Sometimes the smallest moments change the entire direction of your life.
D.B. has officially left Biloxi and started the next chapter of his radio career in Fort Walton Beach, Florida. But there's still one major problem:
He has nowhere to live.
And he's not alone.
In this episode, D.B. talks about something he's struggled with while telling this part of his Radio Journey—how to tell the story of these years without leaving out someone who played an important role in them: his son's mother.
When D.B. accepted the Florida job, their relationship was still new. The original plan was to try long distance while she returned to Biloxi.
Then something happened.
She couldn't find gas.
What seemed like a temporary problem during the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina became one of those small moments D.B. can now look back on and wonder how differently his life might have unfolded if things had gone another way.
On this episode:
Sometimes life doesn't change because of one giant decision.
Sometimes you just can't find a gas station.
Next episode: Life in Florida starts feeling like a permanent vacation—and an old friend named Matt comes back into the story.

D.B. had a brilliant idea.
Grab a few of the guys, fly down to Orlando and spend a weekend at Universal Studios.
One problem:
Somebody told the wives.
This week, D.B. & Sherry somehow manage to cover everything from D.B.'s inability to stop making "your mom" jokes to his unhealthy excitement over corn.
On this episode:
Spoiler: it doesn't go well.

D.B. and Ted are back, and this time they're doing something incredibly dangerous: talking about their wives.
What begins with the joys of watching your spouse fight with technology somehow turns into Alexa developing an attitude, D.B. and Ted deliberately trying to convince their phones they're obsessed with adult diapers, and the possibility that they've completely destroyed their social media algorithms.
Then the guys tackle another important question: when you arrive at a hotel, do you unpack—or live directly out of the suitcase like you may need to flee the country at any moment?
On this episode:
It's another completely normal conversation between D.B. and Ted—which means absolutely nothing stays normal for very long.

Episode 043 | August 16, 2026 – My Last Song in Biloxi
Hurricane Katrina changed everything—including D.B.'s future at 107.1 The Monkey.
With the Gulf Coast struggling to recover and possible layoffs looming at the radio station, D.B.'s boss gave him some unexpected advice: if another opportunity came along, take it.
So D.B. started making calls.
Thanks to a radio friend he'd never even met in person, two opportunities suddenly appeared inside the same building in Florida—and both stations wanted D.B.
On this episode:
Why Hurricane Katrina forced D.B. to start looking for another radio job.
The career advice D.B. still believes today: never burn bridges.
How an online community of radio personalities helped shape D.B.'s career.
The man D.B. had never met who helped him land his next opportunity.
Why two program directors in the same building were competing to hire him.
Choosing nights on Fly 92.1 in Fort Walton Beach, Florida.
The emotional final broadcast on 107.1 The Monkey.
Why leaving Biloxi made D.B. feel like he was abandoning the people he'd spent months talking to after Katrina.
The final song D.B. played before leaving Mississippi.
Driving into Florida and realizing almost immediately that he'd made the right decision.
And another temporary hotel stay while D.B. desperately searched for somewhere to live.
Biloxi had become much more than another radio job. It changed D.B.'s career, his relationships, and his understanding of what being a local radio personality could mean.
But eventually, it was time to move on.
And once again, Kelly Clarkson somehow ended up providing the soundtrack.
Next episode: A tragedy at the radio station unexpectedly helps D.B. solve his biggest problem in Florida.

Before D.B. closes the book on Biloxi, Mississippi, there are a few people—and one spectacularly bad prediction—he needs to tell you about.
After the devastation and heavier memories of Hurricane Katrina, this chapter goes back to the people who made D.B.'s time on the Gulf Coast unforgettable.
There's Fat Guy, the intimidating punk-rock-looking radio guy who taught D.B. something unexpected about pedicures.
There's Grady, the ball of energy who helped the new guy from New Jersey discover Biloxi.
And then there's Caroline—a regular caller who became an unofficial character on D.B.'s radio show and knew exactly how to get the phones ringing. Twenty years later, she's built an online following of her own as Mississippi Kween.
But D.B. saved his worst prediction for last.
Back in 2005, an up-and-coming artist recorded a custom liner saying D.B.'s name and promoting his radio show. After Katrina, while cleaning out his desk, D.B. found the CD and threw it away.
Why?
Because he figured she'd probably be a one-hit wonder.
Her name was Rihanna.
Whoops.
On this episode:
Sometimes the things you throw away become a lot more valuable twenty years later.
Next episode: D.B. finally leaves Biloxi—and the Radio Journey heads somewhere completely different.

Hurricane Katrina changed the Gulf Coast forever—and it also changed the way D.B. looked at radio.
After the storm, the normal formats disappeared. It didn't matter whether you worked at the Top 40 station, rock station or country station. People weren't looking for entertainment anymore.
They needed information.
Where could they find bottled water? Food? Shelter? Help?
And suddenly D.B. understood that being a local radio personality meant something much bigger than playing songs and making people laugh.
On this episode:
Sometimes you don't understand the importance of a chapter while you're living it.
For D.B., Biloxi became much more than another stop in his radio career.
