Started under former Superintendent Lt General Michael Gould, the Air Force Academy Athletic Corporation (now known as the Falcon Foundation) began to drastically shift the focus of the USAFA Academy from an institution of developing leaders of integrity and character to a corporation focused on money and Division 1 Sports. The Air Force Academy Athletic Corporation (Falcon Foundation) was only supposed to last for 5 years in order to provide additional funding to USAFA Sports teams. It was never dissolved, and has become a major player in money corruption at a Federal Service Academy with its non-existant transparency. Gould is now the CEO of the Association of Graduates, and spearheads the Falcon Foundation fundraising projects, mainly supporting the Air Force Academy Football team.
Major Chance Harridge (USAFA 2004) was a Star Air Force Academy Quarterback for the Air Force Falcons who was excited to come to the Academy. Entering the Preparatory School first (A-Squad) and experiencing the massive Rape Scandal in 2003, the entire leadership chain at the Air Force Academy was fired, and the 4th Class System was dissovled. Sound familiar?
After graduation, Major Harridge attended pilot training and became a C-17 pilot. Six years later, he returned to USAFA to coach football and work in the Commandants Scheduling office around 2011-2012. He experienced by first hand accounts a system rocked with weak leadership that was having a massive effect on Cadet leadership development that would be needed in the war effort.
From discussing his career, his successes, his failures, and his observations from behind the scenes of sports funding at USAFA, Major Harridge provides an inspirational story of how we can fix our great Air Force Academy, hold leaders accountable, and inspire our Cadets and future officers to start doing something about it.
