’Bridal Boot Camp'. Yes there is such a thing. Conceptually it's been going on without a formal title for decades. It's when a woman says 'yes' then hustles to fit in the dress. LOL

Half kidding here. Women know this drill. Important occasions like weddings for example, for the average woman, typically require some 'lead time' self care investment in order to show up at your best. Exercise, better eating habits, etc. 

And we're not just talking Brides here if a wedding is involved. Everybody involved tries to get in better shape for the big day!  Don't even get me started with how serious a game this is for the MOBs (Mothers Of The Brides) LOL. Then there's the Mother of The Groom (or of the other Bride), the  Grandmas, Sisters, Aunts, and Friends... especially those IN the wedding party.  

So how much lead time does a woman need to get in shape for her big day? The answer is revealed in this podcast conversation with wweet smart and fit Vanessa Laise, the new 'Fitness Manager' at my favorite women's gym Healthy Fit For Women in Mamroneck NY.

'Charge' YOUR Cells Like A Cell Phone?

Our cells are like batteries and honestly who knew they could lose their charge? I just got a PEMF education and now I will educate you.

PEMF stands for Pulsed Electromagnetic Fields. Must be something to that ol' saying "Gotta re-charge my batteries eh? Seems disease injury, fatigue, and depression, just to name a few are marked by a lowering of our voltage.

David says PEMF is used by the well, unwell and the high performer, biohackers....anyone seeking to boost the body's natural healing and recovery systems. The machine is available for sale to wellness practictioners, for sale to teh consumer for home use, or you can pay for individual sessions with a PEMF practitioner like with David who's located in Stamford, CT. 

A PEMF machine looks like a big computer tower that is connected to a full body bed or a chair pad on which you lie or sit to charge the human body's 75 trillion cells with electromagnetic energy. You keep your clothes on.

Our bodies need extra energy for repair which is where David says PEMF comes in. He calls it  the modern day outgrowth of the pioneering work over one hundred years ago by Nikola Tesla.

So, if you're fighting a disease or injury, fatigue, or depression this may be of interest.  David also mentions that the 'technology' has been recognized by the FDA for wound healing, bone density issues and depression and 'may' help other conditions. But he says, thethinking is that if this energy can address those unrelated issues, doesn't it makes sense  that it may be successful in addressing myriad other issues as well?

My shark guy Dr. Gregory Skomal (left) is as famous as the Great White Sharks he tags for The Atlantic White Shark Conservancy.

I call him 'my shark guy' because for years he's made sure to be on my radio show every year during 'Shark Week' to share his latest shark science findings, and because we always have a lot of fun on the air together.

Dr. Gregory Skomal's the star of many Shark Week shows, and you’ve also probably seen him all over the news recently reporting on the increase of shark sightings and shark attacks near the shores on the East Coast. (Relaxing eh?)

So happens the day Good Morning America jumped on board a boat with him for a shark story live from Ryders Cove, on the Cape of Massachusetts  - my CBD guy was right there. Yes I have a "CBD guy" too. LOL.

Primabee CBD Founder Paul Borde (right). I'm helping him expand his best in class CBD products into unique locations.  Paul happens to live right where this news story was being shot so he ended up going down and speaking with both Dr. Greg Skomal and the  ABC News Meteoroligust Ginger Zee. They were preparing to go out on Greg's boat.

Paul knows Gregs's 'my shark guy' so he mentioned to Greg they had me in common. Greg thanked Paul for brinigng  up my name and reminding him to give me a call  and let my audience know what's really going on with the sharks out there.

The Biggest Social Media Phenomenon in History: The ALS Ice Bucket Challenge.   Pat Quinn was diagnosed with ALS one month after his 30th birthday in 2013. He passed on Nov 2020. He was an inspiration to millions of people around the world for his bravery to raise awareness about a disease that he knew he would not survive.   Pat Quinn and fellow ALS sufferer Pete Frates inspired by another ALS sufferer Anthony Senerchia, have all since passed. They spearheaded a movement that went on to raise $155 million for the ALS Association and over $220 million around the world for ALS research.   In 2014 more than 17Million people around the world took the Ice Bucket Challenge to raise the much needed funds to try and find a cure for this disgusting disease. However as a direct result of the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge HUGE Progress has been made!   Pats father Patrick Quinn Sr is carrying on his sons legacy. Rich “Big Daddy” is involved with all the major sports leagues and most TV networks. In addition to being a Super Bowl commentator, he founded an insurance company called Coastal Advisors to build insurance plans to protect athletes, entertainers, and business professionals.

"Big Daddy"  is personally well aware how life can throw a curveball. He’s survived a brain aneurism. (And recently COVID.) When his life was saved first tiem around he decided he would do his best to save others lives. Thus the continuing legacy of his golf outings and his continued legacy as well.

Yellowstone's Open! The WEST won. The floods were tough yes, but Montana folk are tougher. 

I honestly can't wait to return to Chico Hot Springs Resort & Day Spa in Pray Montana!  I’d kept owner Colin Kurth Davis’ card that I took off the counter when we checked out back in August 2019.

I always meant to call or write him about the magic of his place. I decided to give  him a call this week to ask how things were going out there and if the resort was affected by the floods and could I help in any way. 

Boy was he thrilled I called, because yes the floods happened and they had a really tough couple of days because nobody knew what the outcome of the damage would be, but people really need to know they're back in action.

Luckily said Colin, "It was a 'wrinkle in time". It left as fast as it came. It was truly amazing how fast everyone in Montana rallied to clean up. 

But he and many others in Montana are left with a really frustrating situation. Colin says, "All that people are left thinking about was the visual of that house breaking away from the banks of the Yellowstone River and floating away. The press played it over and over again. Where was the press showing all the neighbors putting their political and personal differences aside to help each other secure and piece evryhting back? Where has the press been to let everyone know just about everything's open, and Paradise Valley is ..well Paradise. People who rely on tourism here are hurting because nobody's sharing the current situation. There are people out there happily rafting the Yellowstone river as we speak."

Colin said, as expected his resort had to deal with many cancellations after that natural disaster, but for every cancellation another phone rang with a ‘local' looking to book. Locals were like 'wow you have openings'? Montana locals even started a new hashtag #SummerLikeALocal LOL. 

And speaking of locals, the negative press was so overdone that ‘local’ singer songwriter John Mayer, a regular you might mingle with at the saloon at Chico and other venues in Montana, was one of the first to be proactive helping get the word out. He used his social media  to tell those who had planned to vacation in Montana to come out. He's even planning a few concerts in the Summer in The Valley and in Gardiner Montana which was hit hardest because they're a little landlocked. His mission is to drive some revenue for those who  depend on tourist dollars to stay in business. 

Yes, the north entrance to Yellowstone Park is still closed, but everywhere else is the area is like a giant playground says Colin.

So I’m doing my part here on the East Coast to share that Chico Hot Springs Resort & Day Spa is open and as great as ever and so is Montana.

If you never swam in an all natural unchlorinated hot springs pool you’re missing an incredible experience. The pool at Chico Hot Springs is filled with 80,000 gallons of water that gets drained every night so they can clean the pool, and the water pours  back in so quickly it fills right back up every day, 365 days a year. The water temperature is 103 degrees but dips to 98 degrees in the more open area that gets surface cooled.

Boyfriend Dave and I must have been very fun guests there because after dinner our last night there, we were given a cookbook as a gift signed by everyone on staff. We were so surprised and flattered we couldn’t imagine what we did to earn such a beautiful gift. I only found out during this  conversation with Colin that the staff has the power to make the gift to patrons they deem worthy. Worthy  as in having the 'right spirit’. Colin said, it's a honor bestowed on those they deem ‘one of us’.  Sweet eh?

Funny though that Colin's idea of a runaway is reverse to NYC to the Beacon theater to hear live music. LOL

Could a personal trainer be the difference between life and death? 

Well If you read the recent study results which said being able to stand on one leg for 10 seconds is tied to whether you’ll live another decade - then possibly yes.

Here’s my opinion after exploring one session with kickass superstar HEALTHYFIT personal trainer Cristina Telese. We humans need other humans to push us to accomplish things we can’t seem to on our own. It’s easy to ‘go exercise’ it’s harder to spend that same time really maximizing the effort to get better results out of why the heck we’re there in the first place. Plus now it’s personal. We all have to be able stand on one foot for 10 seconds or drop dead soon.

The results of a study published in The British Journal of Sports Medicine said for people over 50 ‘not being able to stand on one foot for 10 seconds was associated with a higher risk of death from all causes within the next decade’. Now there’s a wake up call to make sure you’re fit and can balance!

It’s been one week since I spent one session with Cristina and I can still feel the effects on some body parts I obviously wasn’t getting to the correct way on my own. Triceps / thighs / core. I was a lifelong workout babe until the last few years and she opened my eyes to some new ways of doing things that I knew nothing about. Made me realize I’m half kidding myself in my approach to exercise these days, and that I could get twice as much done in the same time with a little guidance. So I’ll book Cristina again this week. She’s incredibly energetic, very thoughtful in her approach and great at what she does. Plus she walks the walk and I look up to her. What a strong presence. She’s a super fit 5’11’.
