With the start of autumn and the cold weather, it's time to prepare the gardens in our yards for the winter. But that doesn't mean you're done growing delicious produce! It's very easy to start your own garden indoors. Peter gives his overview of how to get started indoors and what's best to grow for your salads.

Then, Milton Town Manager Don Turner joins Dave to talk about Vermont’s struggling first responder services. Later, University of Vermont apple expert Terry Bradshaw and Dan Bair of East Montpelier’s Peck Farm Orchard join Dave to talk about this year’s Vermont apple crop.

Wednesday's Dave Gram Show leads off with a visit from Sue Minter, CEO of Capstone Community Action, who will talk about her worries concerning under-counting low-income Vermonters in the upcoming Census. Then Kit Norton, just back from a VTDigger.org reporting trip to South Carolina, will talk about the state of Bernie Sanders' presidential campaign. Later, we open the phone lines for listener calls.

Tuesday’s Dave Gram Show starts with a visit by James Duff Lyall of the Vermont ACLU chapter and a conversation about an important court victory on access to public records. Then VTDigger’s Anne Galloway comes in to talk about that organization’s 10th anniversary. Later, Webster Phillips of the National Association to Preserve Social Security and Medicare has practical advice for those thinking about applying for their benefits.

With many Vermont colleges struggling and some closing, Marlboro College earlier this year came up with an innovative plan for self-preservation: merge with the University of Bridgeport in Connecticut. Now merger talks have broken down and the deal has gone away. We talk with Marlboro Trustees' chair Richard Saudek about what happened and what the future holds. Then, Garrett Graff joins Dave to talk about his new book, "The Only Plane In The Sky -- An Oral History of 9/11. Later, two officials from the state Health Department discuss the state's efforts to deal with instances of serious respiratory illness linked to vaping.

Friday's Dave Gram show features a visit from John Walters, author of the Vermont Political Observer blog, followed by folks touting a new collaboration between the Alchemist brewers and a pollinator-friendly solar farm to make honey beer.  Later, Lisa Senecal and Cary Brown of the Vermont Commission on Women stop in to talk about sexism in the media, culture and politics.

For Thursday's Dave Gram Show, we travel to Tunbridge for a live broadcast from one of Vermont's most loved agricultural fairs. Guests will include fair board President Alan Howe; Tracy Amil, who registers exhibits; Pat Brennan, a food vendor, and others.
