Leaf It To Mother Nature To Use Chlorophyl Like Hair Dye ! Did you know that without the presence of chlorophyll in the leaf, the bright golds, reds, yellows, and browns would be the natural colors seen year round? Today I review the science of It all, as explained in this great piece from SmokyMountains.com. I'm doing this as a public service for all who have forgotten their 5th grade science. Trees just try to cope with winters like the rest of us. • Marcia Scanlon, Entrepreneur and Super Connector

Are You A Connector? A SuperConnector? I am a both. It's something I do all the time but never actually talk about. I remember the day I discovered I had this gift. I could never quite put my finger on how to describe myself. I was reading Malcolm Gladwell's, "The Tipping Point: How Little Things Can Make a Big Difference" and read this description : " - "Connectors are the people in a community who know large numbers of people and who are in the habit of making introductions. A connector is essentially the social equivalent of a computer network hub. They usually know people across an array of social, cultural, professional, and economic circles, and make a habit of introducing people who work or live in different circles. They are people who "link us up with the world...people with a special gift for bringing the world together". They are "a handful of people with a truly extraordinary knack for making friends and acquaintances". Gladwell characterized these individuals 'back then' when the book came out in 2000, as having social networks of over one hundred people. Along the way I read another book by Keith Ferrazzi. "Never Eat Alone". In it he describes the ‘Super Connector’. Super Connectors are people who maintain contact with thousands of people in many different worlds and know them well enough to give them a call."

Today on this show I'm featuring a gal pal who's gift as a Super Connector helped close a very unique deal. But first maybe YOU might want to know how to become one and upgrade your career? Shout out to Medium.comand Zak Slayback for this insightful piece on the subject.

  • Wellness Wednesday! The Effects of Lonliness & Lisa Salvatore, Intuitive Reader and Energy Healer

You're Only As Sick As Your Secrets . "Loneliness cuts life expectancy by about the same amount as smoking 15 cigarettes a day and more than obesity. It is also associated with a greater risk of heart disease, depression, anxiety and dementia." This story got louder in my head as I read author Jayne O'Donnell's words. Important Wellness Wednesday topic. "None of us really knows what anyone else is going through unless we take the time to ask — and actually wait for an answer. " She went on to say, "We’re more connected — online — than ever. But, often, we forget the true meaning and importance of connection. It's no accident that we're also more stressed, sick, depressed and addicted — often since data have been collected. Opioids are getting the attention, but far more Americans are dying of alcohol-related illness. USA TODAY printed the piece below "As A Loneliness Epidemic rages, you're only as sick as your secrets " worth your time to read.

So how do we turn this around?

USA TODAY just launched an " I Survived It Facebook group". @MabintyQuarshiw and Jayne O'Donnell co-moderate
the group intended to give readers and others a new outlet for their anguish and a source for solutions. They've brought together leading experts — professional, personal or both — on mental health, addiction, social isolation, domestic violence, suicide, child loss and other life challenges. They aim to create a greater sense (and the reality) of community, both online and off. Great Start! Good Luck Gals!

As a Loneliness Epidemic Rages, I've Learned You're Only as Sick as Your Secrets

I've noticed a trend. There are many unspoken troubles and concerns behind all the pretty Facebook photos and we all seek answers to 'questions' and concerns . Many who seek guidance for their concerns and troubles are seeking the wisdom and guidance of those outside the medical community who would not be considered 'mainstream'. Because I know a lot of people as a result of what I do here on my talk show everyday, I personally know many who call themselves "intuitives", "energy healers', 'readers',' mediums' etc. Many have confided in me they often struggle personally with some of the concerns and issues clients come to them that are 'serious'. Serious as in a medical or emotional issue that professionals would be more qualified to help with. Lisa Salvatore who is an intuitive reader/ energy healer has generously agreed to join me on the show today to be candid about her escalating challenges in this area and how it is affecting her. BTW Lisa is a huge advocate for traditional therapy and explains how she helps her clients and what she hears that she sometimes finds 'difficult'.

  • Lesley Jane Seymour of CoveyClub, 9/11 Tribute & Evactuation Tips

I doubt anyone will ever forget where they were the morning of September 11, 2001 when they heard of the attacks on the twin World Trade Towers in NYC and the Pentagon in Washington. 17 Years out from that horrible and tragic day etched in our memories forever, we feel the pain. We mourn with heavy hearts those lost and we share tears for the heartbreak of witnessing the deadliest foreign attack ever on U.S. soil. Incredibly, deaths from 9/11 diseases will soon outnumber the lives lost on that fateful day. Today I share with you an amazing rendition of of God Bless America sung by a local NY area Super Talent Jackie DiMaggio Quaranti as her little 3 year old son Michael listens with his hand over his heart. May God Bless America and may we all take a moment to come together as one and put our hands over our hearts today in hope for our future.

Please listen and please spend a few minutes reflecting upon this event, and praying for the victims who died, and their families and friends.

Like-minded women over 50 from all over the United States will head to the woods in Woodstock, NY for the 7th year in row this year thanks to Founder Ann Voorhees Baker. Why? To find the group of friends they've always longed for; smart, supportive, open-minded, kind, reaching for all that life has to offer, determined to pursue their dreams. It all started over a decade ago when Ann was turning the big five-oh, and was in the midst of a divorce after 23 years of marriage. She was stressed out for years and socially she was in lay-low mode for a long time. She decided to throw a birthday party for herself 'her' style. She rented a cabin in the woods and invited a dozen girlfriends and asked them to bring food & wine, CDs, videos, candles, and walking shoes. She just wanted to hang out, listen to music, talk, take walks, cook, chill in the hot tub. Get up for the sunrise. Sit on the porch at sunset with a glass of wine. 15 women went from places ranging from Shaker Heights, Ohio to New York City said OK fine we will try this. And the rest is history. Besides the annual weekend gathering, there will also be a week long writers workshop. • Deirdre Hade, 3 Breath Meditation & Laura Fahrenthold, “The Pink Steering Wheel Chronicles: A Love Story”

Even I can find time for a 3 breath daily meditation - I think? Never could figure out meditation for myself (who could sit still that long?) but with anxiety rising in the world I'm dedicating some time to finding ways to calm everybody down. Deirdre Hade's name caught my attention when I saw she was partnering with a favorite of mine, Jack Canfield, the co-creator of the Chicken Soup for the Soul series. The purpose of Deidre's guided meditation is to help us clear away old patterns and obstacles. (Shame we can't just use a Mr. Clean stain eraser for gunky outdated thoughts clogging our heads). Deidre and Jack Canfield are releasing 'The Radiance Tree of Life Journey Meditation' this Fall. A guided journey into ancient healing pathways that cleanses the body, mind and spirit of toxic thoughts and emotions. (Sounds promising) Besides Jack Canfield, Deidre's celebrity clientele also includes world renowned fashion icon and humanitarian Donna Karan. Pick up a NYPost today and read about widow Laura Fahrenthold. Her love story is really worth your time. Her husband, Mark Pittman, 51 at the time, sadly passed away some years ago of a massive heart attack. Laura a Westchester, NY mom of two girls, who is now 54, struggled to cope as you would imagine. Then there were his ashes. What she and her kids did over the years since his passing with his ashes to heal themselves became her memoir and a book called “The Pink Steering Wheel Chronicles: A Love Story”. It's the story of an extraordinary 31,000-mile adventure she and her daughters took in an RV to sprinkle her husbands ashes in places they felt fitting.
Laura Fahrenthold joins the show today at 10:40am eastern LIVE on 1490 WGCH and WGCH.com anywhere from any device. Podcasts get posted later on DebbieNigro.com.

(Laura thankfully was blessed with a good sense of humor which you know I feel is everyones best accessory especially during trying times. She named her husbands ashes "Mark-in-a-Box" and prior to the end of this story took him everywhere with her to keep him close. Beautiful.)

  • Shark Expert, Dr. Gregory Skomal

MY SHARK GUY Dr. Gregory Skomal is THE SHARK GUY who had this SHARK-ING Experience this week! OMG> Thank Goodness he's OK and joining me this morning at 10:20am. LOVE this guy! What happened was...A breaching white shark off Cape Cod surprised the heck out of him and a he's a veteran shark researcher! Today Gregory will share his wild close encounter with the great white shark in this video that took place last week off Wellfleet. This video was shared by The Atlantic White Shark Conservancy.

Despite the enormous scientific and public interest in white sharks, large gaps in our understanding of this species remain. Cape Cod has become an aggregation site for great white sharks, presenting a rare and incredible research opportunity. “For the first time, modern scientists have predictable access to white sharks in the North Atlantic and the ability to study their life history and ecology over multiple spatial and temporal scales,” explains leading shark expert, Dr. Greg Skomal of the Massachusetts Division of Marine Fisheries (DMF).

White sharks have been studied in California and other areas of the world for over two decades. However, on the east coast of the United States there is very little known about this species. In 2009, DMF biologists, Dr. Greg Skomal and John Chisholm were the first to successfully tag and track great whites in the Northwest Atlantic Ocean using high tech tags. We now have the ability to track local and long range movements, study behavior and biology, and estimate population size.

  • Anxiety: Best Selling Books & Dr. Nadim Shaath's "Healing Civilizations"

Sorry to Make You Anxious But Anxiety Is Trending In The Book Business. (So Is the search for Happiness). Store shelves can tell you a lot about human behavior. ABC News reported books sales in the 'anxiety' category rose 26 percent over the past year at Barnes & Noble. In addition, sales for books in the "Finding Happiness" category rose 83 percent over that same span.

"The increase [in sales] speaks to the fact that people are more focused on their emotions and emotional help," he said. "For a long time we kind of looked at mental health and psychiatric issues on one hand and physical health on the other hand." "Now people see that the brain is another organ in the body that sometimes may develop issues that need treatment, just like any other organ in the body may need some treatment."

Books About Anxiety, Finding Happiness Are Trending. Here Are Some Best Sellers.

There's A Lot We Can We Learn From The Past That Might Help Us With This Anxiety Problem And More! I asked Dr. Nadim Shaath to join me today. He is a world renowned expert in Essential Oils who spent 25 years compiling his amazing tabletop book (and one of my favorite possessions) called "Healing Civilizations: The Search For Therapeutic Essential Oils and Nutrients". The book just won two HUGE awards A Bronze medal in both the 2018 PubWest Book Design Contest and 2017 Foreward Indie Award for the Body, Mind & Spirit category. I learned from reading it you can nix anxiety with the aroma of NEROLI OIL which calms the anxiety center of your brain.

Healing Civilizations is the culmination of Dr. Shaath’s personal journey around the world over the past twenty-five years, seeking out and rediscovering essential oils and therapeutic ingredients used since antiquity. In his travels with award-winning photojournalist Thomas Hartwell, he scoured the world for the secrets of the past, searching for time-tested natural remedies that were recorded in early pharmacopeias, etched on temple walls, or handed down orally. Meeting with farmers, scientists, industrialists, healers, and historians, they uncovered ancient treasures of natural healing practices and ingredients. Dr. Shaath chronicled their discoveries across time and geography, analyzing dozens of ingredients and techniques using modern instrumentation and cataloging the data in usable and practical form.

A reference manual for practitioners in the fields of aromatherapy, essential oils and perfumery, Healing Civilizations is a guide for those interested in natural healing and reversing the trends caused by the environmental damage done to our planet and our overreliance on synthetic ingredients, products and pharmaceutical drugs.
