What’s it like to host a vacation rental ? Hilarious according to Jan Mcinnis. So she wrote a one woman show about it. Its' called SUPERHOSTESS and Jan's performing it out in LA.

But thats not her only gig!

Jan’s always wanted to be a comedian.When she was about 10 years old, she told her parents that once she turned 16, she was going to “buy a motorcycle, ride cross-country to Los Angeles, and become a comedian.”

Her parents didn’t agree with that idea, so she ended up graduating from Virginia Tech and having a marketing career for over a decade before getting on stage.

Today, over 25 years into her comedy and keynote-speaking career, she’s presented her humor keynotes and comedy shows to thousands of groups, and is a top convention comedian whose act is clean.

She’s sold clean comedy material to just about everyone on the planet—from late-night TV shows, to hundreds of radio stations, CEOs, and even guests on The Jerry Springer Show (her parents are proud!).

Her latest podcast? “Comedian Stories: Tales from the Road in Under 5 Minutes.” Short stories about her 20+ years in comedy – the good and the bad.

Oh, btw, Jan did finally make it cross-country to Los Angeles, where she currently resides, AND she just bought a motorcycle!

Police Officer Ami Postiglione Has To Stay Healthy & Fit and she has a special place in her heart for the women’s gym HealthyFit in Mamaroneck NY.

This Harrison, N.Y. police officer joins me on this Wellness Wednesday show today for a @healthyfitny member spotlight. 

I would imagine her job ias a police officer is stressful these days and that she needs to be extra fit for it.

When I asked how Ami how she would describe her occupation, she said, “well it’s not ordinary”! In spite of the challenges in the world Ami  loves her job and feels lucky working for such a great community.

Being strong and fit is critical to her daily work as a law enforcment officer and throw in being an Italian who likes to eat  she said, ( Me too Ami!) and that makes it all the more important for her to keep working out. She shares some good running tips for the treadmill and gives a high five to doing boxing workouts.

"Showing up’ and 'doing the time' in a welcoming womens gym has motivated Ami to keep increasing her strength and mental well-being.

Ami also credits the encouragement of the trainers and other women at  Healthy Fit for keeping her motivated throughout her ups and downs.

I myself am a huge fan of women’s gyms for all the reasons above and more ( like showing up in last nights makeup and not caring) I’m really annoyed at myself that I just missed 2 weeks due to ‘circumstances’. I was just starting to feel great and more flexible  again after a couple of months of going and today I decided I cannot let outside ‘circumstances’ get in my personal way. I feel it physically very fast when I’m not exercising enough. Plus my mood’s better when I work out and exercise. Finding this fabulous women's gym after the pandemic was critical to my sanity.

I turned myself in to Officer Ami in this conversation for being MIA. Lol She motivated me to 'get back in there'.! Dont we all need a little encouragement?

Did you know nearly half of all women aged 40+ who have mammograms are told they have dense breasts? What's a gal supposed to do with that information?  Pay more attention to her breast health for one.

Many women have no clue that having dense breasts can increase their risk of breast cancer.

Dense breasts can also make cancer more difficult to detect on a mammogram, leading to missed or underdiagnosed cancers, which can contribute to breast cancer mortality. 

Bayer Radiology released new survey results that uncovered gaps in knowledge among women with dense breasts, pointing to a greater need for education on this important women’s health topic.

Sculptor Vinnie Bagwell Is A Winner and a BIG deal.

The City of Niagara Falls just chose to commission her vision of Harriet Tubman, to be installed in front of the Underground Railroad Museum in Niagara Falls, NY. Public artworks of Harriet Tubman traditionally portray her as an old woman, but she was only 29 when she escaped from slavery and returned to Maryland as an Underground Railroad “conductor" and Vinnie chose to portray her young. Below is a photo of the small version of  “Harriet Tubman on the Road to Freedom!” but Vinnie can't wait to make her BIG! Because BIG is what Vinnie does.

Vinnie Bagwell has one of those amazing talents that make your jaw drop. Can you believe she's an untutored artist?  She's a Who's Who in America 2022-inductee for sculpting. 

Vinnie started sculpting in 1993, and was commissioned to create her first public artwork in 1995. Her portraits display immense spirit and verisimilitude, and have souls which speak to their viewers.

This Spring Vinnie will permanently install “The Enslaved Africans’ Rain Garden”–an urban-heritage public-art project to commemorate the legacy of the first enslaved Africans to be manumitted by law in the United States, 64 years before the Emancipation Proclamation in Yonkers, NY. 

She's also rehabilitating the second-largest African burial ground in New York: The Sacred Place of Her Ancestors. The National Endowment for the Arts is the first major funder for this still developing project.

I asked Vinnie to join me because I wanted to know more about how she does that big stuff she does and thought you might too. Enjoy our podcast conversation. 

Former Rock N Roll Publicist Carol Klenfner ( Rolling Stones, Elton John, The Who, and more) is a table tennis champion now rocking the table tennis circuit. She's got stories up the wazoo about all 50+ great rock n roll acts she traveled with and repped back when, but her own latest act is a pretty darn good story too.   Carol was a gritty NY gal who worked her way up through the Rock N Roll PR world and worked as a top executive for 4 decades at a prestigious firm in NYC. She married, had two daughters, and a solid career. But in 2009, when she was 64, her life started to fall apart. Right after recuperating from back surgery, Carol lost her husband. Then the recession hit and she was shockingly laid off from her job. At her age, she knew finding a comparable position would be difficult if not impossible. She had to move to find a more affordable place to live and admits it was a horrible time of grief and what felt like solitary confinement, while trying to launch her own PR business from her dining room table. She was struggling and knew she had to get out of the house and do something for her sanity.

"Depression is not my thing, but I did feel terribly lonely and isolated. It was like solitary confinement. I wasn’t sure what was ahead for me, but I knew I needed to get out of the house."

Carol happened to catch a documentary on PBS that profiled seniors in a table tennis tournament, and it sparked old memories of having fun playing ping pong as a kid.

She grabbed her friend Stephanie Palewski-Brumbach, who she grew up with and they went to check out Spin, the ping pong club and restaurant owned by Susan Sarandon.  They liked it, thought they were good enough to try out for the women’s league and thrilled they were accepted.

Carol who got tired of losing, hired a coach and worked her way up into league play and went on to compete and rock the national tournaments! 

Del Moon Dir. of Communications & Media for The National Senior Games did a feature story on Carol. "She wonders if table tennis saved her life in a way, and she feels like a rock star among her age peers who marvel at her renewed passion for life and dedication to pursue a sport."    Carol is a great inspiration for staying in the game! Any game! At any age!

She's passionate others should find their own way to “move a muscle, change a mood.” 

Carol's really bummed she'll miss the National Championship of Table Tennis in Las Vegas and The National Senior Games this year because she hurt her hand, but she's learning how to play the game with her other hand. 

Luckily she wasnt too bummed to come have some fun talking with me.  Carol found her Personal Best, and hopes she is an inspiration for others to pursue theirs.
