales expert who helps professionals get more leads from LinkedIn and teaches how to close them. I first got to know BJ a few months ago when I joined a ghostwriting mastermind on LinkedIn. BJ shared some amazing business strategies and I was impressed with his generosity and strategies.
In this conversation, BJ breaks down his process for getting leads on LinkedIn. He goes into detail about why LinkedIn is so valuable, why it’s important to treat your writing like a business, and one of the most important things, which is what you should include in your LinkedIn profile. I took extensive notes on this conversation, and I would recommend that you grab a pen and paper.
Make sure to check out BJ’s website, which is https://scaleup.com/au. When you visit the site, you’ll see a link to schedule a strategy session with BJ, which I highly recommend! You can also find BJ on LinkedIn.

Did you know you have a serious program? Every day, your mind is being programmed by the people you talk to, the news you watch, the books you read, and everything else you consume. It’s all giving your mind a blueprint for what and how to think. But I have some great news: you can change the programming so you can think more clearly and have more success in your life.
Today’s interview is a fun conversation with my new friend, Valerie Pugsley. I have to give a shout-out to my friend Michael Daehn for introducing me to Valerie, who is a possibility mindset coach. And man, is that a valuable niche! We all need to be constantly working on our mindset.
Valerie is here to help us re-program and improve our mindset by getting a proper perspective on failure, comparison, and so much more. She also has some great insights about how we use our words as writers. Words are very powerful, and it’s critical that we use them correctly. This conversation was a blast, and I hope it impacts you as much as it did me.
Be sure to check out her site at https://www.inspiredstrategicsolutions.com/ or connect with her on LinkedIn. Valerie also has a gift for Smart Business Writing listeners—a Clarity Challenge. Go to https://bit.ly/vplisten, then once you’ve completed the challenge, message Valerie and let her know you completed it, and she will schedule a time to go over the results.

How do you maintain a full-time job, lead your family, yet also find time to write a couple dozen books, produce three podcasts, and lead a growing online community?
I’m thrilled to bring you this interview with my friend John Stange, who is here to help give us some answers. John is an author, pastor, podcaster, husband, and father. He’s going to share his journey of being a pastor while also building a successful side business as an author and entrepreneur.
John is the Lead Pastor of Core Creek Community Church in Langhorne, Pennsylvania. He hosts three podcasts: "The Chapter-A-Day Audio Bible," Daily Devotions with Pastor John," and "Sermons, Bible Studies, and Training.” John has written over twenty books, all of which are focused on spiritual growth, leadership, marriage, and practical aspects of following Jesus.
John also recently started The Healthy Discipleship Community, which has been a great success. His next book, Dwell on These Things, will be published by Penguin/Random House next Spring.
I met John a few months ago when he joined the Total Life Freedom Community, which is led by my friend Vincent Pugliese. I was immediately intrigued by the fact that he’s a pastor but also an author and entrepreneur. In our conversation, John shares how he manages his time, repurposes his content, how the book deal with Penguin/Random House happened, and much more. We also discuss the issue of intellectual property and how John handles that in his ministry.

You have a business name. You have a product or service you offer. You probably have a website and a logo. But do you know your keywords? If not, you’re missing out on a valuable tool that communicates how you help people.
A little while back, I came across an insightful post on LinkedIn by my friend Steve Woodruff, who is known as the King of Clarity. Steve was talking about the value of keywords for your business. I wasn’t sure what he meant, so after a brief explanation, I invited him back on the podcast to give us some insights on using keywords for our business. (If you’ve been listening to this show for a while, you might remember Steve’s first appearance back on Episode 74.)
Steve is a consultant who helps businesses, as well as individuals in career transition. In this conversation, Steve explains what keywords are, why they are important, how to decide on your keywords, and how to use them well. This is a fantastic episode that is packed with insights you can put into practice immediately!
You can find out more about Steve on his website, https://www.stevewoodruff.com, as well as LinkedIn and Twitter.

One of the most important things we do as business leaders is communicate with our customers, clients, and readers. But sometimes we struggle with knowing how to do this effectively. You’re in for a treat today because my guest is going to show how to use the power of storytelling to communicate your message in a way that people already love.
If you’re like me, you have probably spent a lot of time during this quarantine watching movies and TV shows. Why is it that we can easily spend hours getting lost in those stories … yet we don’t usually look forward to communication from businesses? What is getting lost in translation?
My guest today has the answer. Her name is Amber Royer, and she’s a novelist and writing teacher. She’s the creator of the Chocoverse science fiction series, and in fact, the third book in the series, Fake Chocolate, comes out this month.
In this conversation, Amber is going to teach us a few basic storytelling principles and how to use these for business. You’ll also learn why it’s important to read fiction as a business leader and how to get started writing fiction.
This is Amber’s second appearance on the podcast, and if you’d love to hear more about storytelling, check out her first appearance on Episode 92. You can connect with Amber via her website, Instagram, and YouTube.

I don't often talk about my faith directly in my podcast or other content. It's not because I'm hiding my faith--rather, it's because my focus is on helping people with writing, not to preach.
But today is different. I think it's important for you to know where I'm coming from as a person. Since today is Easter, it's a great opportunity to share a little about my faith.
