  • #9 Femicide in SA: Part 1 - The Second Pandemic

“As a country, we find ourselves in the midst of not one, but two, devastating pandemics" These were the words of President Cyril Ramaphosa addressing the country on the increase in Gender Based Violence cases since the easing of lockdown regulations. The President informed the nation that over the past few weeks, no fewer than 21 women and children have been murdered at the hands of men. Gender Based Violence is a long standing issue in SA, and once every few months the country finds itself at a standstill confronted with its presence. In the episode, Nena, Bands and Tshepo have a discussion on why GBV continues to be a problem in our society, how the construction of masculinity plays a role, and brainstorm ways in which we can combat this "second pandemic".

  • #7 #BlackLivesMatter #SaveBlackLives

In this episode, the hosts debrief about #BlackLivesMatter. To help give a better perspective, they are joined by Danielle Watkins who is from Chicago, Illinois. As an African American woman, Dani is very passionate about race relations and gives valuable insight through her lived experience.
Ignited by the death of George Floyd at the hands of the police, the #BlackLivesMatter fire is hotter than ever before. The rest of the world has bared witness to nationwide protests and demonstrations led by African Americans voicing their anger for a system that has perpetuated racism and injustice in their country - a system that has continued to oppress black and brown people for generations.
