What starts as a conversation about a viral pickle dip quickly turns into a deep dive into forgotten insults, old-school detective voices, and one of the worst business ideas D.B. has ever come up with.
On this episode:
Sometimes the funniest episodes are the ones with absolutely no plan—and this one goes off the rails in the best possible way.
New episodes of D.B. & Ted are released every Sunday.

There are certain dates you never forget.
For D.B., one of them is July 16, 2007.
He was sitting at his desk at the radio station in Alabama when his phone rang. It was his mom calling in the middle of the day—something she almost never did.
Then she said the words that changed everything.
In today's Radio Journey, D.B. remembers losing his father, the coworkers who surrounded him when he was hundreds of miles from home, the simple drives and Wawa coffees he shared with his dad, and the phone calls they made to each other throughout D.B.'s radio career.
He also remembers one voicemail from the night before that he wishes he'd answered.
And for the first time since beginning his journey in radio, D.B. seriously wondered whether any of it was worth what he'd missed back home.
He was ready to walk away.
Then something happened.

After mistaking his coworker for a ghost in the last episode, D.B. has another creepy Alabama story—this time involving a beautiful park, a late-night walk home and a statue that looked very different after dark.
But the real story today is about the people D.B. met while living hundreds of miles from home.
There's Diesel, a Detroit radio guy who somehow knew people from D.B.'s Philadelphia radio days.
And then there's Frank.
Frank was a wonderful guy.
Frank could also talk.
A lot.
So much that D.B. and Diesel eventually developed an emergency rescue system for anyone unfortunate enough to be “getting Franked.”
It was goofy workplace nonsense—but looking back nearly 20 years later, D.B. realizes those friendships served a much bigger purpose. When you're far from home, sometimes the people you work with become the people who get you through it.
And that's about to become more important than D.B. realizes.

D.B. was working nights inside an old Victorian house in Alabama that, according to local history, had once been used as a hospital during the Civil War.
Most nights, everyone else was gone before his show ended at midnight.
The lights were off.
The hallways were dark.
And one night, something kept catching the corner of D.B.'s eye.
Then he turned around and saw an elderly man standing inside a dark production studio—a tall, slender man with a gaunt appearance who looked like he could have stepped straight out of an old photograph from the 1800s.
For about half a second, D.B. was convinced he'd just seen a ghost.
Turns out his name was Frank.
Then D.B. introduces another unforgettable Alabama radio friend, Farley—and explains why yelling “TIGER FOOTBALL!” at the wrong moment became a joke they're still talking about nearly 20 years later.
And before we leave Alabama, there's another creepy story waiting in a nearby park...

Sometimes a few words from the right person arrive exactly when you need them.
Before continuing his Radio Journey, D.B. wants to thank a VMB player named Michael, who recently discovered the podcast through Video Music Bingo and unknowingly gave D.B. some much-needed encouragement to keep going.
Then it's back to Alabama.
Within days of moving to the Muscle Shoals area and starting nights at Star 94.9, something happened just blocks from the radio station that made D.B. seriously question whether he'd made the right decision for himself and his family.
His new boss Brian's reaction—and the response from the community—quickly showed him there was much more to this place than his first impression.
And the night show D.B. worried would be a step backward soon gave him the opportunity to cross another goal off his radio career bucket list: D.B. Nyce at Night was now being heard in multiple radio markets.
And that creepy old building where the radio station was located?
We'll get to that tomorrow.

D.B. had barely unpacked in Alabama when something happened that made him wonder if he'd made a huge mistake.
Just days after starting his new job at Star 94.9, an extremist group showed up for a rally near the station. With his fiancée at home across the street, D.B. immediately walked into his new boss Brian Rickman's office and told him that if racial hatred was part of life there, this wasn't the place for his family.
Brian's reaction—and the reaction from the local community—showed D.B. that his first impression couldn't have been further from the truth.
And the job D.B. worried might be a step backward soon gave him an opportunity he'd always wanted: D.B. Nyce at Night airing across three different radio markets.
The Alabama chapter of the Radio Journey was just getting started.
And tomorrow? There's a ghost story waiting inside that old Civil War-era building.

D.B. thought he knew what living in Alabama was going to be like.
He was wrong.
After his time in Florida unexpectedly came to an end, a six-month non-compete left D.B. looking for his next opportunity. That's when his old friend Fatguy offered him a job doing nights at Star 94.9 in the Muscle Shoals area of Alabama.
Going from mornings back to nights felt like a step backward. Moving to Alabama wasn't exactly what D.B. had pictured for the next chapter of his career either.
But once he arrived, he discovered a place filled with incredible music history, legendary recording studios, fascinating people—and a few surprises that challenged what he thought he knew about Alabama.
And less than a week after starting his new job, something happened that nearly made him leave.
The Alabama chapter of D.B.'s Radio Journey begins.

Joe's birthday has officially become an annual event, and that means one thing... JoeMania is back!
This week, D.B. and Ted relive last year's wrestling-themed birthday party, talk about their favorite wrestler costumes, and somehow spend most of the episode imagining what life would be like if Macho Man Randy Savage had an everyday job.

Radio gave D.B. a career, but it also gave him something he never expected—the chance to experience life far outside the place where he grew up.
From New Jersey to Maine, Mississippi, Florida and eventually other parts of the country, every move introduced him to different people, different communities and different ways of looking at life.
In this chapter of the Radio Journey, D.B. looks back at living in beautiful Fort Walton Beach and Destin, Florida, the stereotypes he carried with him before moving to unfamiliar places, and how getting outside his own bubble changed the way he understands people—even when he doesn't agree with them.
Sometimes you have to leave home to understand just how big the world outside of it really is.

After years of chasing the dream, D.B. finally got the opportunity he had always wanted: his own morning show.
But getting there meant learning an uncomfortable lesson—sometimes being good at your job isn’t enough. Sometimes you have to campaign for yourself, win people over, and convince the right people that you deserve the opportunity.
Then came the moment D.B. had been waiting for: saying “D.B. Nyce in the Morning” for the first time.
In this chapter of the Radio Journey, D.B. looks back at finally becoming a morning-show host on Fly 92.1, being recognized by listeners in some unexpected places, and realizing that the biggest reward wasn’t feeling like a celebrity—it was discovering that something he did actually mattered to somebody listening.
And years later, that same feeling is part of what keeps this podcast going.
